Have you ever read our accounts? You may be in for a surprise. How do you think we generate income? For a start most other clubs season tickets are double ours and they get double our crowds which outs us at a slight disadvantage. Sky never want to show us so thats another load down. ‘Im not buying that one’. Aye. We are absolutely loaded with home crowds of 12-13k. FFS!
Why ill tell thi! We are the poorest club in the league with the worst paying support meaning financial investment in a league which is constantly moving on is difficult. Hence we lose our best players and try to continually develop ‘rough diamonds’ not fancied by other clubs. In addition to this since taking over our Manager has had to cut the wage bill considerably in order that we become sustainable in the future. Of course our manager is ambitious and hopes in spite of the above that we continue to grow but simple economics mean it will always be difficult.
If all these fans want him out where are they at the game? I stand in ES2 and most fans i speak to dont want him out and i havent heard one ‘Martinez out’ chant at the match. Funny that eh? Speak up at the game then cowards instead of posting negative drivel on here. If you were at Newcastle and at the game yesterday you cant say the team didnt play well. We had around 21 shots, hit the bar, the post, missed chances but at least we are making them. At times like the this the club needs to tough it out and stick together. There are 28 games left with 35 points needed. Whatever happens i hope Bobby is there at the end either to guide us back up or having pulled us out the mire again.
We are Wigan Athletic. We have punched above our weight year in year out for years. Not one of you would have backed us to stay up in this league for 7 years or more. Enjoy it. Appreciate where we are and who we are. Support the team and those who enabled us to get in this position.
Think your on an a different player. He was bloody awful for us from start to finish!
WIGAN 2-0 QPR
Phil Dawkes reports: “Wigan deserved the win, even though QPR hit the woodwork three times and deflected both goals in. Luck may have played its part, but there was also a small gulf in quality.”
Not a bad fan is Alan Fairhurst but not sure if he goes away as much anymore with his nephew Darren. Other good all weather fans would be Danny Kennedy and Brian Sabin but fact Brian used to blag free tickets at away matches used to wind a few regulars up. Old Fred and his wife used to be my favourites. Home and away through all the leagues. Club Legend! Oh and that fella with a tash and perm who was always at Springy with his Peroxide Blonde wife with the massive set of teeth has been knockin about a few years.
Griff. I still don’t understand why you bother to rise to this mon. Every weekend whatever the result certain individuals come on here with their negative attitude regardless of performance or result. FFS remember this was the fella that was writing five chorus songs on our demise prematurely in May only to be left with egg on his face again.
It might be worth a punt but cant see us paying a fortune for a championship striker with less than a year on his contract. When i think of strikers banging em in at that level i cant help think of Jason Scotland.
I suppose its difficult to see who else we could sign. I see Zaki is available for 1 million. Still the best striker i have seen for us in the Premier league.
Playing Gomez and Di Santo reminds me of Einsteins definition of insanity: “doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.
Despite being given chance after chance Gomez has been substituted practically every game he has played. He is too slow to play football at this level. Time and again he slows up play for us meaning players have to check their runs and gives cant tackle a fish supper.
Di Santo has now appeared in 70 games in this country, starting 28 games in this country and has scored a massive 2 goals in total. Though his work rate cannot be questioned his ability to hold the ball up, his heading ability and his ability to find the target has been pretty woeful from the games he has played for us. 45 minutes of huffing and puffing and a bit of gamesmanship for the penalty wont change my opinion. When is enough enough with these two?
According to mate of mine who works for GMP match could be cancelled due to these riots as police are being deployed elsewhere.
Remember this clown (LMB) writing lyrics to the day that music died on our impending relegation last year before West Ham match. Have never took him serious since. What kind of fan does that? Ended up looking like a right fool!
Strongest second half of season in our premier league history by my reckoning. Perhaps we couldn’t hold on to our best player but we have signed one of the best keepers in the league and some of our young players coming through look great. Unlike others who rush in and look like fools (see above) i’ll reserve judgement, get behind the team and trust DW and Bobby know a lot more about Premiership football than any of us!
DW declared a price tag to generate interest and get rid of a player who clearly wanted to leave and we couldn’t risk keeping. The fact only one club was interested is not his fault! No price has been officially declared so how does anybody know its 9.5?
Big un you are right regarding someones worth however Moses better than Zog come on..Deluded..Good luck Charles and thanks for last season..
Think you’re misquoting me rather! I didn’t say he was better i simply said he was capable. He is a young lad of 20 who has had few chances. He has also impressed for such a young lad when given the chance and has turned quite a few games already. We will never know unless we give him the opportunity and that time has now come.
Am i being naive or is he only worth what someone is prepared to pay? I mean they weren’t exactly lining up to sign him! Only one club made a real bid with the last bid of note being from the same Manager at Birmingham. If he was as good as some of you men make out why is nobody in the top 8 interested at this ‘snip’ of a price?
Some of you are deluded remembering some of his best performances which coincided with the end of the season. He wasn’t fantastic all season and went missing/sulking in quite a number of games. Moses is more than capable of filling his boots and is far more talented at beating a man. If he starts to finish we will soon forget Charlie.
You can all say what you want and its a game of opinions but to me he looked completely out of his depth. Runs like he’s shit himself. Cant hold a ball up. Didn’t create many opportunities for himself as made predictable runs in most of the games he played. Cant head it. Got bullied by centre halves every time he played and though he may not have made many starts if you wanna play the stats game in European games he has scored 7 in 40 starts so far which is poor.
He made few starts cos he was so poor which is why in a season we were struggling we shipped him off on loan. We could have said No!
