Technically (in terms of league placings), Latics were the best team to enter the FLT last season, but did they win it?
.Not the best analogy…. no they didn’t nor did they make any serious attempt to do so…… whereas there aren’t any teams/players at the World Cup who don’t see it as the pinnacle of their careers and are giving their very best.
Alli was carrying an injury from half an hour in to be fair, don’t know why they didn’t hook him there and then, …..but what Sterling’s excuse was for his ‘performance’ …. I’ve no idea.
A tad unfair Donny, certainly played a couple of daft passes but they can’t stop him at set pieces, he’s won everything he’s gone for but I have liked the way he’s left a bruise on em every time he’s challenged them.
Bobby Moore he ain’t though
As outrageous as the behaviour was, I’m afraid it is all too common around Wigan and as a group I doubt RL players are any worse than plumbers or brickies or trainee solicitors.
My daughter saw the video and said although it was awful, she has been seeing similar and indeed much worse around Wigan and King St by lads of various backgrounds for some years now and is the primary reason she largely avoids it these days.
We just had bitter and lager (couldn’t afford ‘shorts) and certainly I never saw any of the gear that’s all over the place now. Also any indiscretions large or small weren’t broadcast over the internet
In no way condoning what went on here, a horrible experience for the barmaids and the middle aged woman who intervened…. but it’s all around us I’m afraid.
I don’t pretend to know for sure but I think the stadium was only £30/35 million and whilst I’m sure DW put in a substantial chunk of that, there were grants from the Sports Council [and higher grants on the basis of dual use) rage council put some in I believe and possibly some Lotto grant ?
I don’t know this in any great detail but I doubt DW shelled out even half of 50 odd million (put more in than me to be fair)
Probably that last minute equaliser (through fat Bert’s legs) at Wembley caused me to go nap more than any Latics goal ever.
Maybe marginally more than in 2013 …..given I was 14 rather than 54I have no idea whether the culprit was positively identified , or if he or she was…..whether there was clear evidence to convict him/her, surely it ought to have been a police matter anyway rather than simply a club issue
In any event I doubt you are remotely interested in this particular case or it’s resolution Mutty, , you are only here to denigrate Wigan Athletic.
I’m delighted that your club have rooted out what (without any doubt) was the only racist amongst your then 40,000 regular supporters.
I doubt Whelans a racist, at least not in any sense where he would actively discriminate against someone, do or wish harm to them based on their colour or ethnicity and
I expect you are smart enough to realise that.
Sadly there will be some people overtly racist in most football crowds, Latics included, with them being broadly representative of society as a whole. Good people , OK folk, tight ones , generous ones …you know a cross sectionI fully expect it’s true of the rugby crowds and of course we know it to be true of Sunderland’s crowds, a small minority of whom amply demonstrated their affection for Darren Bents mother.
Donny, I’m not saying it’s impossible but it is a long shot. With the size and scope of their club, Wolves should have been doing better than they have for some while.
The people putting money in put serious money in for Championship level.
Not to mention the somewhat dodgy advantage the owners had in being big fish in the players agent business? We GOT £3M for the Duke, I think we paid around £1M or a bit less ….that said your overall point remains valid, it was big money then and it’s likely ‘out of our current reach’ money now, unless new investment comes in.
The worry for me is if we don’t get Prem football in two years (and it’s hghly unlikely we will) what will be the position of the Hong Kong group then ? Continue to chase and invest further or will they pull up the drawbridge and cut their losses ?
I don’t think 12,500 was too bad really, we were already up and Wimbledon as opposition wouldn’t have been that appealing to the casual supporter.
We should perhaps focus on the fact that this seasons average will comfortably be the best we have ever managed at this level, surpassing the Paul Jewell promotion in 2003.
In fact our first Championship season (then branded Div 1) only gathered 9,500 average, which we’ll likely surpass next season, so however slowly the fan base has crept up despite a couple
of absolute nightmare seasons and the presence of Warren Joyce’s “football”Bournemouth’s stadium holds less than 12,000 I think and that is too small, Bournemouth isn’t a small place and I guess they could get a good few more in (if Prem status is maintained) and I think
whoever was behind building it regrets not making it 50% bigger now.I think 18 to 20,000 would have been a better scale for the JJB/DW but it’s easier to be wise after the event and to be fair it demonstrated the scale of Dave Whelans ambition at the time.
I think Mowbray is a sad and bitter loser with very little intellect !Not to mention the ugly bastards face is ‘inside out’
She would still have to have one.Stunning a few years ago, based on last night, she’s getten a face as’d make an onion cry
Yes indeed , but John Fogerty has one of those great distinctive voices where you never ‘think it might be him’… you know !
“Out out out, get out o my house
Y’better take your trench coat too
No daughter of mine’s going out wiv a hippy
Or a scruffy little bleeder like youHustler
