Fortunate arguably but I feel we just about deserved that win tonight despite a spirited show from a team well below us in class.
I thought we looked a bit jaded but the work rate is superb and nobody (including arsenal) will fancy playing us between now and the end of the season.
Plays off here we comeLast 10 years
Leeds away October 2004. 4500Ever
Everton away FA cup January 1980 -25,000Ditch “let’s hang on” and ditch that “do I love you” and I also think the monkies tune has become boring now like it did when that bloke started to sing YAMS on the pitch a few years back.the music after a goal was awful and I think fired up opposition teams and away fans alike – glad when they ditched that.
Why don’t they have a club song that is played before the game like they have at derby and leeds to name two- love the derby pride song “steve bloomers watching”
When we played at maribor they had a fantastic club song that shook the stadium before kick off and really got the crowd going so I feel they should get somebody to sort this out.
Club theme song campaign??Yes and yes
Automatic would need us to win about 11 games from the final 14FA cup champions sounds right and the chant is brilliant also when some foolish chant starts about empty seats from away fans ( like any team sells out in the championship!)
On that point though funny how the media never mentions the scores of empty seats seen at the likes of Stoke and Southampton isn’t it?Euros are a joke and this group is about as inspiring as a night out in Bolton !
Was far better when it was limited to eight teams – two groups then straight to the semis then the final.
Most of the games will be mismatches and the tournament full of meaningless games for the first two weeks until they have cleared out the minnows.
International football ceased to have any value years ago in my opinion and it doesn’t mean as much to play for your country as it did before money spoiled the game and even hype can’t make it interesting anymore.
Put the top seeds straight in and let the minnows fight for the rest of the places might make it interesting and give teams like Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland a bigger chance of qualifying and at least make the qualifiers more interesting. You know what im really enjoying it in this league winning regularly. Not since PJ,s tenure do we now expect to win games. In the Prem you hope to win but don’t and become miserable. Uwe has brought the feel good factor back and you can bet that the teams who still have to play us will be more than apprehensive. Im not even sure I will be too upset if we don’t make it. Winning in the Championship is a much better feeling than losing in the Prem. Just off for my tin hat.In Uwe we trust ;)
Great post and my sentiments exactly but I think fate will take a hand and I have a feeling that we are going back up whether we like it or not.
just a very strong feeling I have had since he took charge and I can see us getting better and better – the Latics are on the march!Starting to look like the team we thought they could be last august and even more satisfying to beat the media darlings in waiting that are Brighton.
The lack of media focus means uwe and his team can quietly come up on the rails and get into the play offs if the current form continues.
Big test next Saturday however forest have injuries and are having a wobble so I reckon we will get another result there -March is a massive month for us !Can’t recall his hair colour but it was after the 3rd flare was let off so assume it must have been related to that. All i do know is that there was some bloke behind me who lost it, screaming and swearing, kicking the chair, busting a blood vessel all in the direction of the stewards. All very adult like behaviour!
What I can’t understand, if he was so upset, why didn’t he just go down and join in? I’d say he was a coward and bully but he was bigger than me so I won’t say that.
Not a very edifing image from a grown man (late 20’s early 30’s).
get a bloody life.
I agree but not as bad as that bald grandad type trying to get at the Sheffield United supporters from the forest end on Sunday he looked at least 60???
I agree we did seem to switch off a bit and a better team would have got back into the game given the second half performance however would we have played with such laxity against a better team ? I think not.
let’s not forget that watsons injury may have affected one or two of them and it will be a big loss without him going into the tough games coming up so let’s hope it’s not too serious.
On a more positive note we never needed to up the gears this evening and the big battles are coming up but what an impressive points tally since uwe took over 24 points from 12 games is promotion form – the plays offs seem a much more realistic than they have done all season tonight!Clive Allen BBC Radio 5 live“As FA Cup holders, Wigan are certainly showing plenty of resilience in the defence of the trophy. Wigan manager Uwe Rosler got it right tactically and his players have put the work in. A fantastic performance from the holders.”
Rosler ihas quietly got the team going and it would seem we are now seeing the results of his work- 6th round of the cup and handily placed in the championship.
this incredible season is starting to get very exciting now!
Not too bothered whether the media talks about the club or not and I’m sure our manager isn’t but we could easily be on our way to wembley if the draw is kind.
Let’s hope for a home draw tomorrow but i suspect uwe is now focusing on beating Barnsley on Tuesday night- great time to be a Latics supporter! My dad used to say he was the best he had ever seen and many others lucky enough to have seen him play have said the same .
The late Bill Shankly used to present a show on one of the merseyside radio stations in the 70s and the producer would quietly tell guests not to mention Finney as Bill would not stop talking about his ‘idol such was his awe of him.
incredible that he only received £14 a week for his unbelievable skills and had to do plumbing to top up his income- incredible and a travesty when you consider some of the absolute wasters who play the game today!
rest in peacelong overdue for Blunderland to be relegated – the cup runs will see them off
Think the tv companies started with the letter q and got stuck there like the jet stream !
Since the birth of the champions league we have seen teams look with disdain at this competion that used to have some kudos 30 odd years back but the champions league has ruined European football in my opinion.
Three competions with more or less equal prestige and a straightforward knockout over two legs gave the games more meaning than the ridiculous TV mini league s we see in the competions now.
It isn’t going to happen in the champions league but maybe they could reshape the UEFA cup and seed it so smaller clubs get a guarantee of a big tie in the early rounds.
I used to the like the old format with the old cup winners cup and it’s a shame football is being ruined for the supporters to preserve the wealth of so few .
Pardew needs to remember that but he has fans who are dense enough to keep chucking the money at a lost cause and his attitude stinks given the home support they get and the money they generate.
How long before the gates start to fall when you hear attitudes like this from supposed big clubs? -
