Thanks for that copy and paste article from Google LMB.
However, with all that money and all that interest in football, why the hell did they allow a second rate manager like Warnock take up the helm of his ship and buy players the quality of Ady Boothroyd, DJ Campbell, Joey Barton,SWP and the loan signing of Man Utd’s 5th choice striker. Why not invest all that “throw away” cash on the likes of David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Yaya Toure or Carloz Tevez?
I’m sure they would sooner be fighting for the title than fighting relegation. Just seen on SSN that they have now recruited Man city’s 5th choice central defender.
Nobody is disputing the money this club owners have, its more about understanding what running a football club is all about. Although I’m not keen on the pilluk, listen to the interview that Warnock gave after being sacked by Fernandes by e-mail.
Like I said lets watch what happens to QPR when this multi, multi millionaire gets bored with his little toy. ;)
…and I tend to agree JR. It will be interesting to see how this ‘Little London Club’ fare when the Fair Play system kicks in (not long now)…..again it will come down to how clubs are managed (and I don’t mean on the field) – I think there will be a few ‘shocks’ in the next couple of years.
you cant come on here and make a negative comment about martinez and his merry men and not escape the wrath of the lightsiders led by there leader Mrs griff :cheer:Damn……
….here’s me thinking this was a thread started in your honour.
Ah well!
I was wondering when the leader of the LIGHTSIDE would give us the benefit of his wisdom :PGriff….
…if I’m Humphrey Bogart then this must be you fella (with hair of course)….
I work with a number of Birmingham City fans and they’ve been having a laugh at my expense this morning. They say last season he was OK, but this season he’s done utterly nothing.
Not being a dark-sider, I reckon thay maybe he’ll be another N’Zogbia for us. But then again, maybe not.
The following is an interesting article written by (what appears to be) a fairly sensible blogger…someone who has watched him over the years.
What is really interesting though is what ‘Masaccio’ says in the comments at 9:28am (anyone recognise some of those feelings) and also what ‘parkp’ says at 11:19am.
Poor financial planning/management will see the ‘death knell’ for many a club (across all leagues)…..look at Portsmouth again.
From your comment regarding goalscoring, i take it you live alone?? :blink:To throw my hat in the ring: – In my opinion Rodellega isn’t as quick as he looks, is knocked off the ball too easily, quite often has the first touch of Peter Sutcliffe and bottles out of challenges. Yes he’s our top goal scorer, but I’m the top goal scorer in my house – the competition is similar.
Also in my opinion, Callum McManaman isn’t a millions miles off the standard of Rodellega now and will only get better with time and experience.

Mr Standish….how many times do you have to be reminded about taking your information from Wigan Athletic’s ‘Official’ website.
as they have not included the two that he has scored this season as shown here..
Oh! that’s right it still makes him our top goalscorer….silly me.
Top and tail of it is we are not a big enough club to survive in the Prem and we have been punching above our weight for too long now ! We have been continually ridiculed by tv pundits, the media and opposing fans for our bad gates. Now the inevitable decline in the standard of our squad for all the obvious reasons has caught up with us and I would be very surprised if we stay up come the end of the season ! If we do go down the squad will suffer further and it remains to be seen who will come in. What I will say is that from what I have seen over the last couple of seasons from RM’s tactics, starting line ups and contingency plans I think he has underachieved and perhaps could have fared better with the hands he has been dealt so to speak, but hey that’s just an opinion ! It does seem to be quite evident that there is transition ahead for WAFC and its ownership and DW has been very wary with his finances of late and who could blame him ! I will say that I have continued to go on every home game and do my best verbally to gee the lads on but it has on the whole so far this season been pretty shit if we are all going to be honest with ourselves ! Circumstance I’m afraid, it really is quite simply down to that !If only some of the ‘darker’ thinkers had said something like this some time ago….we would have saved a lot of heartache and unnecessary bickering. As Griff said earlier “the lightside do share some concerns” and as Standish so eloquently debated we still have a big picture to fulfil….and there have been some good counters from those who see ‘the problems’ and that it all could go wrong. However, what you now say has restored a little bit of balance and maybe, just maybe, we can all get behind the club and show them that whatever the outcome at the end of the season we will all still be there.
Well said Phil.
A couple of signings can only be a positive move,as long as we change something and put them on the pitch.I for one would have been glad to see the back of Robbie last season, but while he is still at the helm and is obviously trying to address our situation then i will get behind him and the team .As difficult as it will be i still believe we can get out of the drop zone as our relegation rivals will not have it all their own way either…So lets confound the critics once again and hope Robbie and the team can turn it around.. :lol:Well said.
Just what we need……..level headed positivity.
Mickyc we are all concerned about the club and it’s condition for the future which is why for me Bob must go. We have had very few positives in nearly 3 seasons and looking at the bigger picture we are in a worse position than when Bob arrived. I just don’t see how you can still think Bob is the man for the job and as you do could you answer these questions.Hindley…at last a little ‘light in the dark sky’ from you. It’s true “we are all concerned about the club and it’s condition for the future” and yet again we are diverted (by your questions) away from the big picture by focusing, yet again (and unfairly in my opinion)on a Roberto and his position in the club.
Mr Standish’s exceptional reply (well put sir) summed it all up succinctly in his opening two lines.
No one here (or their mates friends aunties cousin)has access to the boardroom and regardless of uninformed speculation know nothing about what really goes on (no honestly they don’t)
Further, apart from standing at a distance from the training pitch, no one has any idea of playing/training performances, medical details, tactics or plans, players views or dressing room atmosphere. It would be professional suicide to make any of this public.
No one here has any idea about the state of the clubs finances (I know access through Company Accounts can give an overview, however the devil (as they say) is in the detail…..and that we do not see).
I believe that there is a plan, a long term strategic one, that seems to be being followed and I’m confident it is for the good, well being and future of our status as a viable club now and in the future – and I for one will support this.
People should remember….there have been ‘darker’ days before these.
Can you prove that Bicky?goodpost :cheer:
I thought that very clever considering your username.
Yet another example of the sneery, glib, non-sensical, non-amusing remark that naffs people people off about the anti-Martinez brigade. Come up with some realistic alternative solutions to our current predicament and I’m sure there’ll be a reasoned debate. You may even find that we on the light side of the fence actually agree with many of your concerns. But we’ll never really know because you never seem interested in presenting them in a rational manner….and there we have it Griff – but we (the lightside) are more concerned about how the club is, it’s condition and it’s future. I gave a personal analogy recently about our Maude….married for years but she has her faults (as do I) but I don’t continually harp on about them (nor does she)…..I can’t stand my daughters partner, but I’ve not disowned her – like Roberto says – big picture and look at the positives, however I don’t see that rational presentation coming our way any time soon.
I would be hard pressed to think of anyone who would do a worse job.
Me for a start – and I would suspect most posters on here.
Graeme Souness.
John Barnes.
Kevin Keegan.
(Hang on, there’s a theme here – who did they all play for!)
Roy Keane (particularly as he “loves” Wigan now).
Avram Grant.
Paul Ince.
Alain Perrin.
Brian Kidd.
Christian Gross.
Shall I go on??
That’s a fair list you put up there Mr Garswood (and some good contenders).
Have a look here also:
scroll down the page to ‘available managers’ to see a complete list of out of work managers.
I venture quite a few of these would also qualify for your list too.
I really don’t think it is an insipid brand of football though. I quite like what he is trying to do but for some reason (and this does come down to Roberto) things just don’t seem to be clicking. The concept is great but the reality is somewhat lacking. I just really hope that he somehow makes them click in the next few games and things start happening for us. Very frustrating to watch at times but if everything clicks into place it’ll be worth the frustration to have a club playing a brand of football that is not easy to achieve.Fair play if you’d prefer someone else at the helm, that’s your opinion. I, personally, would rather struggle with someone who cares and who has a genuine passion for the club than be a “little” bit better with some long ball merchant who has our players kicking people off the park. Suppose it comes down to what you want out of supporting a football club. To me, Roberto is one of us and I will support him as such. I won’t have blind faith in him because, as stated earlier he has made a lot of mistakes, but I will give him a fair crack of the whip to get things right. He’s kept us up for 2 seasons with a dwindling budget so can’t be doing that badly, can he?
I’ve often pondered what supporting a club is and I still haven’t worked it out. It can’t be the players because they come and go. It can’t be anything to do with the stadium because that has changed and I’m still here. It’s definitely not the chairman. I don’t really care for the business side of it so it leaves me with just the memories of being taken by my Dad and the rapport with other supporters that has been built up with attending games. I guess, in that sense, I see Roberto as a fan and that is the reason I would like to see him succeed and am willing to give him more time.
It doesn’t really matter if we go down because it’ll still be my club and I can never change that. In it for good and bad no matter what. We have been spoiled in a way for the last few years but look back to where we came from, and where we might be heading again, it wasn’t that bad, was it?
Totally off topic now!
It may be ‘off topic’, however, I believe what you have said encapsulates the feelings of the majority of supporters of our club. Indeed it a rough patch we are going through and finance, playing staff and possibly some boardroom decisions could be playing its part but regardless of the outcome at the end of the season we will still be a viable club with a long term future.
I too, am behind the (DW/playing/support) team and as I have said before (and alluded to by your goodself)some people choose to forget that there have been worse times in the past.
Eternal optimist that I am……I believe that we can win 8 out of our remaining games this season.
Off off topic now………regarding the finances I have just noticed that the game against Norwich has been changed for $ky and that this will be their seventhtelevised game this season – now there is some real TV money going into their club – would never happen at Little ol’ Wigan.
Right. This is the solution.
It is getting quite boring on here with multiple threads ranting and raving about Martinez, Whelan etc etc etc out.
It’s easy, nail your colours to the mast instead of hiding behind your gay computer screens.
Do as they do in Spain, if you are not happy with the regeime take your white hankerchief to the game and wave it above your head. SIMPLE.
It will be interesting to see how many “fans” bottle it.
For the record i can see no reason to get rid at this stage, what will be will be as disapointed as i am with the whole situation.
Keep the faith.I dont have a white hankerchief, will they be provided?
Yes….
unfortunately people will have to collect them themselves. I believe they will be available from the suppliers at Ewood Park from 3.00pm on 4th Feb (no prior orders will be allowed I’m afraid)….so be there or miss the opportunity.
At least Mr Martinez shows his persistence….I believe he was after this guy in the past.
However, reading between the lines, do we need to brace ourselves for the loss of one (or maybe two) of our players – now that would be a shame.
OK Michael we will leave it there then
I`m off to the bright city lights by the ocean later anyway. Have a good night yourself.
Good night indeed…….
enjoy your night by the seaside.
How was the surf?
eh?…..
