Latics deciding to post this in support of making deadline day a Bank Holiday was surely an early April fools joke.

Hopefully it will die a natural death sooner rather than later.
Recent events at the DW have finally explained the real reason behind our lacklustre displays this season. It wasn’t about “sh*te formations”, “sh*te managers”, “sh*te chairman”, “sh*te backroom staff”, or “sh*te players” after all, it was about human nature. It was about a core of players who had no concern about anything other than their next contract. They were not prepared to break sweat for a club which had enabled them to enjoy a privileged lifestyle and to win one of the highest prizes in English football. Instead they chose to go through the motions until the club was forced to get rid of them or until they became free agents.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held their fellow players.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held fans, especially those who travelled many miles to support them.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held their managers, getting two of them sacked in the process.
Shame on them for the contempt in which they held Dave Whelan who has brought us up from obscurity to a club known the world over.
I am not one to bear grudges but I do hope that the remainder of their careers (they know who they are!) go downhill from here on.
I really hope that Malky has got rid of the rotten core now and we can all start to enjoy our football again although I fear it may be too late. We must all be patient and hope that the new team can gell quickly enough to save us from relegation.
Good luck Malky and the New Latics. I am looking forward to the rest of the season with renewed excitement and I have a good feeling about it.
I don’t understand how you can attribute this to “human nature” and then go into a rant about certain players.
What would you have done to motivate those players better?
We weren’t in a position to offer them a new contract with equal or higher wages.
Maybe this could have been possible if we gained promotion and this might be the reason we didn’t actively try to sell these players last summer. When it became apparent we were in a relegation battle and now fighting for promotion we had to get rid of these players.
As much as I wish they would have shown more pride for our club in their final season, it is natural to have one eye on potential new clubs.
On the field our team needed to re-group for the relegation battle with new faces. Conclusion is that it was in everybody’s interest for certain players to leave now which is why the mass exodus happened so quickly.
Looks like Kim is going to sign for us soon and also had offers from elsewhere.
I think it is fair to say that he doesn’t have a particular problem with Mackay.
Lets no forget what he did in the first instance, drink & drive. It will take a high profile sports person celeb , whatever to kill someone before this is taken seriously like that little prick Berahino 110mph ? arshole.
Though I have some sympathy for Clarke Carlisle this doesn’t give him the right to drink drive. He could have easily killed someone and ruined the lorry drivers life then he comes on the TV all apologetic ?, that means nothing.Berahino got a £3400 fine 12 month ban absolute joke for someone young West Brom fans look up to. The FA need to start banning players 6-12 months at a time and 10%-15% of their yearly earnings and see how they take to that. Playing in the prem comes with responsibilities and they should be aware of it.
Sounds well when you can get a ban for mention super mario and ball all for doing 110mph while pissed.
Adopting the Swiss system, where the speeding fine is a portion of the salary would hit guys like Berahino harder. This would have to be law and not an FA initiative.
The case of drink & drive is one topic. Whoever does this has to face the music.
Depression and the desire to commit suicide is a very personal topic, so let’s try not to understand or judge from a distance.
According to some research, the suicide success rate is 4%. That itself tells its own story.Just admitted that he was attempting to take his own life! Not a care for the lorry driver or the family and friends he would have left behind wondering why? No sympathy from me whatsoever the selfish bastard! It is not your sympathy or mine that he needs. It is only that of his loved ones that matters.
If explaining that he was attempting to take his own life encourages others in a similar position to reach out, then that’s the one positive that can come from this.
Kim’s agent came out in support of Malky after the texting storm.
It could be possible that he actually enjoyed playing under Malky. That would be my assumption if he does actually sign.
Did the FA have any say? I thought it was FIFA.
Besides, the rule seemed to be a bit ambiguous.“Gillingham? Yep been there, was there when the Spaniards made their debuts and a certain ‘Jesus is a Wiganer’ flag made it’s debut.”
That’ll be 20 years ago in August!
Another Gillingham memory was a drab end of season 0-0, but the same day as Sheffield Eagles won the Challenge Cup. A few glum faces heading back north that weekend. What would happen if he played in a league game?
Dicko didnt do much for us but it worked at wolves thats how football goes
That might have something to do with him never actally playing for us ……. simliar to Riera and Delort
do you go actually go to games ???
That is a fair point you make CW. Didn’t see much of him but seem to remember him playing in the last game of the season at home (can’t remember who against) and thought he looked half decent, he had pace and knew how to find space.
Thought it was premature us getting rid of him considering scoring goals was a problem for us at that time. This Leon Clarke has had a lot of clubs, hope he isn’t a bit troublesome.. His goal scoring record doesn’t look too bad and he likes to score on his debut. Let’s hope he does for us
Troublesome? Bust-up with Di Canio while at Swindon and then kicked out of the club. Maybe it isn’t clear who the troublemaker was in that case.
Looking at his CV he doesn’t appear to be a saint, but as we’ve only got him on loan for a few months he should have something to prove and we may benefit.
Ramis the next to gohttp://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/ivan-ramis-levante-wigan-athletic-spain-2234416.aspx
This one is best for everyone. Almost happened this time last year, but he failed a medical (at Palace??).
Lets hope the lads who can’t get a game at our relegation rivals do the job for us.Jason Pearce with 99 league games for Leeds. Any chance a tight chairman doesn’t want to pay add-ons once he reaches 100 games? It has been seen before.
He has been captain at most clubs he has been at.
It will do us no harm to have a leader at the back ;)Be interesting to see where everybody’s opinion lies after all the gold has gone and the scrap is left, MAlky would have had his transfer window and we’ll be left with what we’re left with, loans and cheap buys, meanwhile all of the lads who’ve left will be at teams in top divisions or looking at promotion. Strange.
Most teams chuck a few quid at the situation to get out of it, we’ve gone the other way, most unusual, Whelan on his way out on his return from the sun imo
With respect, that’s a crock of shit in my opinion.
It was always going to be a case of getting loans in. We’re bottom of the Championship with a half empty stadium. Who of any quality would want to join us knowing there’s a good chance they’ll be in League One next season? Relegation threatened Premier League clubs might be able to attract permanent deals, but not us.
There’s more chance of getting a better standard of player on loan as they know that if we are relegated, they shake hands with Mackay, thank him for the experience and go back to their parent club.
And as for cheap buys…who, Billy McKay? Ross McCormack only cost Cardiff £120k in compensation and he didn’t do too badly for them,.
That’s the market we’re in. £4m strikers don’t want to permanently join a club who might be playing Crawley and Oldham next season.
In my opinion we’re going completely the right way about it in order to keep the club financially sound if the worst does happen.
Agree with most of this. The quicker everybody faces up to the reality the better.
Wolves, for instance, were still trying to get rid of players on Premier League wages when they were in League One. They got promotion but not with those players.
Our team of scouts and our youth coaches will be more important than they have been for a Long time.
The timing of this e-mail I just received from Latics marketing couldn’t be better.
Subject: Hurry, Latics Player Sale Ends Soon!
Lee McCulloch – the way he, by his own admission, conducted himself was far worse than Chimbonda
Still gave his all on the field though
His “all” resulted in a sending-off in his last game and allowed Heskey to gain cult status as a centre-half.
It did yes. And?
He didn’t exactly take his toys home and refuse to play did he?
No he didn’t. I agree with you.
