As you are correctly insinuating, Defoe is also small, and so is Michael Owen. The question is why buy another small striker when we generally play one up front as a target-man? Or, if we go to 4-4-2, we’d end up with two dwarfs up front.The SPL is a pub league, where you can look a world beater with an ounce of pace or guile. My point is, if he was a great finisher but had a bit of size about him, I’d be delighted with him joining us. Unfortunately, a player like that is Kris Boyd and he isn’t interested in Wigan.
standish,you say the spl is a pub league,what makes you think boyd will be good enough and mcdonald wont be,bob as already said that rodney is more dangerous out wide and until bob as built the team hes trying to we dont really what hes got instore, e.g i know he played different position but hand on heart when McCulloch played under rioch can you honestly say he would have turned out to be the player he was under jewell
Whilst he has a prolific goalscoring record he’s only 5’8″ and whilst Artiz is 6′ 0″ if what I read is right he’s 11stone 9lbs, with no premiership experience it could take them a while to settle in. Although we would have 4 strikers, they would all be light weights, I think the club could do with at least one striker with prem experience who is a bit meatier and not easily pushed off the ball, e.g. Jason Roberts or James Beattie.
Agree with you 100%. I’d have Beattie or Roberts – but think there’s little chance we’ll have either.

and jermain defoe is a giantIgnoring the way that Bruce jumped ship (although I can’t blame him & if you think Bobby will do any less if a “bigger” club comes calling then you are living in cloud cuckoo land) & basing my decision solely on the tactics & consistant performances then its Steve Bruce hands down for me – so far.
For all you saying look at the mess Bobby inherited a) as someone else has pointed out I don’t think it was that much of a mess & b) look at the pile of chaotic situation Bruce inherited.
We hadn’t won in god knows how long, had no recognised left back & he turned players who were playing poorly before he came Bramble – in fact the whole back four, Kirkland, Valencia etc. into looking twice as good within weeks.
Within months Bobby has turned those players who were here under Bruce & playing well – Bramble, Boyce, Melchiot, Kirkland etc.. into (at times) as much use as a chocolate fire guardare these the same tactics that never saw us win in 9 games (may be wrong saying 9 correction if i am) and just about scrape a win against a very poor pompey side at the end of last season.And hes doing such a good job up at sunderland,they were 11pts clear of us at 1 stage this season i think its 2 now
