Two of the worst trains i have ever had the misfortune to travel upon especially the return.
Disgusting toilet facilities that would have embarrassed a pig sty and transport police that looked like they were going to burst out crying especially when some of the poor souls aboard this mobile s**t hole dared to complain about the cattle truck conditions.
Add to the fact they were threatening to throw off people for uttering what is known commonly as swear words ( helloooo reality check number 1- young lads and lassies at football especially with booze on board might just might let slip the odd expletive FFS?? they most certainly need to get out more) added to the general bad atmosphere on the train.
Treat people like animals and don’t complain when they start behaving as such was the mantra here and its an absolute credit to the vast majority for their patience and their ability not to behave as such.

To be honest bar the Gilbey transfer we seem to have weathered the storm the window can create.
Id expect more interest in january for some of our better players especially given the ridiculous prices for championship and PL players akthough it depends on how they are doing at that point.
I like Gilbey but saw unfortunately due to his injury saw precious little of him really and he never struck me as a bench warmer .i agree he was a Powell mark 2 but really pleased we have kept our spine Burn,Morsy,Grigg and Powell.
Cooky must have done a brilliant job with his man management behind the scenes to regenerate a relegated team.
The major test will be in january especially if we are doing well and the fact that some teams will start to get desperate and may pay the higher fees.
That said i am just glad that Cooky has steadied the ship and given us something to hope for and look forward to the rest of the season in what is a lovely division to watch football in.
        Onwards and upwards!!

They used to in my view have the local rags in their pockets prior to games like this in the eighties and nineties.
Hardly a day went by without some toothless ugly mug glaring out of a local newspaper column back then and they would open an envelope if it meant a photograph in the local or national papers.
The papers without a doubt held sway back then and add in the annual trip to Wembley which gave the competitors national publicity it goes without saying that they milked it for all it was worth.
Media coverage of ticket sales queues (hmmm) and warnings of sell outs etc made tickets shift as fast as warm muffin man pies.filming of the send off etc and endless newspaper features meant it was easy to shift 20000 plus each year.
They never missed a trick to promote Wigan as a rugby town where every soul was obsessed with the game and who can forget their annual homecoming went at Central Park where they threw open the gates to welcome everybody for a staged party .
Brilliant salesmanship is what it was but latics started to stir in 1997 And things changed forever.
We will never see those times again as we achieved success beyond anything they could dream about and we drew worldwide prominence , the rugby town myth was destroyed once we hit the big time .
Wasn’t surprised to see the poor turnout but fair play to the loyal ones who went and carried on going once their 90s party was over.

Really good performance and lovely to see them trounce a fairly decent side By four goals ,brilliant start to the season.
Liked the shape of the team and getting the transfer business done early on has helped cooky get the bonded into a solid unit with even Powell playing his heart out and he was easily the man of the match for me today.

At least it means two cracking grudge games with them next season and when you had the B factor (Bradford,Blackpool and Blackburn) then i am starting to look forward to next season already.
At least we wont have the bore fest that is the championship and the new appointment seems like the club has changed tack on this one.
They are not going to be too chuffed but at least it shows some ambition on our part however i am expecting a harder season than the last one and i would take a play off place this time around if i’m honest and some stability as well as more focus on the youth policy.
I just want to see some good football and players at the club who want to be there as well as a few wins.
Pompey are a decent club though and i have read some of the vitriolic comments but seen some that wish him well and also say they hope we are 1 and 2 next year.

A very good appointment which shows ambition and listening to Paul cook today during his opening interview reminded me very much of a certain Paul Jewell when he came back to the club in 2001
They have also given him a 3 year contract but please young David let him have the time to do the job because to be now on the seventh manager in under 4 years is frankly ridiculous especially when we only had 4 in the previous 12 !
I’m also pleased he is an ex player as there have been no failures with any ex players in the management role and I get a good vibe with this one as we have to get it right some time.
Best line in that interview was from the interviewer himself
“Welcome back Paul ,what are your first impressions of the place ?”

I cant see him getting the job as first team manager as the bookies have Steve Mcclaren nailed on for that now.
He does however deserve a position in the club given his undoubted long term loyalty to Latic’s especially given his rather abrupt sacking in October 1995 that wasn’t widely welcomed at the time believe me.
He was also a player of some note and a real hardman footballer who allegedly once offered out Larry Lloyd on woodhouse stadium after a bust up in training.
He wouldn’t be my choice as first team manager in any way shape or form but to use him as a scapegoat for the clubs ills is plainly ridiculous.
Give him a job with the kids or just let him help out with training but FFS some of our fans haven’t half developed a snooty attitude that is usually found in the premier league.
We ARE an effing third division club now and and we have to deal with that and surely somebody who was a bloody good player as well as manager at that level is worth having around the place!!

The slating of barrow always leaves me with a bad taste given his stature as a player here in the eighties and his heroic stint in the dark days of 1994-95 season.
The people who give him a hard time obviously we’re not watching the team back then but he took over with the club bottom of the football league and in serious threat of relegation.
He steadied the ship and turned things around and it makes you wonder did whelan buy the club on the back of the turnaround he brought to the club.
The fact that he is held in very high regard by people at the club maybe is because in some respects he was the man who started the glorious years that followed.
I remember his first press conference in November 94 when he just told the press that he didn’t have time for a pre amble with the players he just started training because the position the club was in was so serious.
Old school and in his late middle age doesn’t hide the fact that he has been a credible servant to the club and deserves a role within it.

They said they would have to wait for the play offs to finish I’m sure.
A massive candidate for me would be te bloke at Blackpool ( bowyer )who has done a miracle job with absolutely nothing.
If he fails to get them promoted then maybe he is in line for the job.
He hasn’t been mentioned but the job he has done over there is amazing and I cannot believe he isn’t in the frame
Stubbs was allegedly seen at the Barnsley game and I cannot get rid of the nagging gut feeling it is him.x

A good coach and would surely do well for Latics as we have been crying out for a good coach since Roberto left.
He may also have some grab in the transfer market and I don’t think we have anything to lose appointing mclaren.

Once had a long chat with Kevin Nichols in the local barber shop during his time at Latics.
Didn’t hold back on his thoughts and seemed a pretty decent lad although was a dirty swine on the pitch if I remember right .
Have also played football against Andy ainscow and skinned him ( the highlight of my life ) another decent bloke who did really well in his short spell at Latics in the eighties.

Price freeze and appoint a decent manager with a proper back room team.
That should subsidise the tickets if you could call it subsidising after the garbage we have watched this season! Not sure I will renew if the same policy is followed oth the management

The decisions that the hierarchy make in the next few weeks will dictate that
Massive cross roads is where we are at now and going forward we have no more room for any further mistakes.
Big clubs league 1 wise tend to do ok unless they are in massive bother off the pitch so if we get these issues sorted we will be up near the top in my opinion.
