Eoin doyle, striker at Preston North end, has been managed by cook at 3 clubs, last one being on loan at Portsmouth last season, will he be joining us at some point this season ?.

In full and total agreement Lowey. I would only add that after 10 minutes up against it and several consecutive corners for the opposition it was our chance to put some pressure on their defence, that Powers mindset was so worryingly defensive, equally worrying was Joyce taking off grigg, rather than utilising 2 strikers also defensive. The quality of our passing, corners and free kicks was poor what the hell do they do in training sessions.

Am in agreement when I saw we had 2 defensive midfielders could,nt believe that the player needed to make the killer pass didn’t start,i cannot understand why power is on before gomez, felt sorry for grigg given little or no support which was compounded when instead of being given support from davies he was swapped for le fondre, first time around Powell impressed when he first came here before he left, felt he became a show pony, not convinced by him.

Easiest vote ever, but for Al Habsi we would have been down a long time ago. Heaven help us if we have to rely on Kirkland next season, whether we stay up or not.

think he did well, especially when newcastle upped their bid to 12 million for Zogs. Can’t remember a less damaging transfer window, plus Sammon in and Cleverley kept, with the injury list lessening looks like there may well be some good competition for places.

They all make mistakes jrfatfan, a youngish referee with the benefit of a further 2 years experience. I find it hard to name referees who are not always giving major decisions to the big clubs, he’s the only one that stands out to me this season, as I said somebody who books 5 liverpool players including one that gets away with assaults has some bottle. I’m more interested in a rare good performance from a ref this seasson rather than a bad one 2 seasons ago. If you can think of a better/ fairer refs performance this season please give us it.

In full agreement with you. I cant think of another referee who would have the bottle to book 5 Liverpool players including lord Torres and King Gerrard in a game against us.

                        “Not true.
Off the top of my head, in 5 premeir league seasons we have signed the following players who have been “ready made” for this division & didn’t need time to settle in:
Chimbonda, De Zeeuw, Camara, Heskey, Cattermole, Palacios, Scharner, Kirkland, N’Zogbia, Bramble, Boyce, Melchiot, Pollitt – am sure given the time or the inclination I could name many more (& no doubt others (Valencia, Rodallega etc..) who needed a bit of time to settle in.”

I would be the first to agree with you about Martinez not having brought in enough experienced players, however have had a look at the players you mentioned above. The highest number of them signed in the same season was 4 in 2006, when Jewell signed Kirkland, Scharner, Boyce and Heskey, despite these quality signings the club finished 17th staying up on last game of season by winning at Sheffield, so am not sure at all about them not needing time to settle in.

Regarding Scharner :? On the one hand I admire this oddball guy, (usually when he’s playing centre half) On the other hand he makes me feel like tearing my hair out (usually when he’s playing in midfield)

His Highs usually contributes 3 or 4 goals per season already on 4.
A very good defender / header of the ball, wins the headers in midfield too, Strong on the ball can make some useful runs through midfield.

Greatest moments scoring in the Carling Cup semi final 1st league in a 1.0 win over Arsenal.
Finest Hour for me his role in keeping us up in 2006/7 season scoring 1st goal at Sheffield in our 2.1 win

                          His Lows
(For Me) A square peg in a round hole in midfield, disrupts McCarthy and Diame by poor positioning, lacks control on the ball, Awful passing and occasionally being less than supportive to them.
Yearly seems to intimate he will move on to another club, but accepts a pay rise and stays.

TyldesleyLatic I have no problems with 5 of the 6 players you refer to as dross, but am amazed that Lee Cattermole is in your list, bought for £3.5 million sold for 6 million, yes he was hot headed, yes he had his head turned by Bruce, yes he turned his back on the club, but have never before heard anyone before saying he was dross, he was as well as our young player of the year, in the top four for player of the year only last season.

I feel very sorry for Martinez he was probably looking for Cattermole’s experience to help Mc Carthy Diame Thomas in their FIRST season in the Prem. Mc Carthy’s signing for an initial 1.2 million looks an absolute steal, so does Diame just over 3 million, Thomas is a little behind them, yes his passing needs much improvement, but worth bearing in mind has one of the highest tackle counts in the prem. He also brought in Caldwell who has had only one bad game to my knowledge and Victor Moses whom He bought for less than half of what was being offered for him before Palaces woes, and on the evidence of last night is a very good prospect whom we wont lose a penny on.

The majority of the prospects identified by Martinez, were probably bought in to fit in with what Whelan allowed him because of the ever increasing wage bill, which Vat69 has highlighted hence some will make the grade, whilst others wont.

To me the biggest mistake made in the last transfer window was not signing an experienced premiership striker, people of the ilk of Jason Roberts or Kevin Beattie, maybe they didnt want to come, or maybe their wage demands were too high for Whelan. We will probably never find out.

Not so sure about that standish, not aware of any massive ego’s to feed although scharner has the occasional paddy. I wonder given the many nationalities in the team how much gets lost in translation, for me the key areas of the field that we lack experience in are central midfield, long term I think Diame and McCarthy will work well together but need to get to know each others game and are learning the ropes against top notch midfielders everyweek. Upfront we haven’t got a player who can fit the system and score goals. I don’t think it’s down to one thing but that l’ts a cocktail of all these factors that impact on the effectiveness of martinez’s preferred system.
