Question for you Mr Brownbill. Given our crowds and investment what would you see as a good finishing position this season?
Beggars belief? Top 4 over last decade in Premier League are generally clubs with massive followings or loads of money. 4 of top 5 in Championship as we speak (West Brom, Forest, Swansea and Leeds) have either massive crowds (in comparison to us) or have a fair bit of money. PNE will drop as you well know.
Do you not recall our rise to success being linked to having a wealthy benefactor? Now we are back to 8k home fans and Joe Royle pulling the strings we are struggling at a level we probably don’t belong. It’s not rocket science. Look at bottom half of table. Majority are clubs with poor crowds just like us and not much money. There’s exceptions to every rule (say Stoke and Huddersfield who are in a massive transition) but to suggest size of clubs and success aren’t linked is ridiculous.
I can’t see Cook getting sacked unless we fall into the relegation zone. Our way form is absolutely diabolical, of that there can be no excuses. On the other hand our home form under Cook is very good. In two seasons in the championship we have lost to 3 teams (Leeds, Sheffield United and Birmingham). Without this form we would have been relegated by now.
Our league position is matched by the size and infrastructure of the club. Looking at the clubs in and around us why do we expect to do better? We must average less than 10,000 home supporters in a league where those at the top end average three times as many.
So why are we still obsessed with going on about them? Our crowds are shite, there’s are marginally better given most of their games are televised. Move on.
But his home record must be amongst the best of any manager we have had.
Cookie looks like he’s improved us from last season. 6 points from the drop. Good lad!
Powell certainly made a wise move! Since new years day we have lost one game at home in the league (Leeds) . For that Cook should be applauded for making the DW a fortress but why the hell are we so bad away from home?
Sure Cosgrove joined us at 17.
A great goal Saturday but insane we are suggesting he’s worth 15 million having played an hours football all season and scored a single goal. Modern football is mad. Bellingham at Birmingham is 16 and has scored the winner in their last two games. Must be worth 40 million then. Give the lad time.
Forgot about those brilliant lads. If Gelhardt has half the career Chow and Flores have had we should piss this league.
Off our brilliant production line? When did we last have a lad who came through academy and scored? Must be first player in a decade! Great finish but patience will be key.
Exactly. All he does is receive with his back to goal. Limits our playing style and pointless winning headers with no support. He isn’t gonna get in behind so unless style changes and we can get crosses in that’s an obvious limitation. Massey has hardly done a pre season so isn’t up to his usual standards and Lowe is settling in. Nobody’s criticising 17 year olds. I believe Gelhardt in particular will become a very good player. Its simply a sign of our squad depth that we are forced to play them.
I’m simply highlighting the frailty of our squad and I’m afraid I found the subs a bit underwhelming. Certainly not the reason we didn’t win. As decent as Moore is in the air I’ve still not seen him have a shot on target in the games he’s played. We seem to be creating very little in the final third.
Seen us play worse. On another day we would have won Thought Mulgrew was decent enough, Lowe showed his electric pace but wasn’t always in right position to receive ball, Marshall superb and won us a point. Thought subs were a bit odd. Feel sorry for young lad who came on and struggled. Seemed to lose ball very time.
‘These are more than just football clubs. They are the heartbeat of their communities. Justifiable sources of civic pride in areas suffering from the decline of industry, the systematic vandalism of the welfare state and the ideological erosion of vital services. The market has decided. Work until you die. You lost. Fuck off. Bolton and burys demise might seem far away from the gilded corners of the top flight ‘Tunnel clubs’ with their ‘Official Noodle Partners’ but when the pyramid begins to burn even those at the top will eventually choke’.
