Paul Trevillion is quite a character. I once saw him in a Christmas pantomime.
From Wikipedia; Trevillion’s career away from his art has been rich and, at times, bizarre. He worked as a stand-up comedian, supporting the likes of Norman Wisdom and Bob Monkhouse, had a record deal, was crowned world speed-kissing champion, and invented a split-handed golf putting technique. He was also the inspiration behind an attempt to boost Leeds United’s image in the 1970s. Hired by Don Revie in 1972, his ideas included wearing numbered sock tags (which were subsequently thrown into the crowd as souvenirs) and synchronised warm-ups.
The cartoon strip may offer an answer to bronx’s question;
Can anyone explain why, when Leeds had two players down injured at the same time, both attended to by the trainer, they didn’t leave the field of play as the rules state? Thought there may be a ruling where if two people are injured, and require the trainer, then they don’t have to leave the field, but it happened a couple of weeks ago when Liverpool played, I think Southampton, and two Southampton players were off the field when Liverpool scored.It was looking for a cygnet ring!
Bad news for Arsene – Roberto has taken Everton into the fourth place for the Champions League.
Good news for Arsene – you could still win a place in the Europa Cup.
Dove Bridge, near Uttoxeter!
There are likely to be some unfamiliar faces on the bench, and perhaps on the pitch too.Arsenal started with Sanogo. Their subs were;
01 Szczesny
12 Giroud
25 Jenkinson
28 Gibbs
29 Källström
37 Akpom
42 EisfeldArsenal seem to have exhausted their squad of players, and their strikers seem as likely to score as ours.
Now sitting in fifth place, they play West Ham on Tuesday. Roberto will be watching with interest.
We won’t score a lot of goals but, if things go our way, we could win it one-nil. However, it may be close and could well go to extra time.Not a bad forecast!
Cracking day and heroic effort today – no shame in taking arrogant Arsenal all the way to penalties – but could it have been a very different story?Wrong starting line up?
Wrong substitutions?
Wrong penalty shoot out strategy?Wrong manager! Rosler must go!
In the starting line up, I thought that the balance between defence and attack was correct. Rosler might have preferred Watson or McCann – if either had been available. I was surprised – but not concerned – to see Carson was playing. I thought Rosler might have gone for 3-5-2.
Powell for McManaman seemed a fair exchange. Powell didn’t get much service or support. I was surprised to see Caldwell appear – but he played his part. I was quite happy to go into extra time with that eleven.
The goalkeeper saved two Wigan penalties – well done Fabianski.
We matched Arsenal – well done, lads. We can concentrate on the league now. I hope Ramis isn’t seriously injured, but we can add Maloney and Caldwell to the squad.
We haven’t played our strongest team for some time. I’m expecting a performance like the one at the Etihad.
I hope that we will match a misfiring Arsenal. We won’t score a lot of goals but, if things go our way, we could win it one-nil. However, it may be close and could well go to extra time.
I wonder what Uwe saw in the Everton-Arsenal game. Can he make it count tomorrow?
Swarkestone Bridge, over the River Trent.
Have a good day tomorrow!
London Evening Standard;
Rosler will play “with a three man defence and wing-backs. Marc-Antoine Fortune will be the lone front man.”
They could line up;
Al Habsi
Boyce Ramis Bartlett
Perch and Beausejour
McManaman McArthur Gomez Powell
FortuneRosler could start with a more defensive midfield, with McEachran or Collison instead of McManaman. Maloney to come on as a substitute.
Subs; Carson, Crainey, Rogne, McEachran, Collison, Maloney, Maynard
I hope they play well and that everybody has a good day out! Reaching the semifinal two years running is an extraordinary achievement. The final two years running…that would be incredible!
Thanks, Moonay. Have a good day tomorrow!
London Evening Standard;
Wigan have no chance if we play well, says Podolski
Can anyone remember the last time that Arsenal played well?
They certainly didn’t play well on Sunday at Everton.
Barnsley, you’ve just (selectively) copied & pasted this from Sky Sports ……….. why? Shouldn’t you at least acknowledge the re-production by way of a link?You’re right. They’re not my words. And I haven’t actually spoken to Uwe about the way Martinez plotted the downfall of Arsenal.
In fact, I’ve cut and pasted it from the ITV Sport pages. The giveaway was the penultimate line – that’s the last but one;
Watch Arsenal v Wigan live on ITV and ITV.com/football
I thought that would be enough to tell people of average intelligence where it came from.
Sorry, but I can’t say where Sky Sports got the story from.

Hardly an authority on English sport.
I wonder how they came to interview Serge Gnabry.
He’s an eighteen year old who was born in Stuttgart.
I wonder if he knows where Wigan is.
He’s hardly a regular in the Arsenal first team.
But he does appear to be talented.
