They have only been narrow defeats and to be honest we could easily be sat on a few more points if luck had ran our way. The home form has been superb…
But luck has run our way at home. Without it, we could easily have had several points fewer. The results may have been good, but the form has been indifferent.
Wigan 2 Doncaster 2 – Maloney free kick and last minute equalizer by Barnett
Wigan 2 Middlesbrough 2 – late equalizer from Gomez free kick
Wigan 2 Ipswich 0 – Carson Man of the Match; last minute goal by Powell to make game safe;
Wigan 2 Blackburn 1 – last minute winner by Boyce; Blackburn played with 10 men for an hourAnd none of these opponents are high fliers.
Most of the above and Forest who were top of the league when we played them are fairly established Championship clubs and I don’t remember too many comfortable home or away wins the last time we played in this division.
if similar results had occurred away we would be sitting near the top of the league but I’m realistic and with the crop of players that have been brought in -the play offs is a realistic target this season.I agree time is the essence and lets see where we are in January and make our judgements then about our new manager and team.
I think that 4-0 drubbing of Barnsley on the opening day lifted expectations to ridiculous levels that were never going to be acheived given the away games at some very tough high flying teams even Bournemouth have done better than expected!
They have only been narrow defeats and to be honest we could easily be sat on a few more points if luck had ran our way.
.The home form has been superb 11 points from a possible 15 and if we kept up the present ratio we will be around the play off positions come the end of the season.Very few teams will fancy coming here and how long is it since we could say that?
My prediction is the play offs even without any additions in January but to be honest I’m not bothered I’m just enjoying it all and not taking it too seriously.let’s just enjoy the European campaign and the season as a whole rather than moaning about the unlucky away results.
Still think we can make the play offsMaybe the club could approach the Maribor club and try to get some more tickets to meet the demand as I bet the game won’t be a sellout.Id email the chief executive and ask him to approach the club to see if there is any more tickets because it seems a shame people will miss out.
far better than travelling to that dreadful crackhead ridden dump about 10 miles east !
So bad they built their new stadium nearer to Wigan town centre than their owns
I took the little lad to the illuminations on Thursday. You should spend as little time as possible in the shitehole if you’ve any sense. Horrific place.
disagree Tez ,the place has its issues like any seaside town in the uk But they have done up the seafront and the pubs always seem to be smart on the inside regardless of their exterior .The town has always been a bit seedy and grotty especially when the primary reason people go there is to get leathered and laid it isn’t going to be anything other is it?
I had a fantastic day the last time Latics played at Bloomfield rd (incidentally a ground we generally do well at)and saw a thumping away win that kick started a superb fight against the drop.
it’s what you make it and what a place to record our overdue away win which I’m sure we will get.I haven’t been impressed with him either but at least he’s an out and out striker which Powell obviously isn’t despite his 2 goals on Thursday. If Holt does play then I’d play McMananman and Jean Beau as the 2 wide players, Powell behind with McArthur and Watson holding.
Back 4 Perch at left back then 3 from Boyce, Barnett, Rogne and Shotton.
tion
Carson in goal obviously.BELIEVE !!!!!!!! :cheer:
I think we will win today as the pressure to gain promotion (unlike at the never never club QPR )isn’t there and isn’t being applied by the management.
They have had a good run but our back line should be able to cope with Rhodes and I think we will trouble them with or without Holt.
Good to have these games backAm I right in thinking this could be one of the most profitable seasons due to the lower wage bill ,player sales, extra games and parachute money?
My estimates
McCarthy 13 million
Kone 6 millionEurope 3 million
Parachute payments 20 million
Not bad Income that for a mid table championship club!
They had a do early doors at trying to smash Berkely Square with bottles and planks.
Not sure where they got there baseball bats from for the attack around Sams/Pear Tree, somebody mention our local Poles might have been involved.
Thing is with these foreign lads, they like to go in armed, faces covered, attack anyone and anything and rarely encounter any fightback, as the people they are attacking aren’t like that. Hopefully what bigroy says is true and some of them got filled in. There certainly wasn’t anyone in their away support in the ground that looked capable of causing trouble anyroad. As for the away match, it’s the lads that are there staying over in smaller numbers which will have to watch out for these type of attacks. When theres a thousand Wiganers on the day all together there’ll be nowt.
they brought fifty or so harmless looking fans so it was surprising to hear loads of sirens on a par with New York city before the game and to hear they caused so much trouble!
I suppose it highlights just how well behaved our supporters are both home and abroad and we should all be very proud of that!Team starting to gel and unbeaten at home so far!
Carson and Jean the standouts tonight and it looks like we may have found a striker in young Powell so it all seems very positive before we play Rawverrrs on Sunday. After what I saw last night I would say his Everton team has a chance of the Premier league title ( no joke-serious!!!!) because Everton were absolutelyoutstanding last night and would have beaten anyone .
Really, and do you include the second half in your “absolutely outstanding” comment when they lost it 2-0 and the Toon also hit the woodwork and missed two sitters.??
I remember us being absolutely outstanding under Bobby for 45, 60, 70 mins and coming off the pitch after 90 mins with no points.
Lets see how the season progresses for him and the club he has always dreamed of managing. B)
If some of his players hadn’t been such a greedy bar stewards they could have been out of sight before they pulled those goals back.
Face he has taken them up a level since Moyes left and done some very good business in the transfer market .
I agree let’s see how he progresses but if nobody can take the ball off his team and they carry on like this then who knows what they could achieve.
January will a tough month for them with plenty of interest in Barkley,Baines and Coleman no doubt. After what I saw last night I would say his Everton team has a chance of the Premier league title ( no joke-serious!!!!) because Everton were absolutelyoutstanding last night and would have beaten anyone .
the myth was dispelled years ago – I once sat in a New York hostelry and had analysis from a local about what was wrong with our team and players!!America is about as far removed from football as you can get so when you have become a topic stateside you know you have hit the big time exposure wise.
our crowds are bigger too when you compare the warriors playing a major semi final last night and a crowd of 14,600 turned up and I reckon Leeds brought at least 4000 !
BTW if your middle aged ,toothless and fat don’t try and get down with the Brigantes kids and do that daft song they sing when they are winning – saw two of them last night and it wasn’t a good look.
another thing how come when you see newspaper shots of Wigan RL fans you never seem to know any?
IShould be a football banning order but rather worrying because this new lot seem so unruly and will get filled in at the rougher grounds if they behave like this.
It’s up to the uostanding supporters to kick their scrawny arses when they start throwing flares and gobbing off outside grounds putting other peoples safety at risk etc -dangerous and out of order !a friend of mine said there was a little ‘mob’ of about 40 little teenagers trying to get it on after the game.
Cries of ” are we havin it ” then a cry of ” their here ” they started to run off from absolutely nothing because there was nobody there.
where have these embarrassments sprung from? -
