Great end of the season but also good to see captain Gary Caldwell looking embarrassed and subdued and saying they need to do better.
Lets be honest i just think reality kicked in like any human being would do if their livlihood is threatened.A million pound mortgage is much harder to pay on championship money!
The expectation levels have increased now as well as the profile of the club but it seems wrong that relegation safety is now seen as a celebratory thing rather than just relief and reflection?I certainly wont be jumping about on sunday(other than if a goal goes in goodpost ) but looking forward to a much better season next time around and some further good support for our young manager from his boss.
Good to see Caldwell showing that disappointment of the overall season in that interview.part timers :(
Very very proud of this great football club we are now firmly established now surely.
The proudest moment for me this season was being in the pagey pub on park rd deep in the Latics heartlands and witnessing all the national TV coverage after the Manchester utd game.A long long way from the days in the old 4th division.
The EPL is not about money to the supporters of this football club its about the profile the club gets nationally and worldwide.Relegation battles are very exciting but its time to push on now and take the club to the next level-a cup run would be a nice change.
Hopefully the club can kick on and acheive a higher league position next season because who knows what can be acheived now that the corner has been turned.Easy away trip almost in Wigan against a trip to some shoebox in a grotty part of London.
Give me the scrotes of Bolton anytime!
Think they will stay up as i think if City get some goals early on it may fire them up.
Stoke are my tip for relegation next year-bowt time they had a taste of this!Imagine this scenario tonight!
Your a Blackburn Roarverrrrrs player and you have just heard todays results meaning that you now have to obtain maximum points against the form team in the division and the FA cup winners and Champions league finalists and also score a sh/tload of goals to boot.
Your also facing barrel loads of abuse from the now very disgruntled supporters making the task you face almost impossible. You would really get up in the morning with a great feeling wouldnt you?????????
Bear in mind the fact that a very very poor Latics side should have beaten you back in november only for dodgy reffing decisions and a clumsy get of a goalie sticking his head into somebodies boot to get a lucky penalty.
The ball is truly in our court and i quote our former manager Larry Lloyd who said the other week ” the wolves game wont matter”
:cheer:I think we will beat them tomorrow and i have felt that for a few weeks now.The crowd will be the telling factor tomorrow and i expect a sit behind the ball night to catch them on the break-2-0 Latics!
We just tread water but i think we could push on from this and start looking up the table.I hear West brom are sniffing around for our manager although im sure he wouldnt move sideways to a nothing club(mega delusions also-as well as annoying fans!) like them especially when he turned down the much larger Aston Villa last year.
Instead of perenial relegation battle i think with some savvy transfer deals especially for a striker the club could push into the top 10 with ease next season. The wage bill will ease next year with some of the bigearners off the payroll so surely the club can bring one or two in and improve our position.
I wont be holding my breath though! They love tears at Sky dont they?
I think they will be seeing the wrong ones on monday night though goodpostIf Bolton and QPR win tomorrow Roarverrrrrrs are as good as gone and the Ewood massive (who sooooooooo get behind the manager and team dont they?)
will be kicking off from first kick to last which is always great for the home players isnt it?
If Bolton lose we are as good as safe due to the rubbish goal difference they and Roarverrrrrrs have compared to Latics so id expect a more difficult game then but it wont matter unless they stick a shedful past us.
We have done the difficult bit and just need to get over the line which i am certain will happen regardless of monday nights result.
TV has an unerring knack of switching the wrong games (remember Hull a couple of years back?) and im sure they are kicking themselves they didnt cover the QPR or Bolton game instead.Blackburn on account of an complete arrogant @rse i used to have the misfortune to work with many years ago.The sh///thead patronised the life out of Latics( and me) getting in to the top flight and took great delight when we lost.
His attitude was that we were not worthy to mix with ‘greats’ like Blackburn and he was sure our stay in the PL would be short. He was wrong of course and a drink or two will be on hand if we send his team down on monday night knowing it will have ruined his summer.Karma is a wonderful thing!
I also dislike QPR for their complete arrogance and the totally unjustified sacking of Warnock who got them up in the first place.
Again karma! The old ground was landlocked and potentially unsafe around the access/exits in my opinion.Certainly not a safe place to take the kids either with dodgy terraces and toilet facilities not out of place in a farmyard pen.
Great memories from the old ground but we would not be where we are today if they had not shifted over to ‘the gant'(wouldnt this be a great name btw ?)which geve us a much bigger profile and attracted better players during that period.
It is lovely to see pictures of it but the memories i have are of a very tiny club (in what was then a rugby doninated area) as occupiers not the world wide profile that has been created by the move across town.
Onwards and upwards but we musnt forget the past agreed!May be sorted by then!Bolton v Spurs Spurs win
QPR v Stoke Stoke win
Bolton v West Brom West Brom winAnd just for good measure:-
Villa v Spurs Spurs Win
Happy Days!!!
Why the worry over the other results?????????????????
We have two games left against the worst two clubs in the division one doomed-one nearly so!
I agree with the top poster monday is like waiting for christmas because im sure the issue will be sorted before Wolves.
Who wouldnt have taken this scenario after that dreadful Swansea home game?
Cant wait for monday-only five more sleeps :cheer:If city win at Newcastle on sunday i would stick my house, wife, kids, life, internal organs on them beating that QPR side by a sizeable scoreline to win the title.
I would also do the same on the current form Latics side picking up enough points to stay up!I am still shocked at how feeble QPR and Blackburn were on sunday in their respective games against Chelsea and Tottenham.
Cant see either of them getting to 37 points!I have a sneaky feeling QPRS expected home win with non footballers Stoke on sunday wont happen-Stoke looked very up for it last saturday against Arsenal and i bet Pulits chairman has had him in telling him to get up the table fast for more prize money.
That would mean we are already safe going into the Blackburn game barring a mathmatical travesty and the freakiest results ever.
It will be sorted on monday night believe me! -
