Uwe Rosler: “I like the front players to be very energetic and very willing to get the ball as soon as we lose the ball.”

Holt & Fortune ?????

Good luck with that Uwe !! :)

I suspect we will get plenty of practice at losting losing the ball as we tend not to keep it ;)

I believe Man Utd are being investigated :)

And you’ve just bagged ya first little fishie edinburgh

As Martinez says, I feel like we are growing as a team :)

in reply to: Who would you like as the new manager??? #124404

Talking to a Blackpool season ticket holder at work he says Holloway is all out attack with no clue about defending, would Graham Jones be tempted as he knows the Martinez way, (Chris Hutchings, not a good choice) Phelan would have great contacts. For me the best person we could get would be Glenn Hoddle but I don’t think we would have a chance of getting him, he certainly would play on the floor football.

Any thoughts?

The two stand outs are Holloway and Phelan -logic says Holloway however Phelan was no ordinary number 2 given the work he did at utd and after some thought would me my choice.
I still think we can sneak in the play offs so the appointment has to be a good one and results need to be immediate .
Holloway could not be a choice, havent we heard the Stress lines before when he was at Palace. need fresh blood. Phelan all the way.

Seven points off an automatic relegation spot and nine points from the last play-off spot ! Now some posters on here have said that there is no cause for panic and that we are doing fine, well the above situation says otherwise and so I implore you Uncle Dave to act fairly fast and get a new boss in post haste !

To be honest I think the main problem is the fitness of the squad. We don’t need a manager immediately – we need a fitness coach.

We have what is widely acknowledged to be a good set of players individually, who started the season well, even pre-season they looked promising, but have slid down and down since. They are just not fit, and anyone who expected to see an improvement yesterday is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. It will take weeks to get them fit again.

Take as much time as it takes to get the right manager in, Dave, but get someone working on the team’s fitness quickly.
Barrow out….. Need change soon and get the new manager in.

name me 5 funny female stand up commedians. impossible!

in reply to: who does he think he is? #124233
Got bollocks eh? Hes dead right. He inherited a relegated side thats used to losing games for years. The team dont have a winning mentality and never have had. People let two games in a cup run shroud their judgement.

If we know anything about Whelan its that he wont be bullied by fans. Remember the Martinez out chants alongside the banners. Fickle lot are singing his name today. Win our game in hand and we are well placed. About time some on here got it in perspective. We dont have a god given right to be in the premier league.

Not sure if this was a wind up, but by Coyle’s logic does that mean we should have expected to be relegated?

We should be top 3 in this poor division.

in reply to: Coyle Scaked? #124232

Whelan will have his 15 minutes of fame, don’t worry, and tell the world.

in reply to: sacked #124231

Said before the game we will see if Coyle has lost the dressing room, 3-0 down at half time said it all. Second half showed that they can do it if they want, but Coyle had to go !

in reply to: Gomez #124008

Its been a long love hate road with Gomez and to be honest I cant think of anything he has added to the team this season, last night was a cummulation of fustraition with the fans and he needs to know that fustraition.

Coyle needs to sort that midfuield out as there was a huge ghap there all night.

in reply to: McManaman #124007

I think people seem to forget that McManaman is a young player, hasnt even played league football for more than 12 months, and given we seem to be relying on him it is a lot of pressure, look at Sterling at Liverpool its easy to explode onto the scene and then fail to live up to your hype. Martinez caged him and motivated him well and let him go at the end of the season. This has to be down to Coyle.

in reply to: Ian Holloway #124005
Not sure but I would welcome him. Trouble is Kaiser Dave is so stubborn that he’ll back Coyle to the hilt no matter how bad he is as he appointed him. Things are going to get much worse in January as United are considering re-calling Powell and sending him out on loan to another Prem club to aid his development further.

We are a one man team at present in midfield and up front, without Powell we would be in real trouble.

I am not speaking as SLO on here (Cockney Latic), so don’t take my views to be that of the Club or WASC.

You mean apart from:
The players Dinner
The 16 times it has been at the DW store in town
The two events at Sharpy’s
The 40+ schools it has visited
The 12+ School Summer Fairs it went to
All the time it came to Tesco before the Cup Final
The many times it has been to WYZ
Plus many more opportunities

Only one of these has been ‘exclusive’ to the Supporters Club… and even then, friends and family came along who weren’t members.

I see there is some sort of misconception about the Supporters Club, you know it is a non-profit volunteer organisation don’t you. 20% of the adult fans of Wigan Athletic are members and anybody can join, so I can’t see where the ‘exclusive club’ comes into it.

Each volunteer takes no money for the time they put in, most are there every match day giving 3-5 hours of their time, home and away. Some give even more behind the scenes, keeping the website up to date, taking online coach bookings, organising coaches, organising events, players, bands, charities etc….

This year so far we have raised over £8,000 for charities including the NW Air Ambulance, Joseph’s Goal, Cheeky Monkeys, Mawdsley Cricket Club, Don’t watch alone, Wigan Youth Zone and more.

Sorry for going on one, but where exactly has the exclusive bit come from? It isn’t like we have told anybody they cannot become a member, in fact the infrastructure of WASC (and the core members) is the same as when we were at Springfield Park!!!!!

However JT, you are only promoting the supporters club event on here, rather than any public events to display the trophy. In your role can you take that back to the clubthat they need to do more to promote the trophy to the fans.
As a season ticket holder I have yet to see any material drop through my letter box telling me when and where I can see the trophy. Even though I wasn’t looking to spend money at a players dinner, been aware of when the trophy was available to view in the DW store (mmm isn’t that a commercial property not responsible for the trophy, can my local bakery display it or does it need to be making money for Whelan?), Schools…… not really a great thing for your average season ticket holder with no kids in schools. And yes I could have gone to Tesco’s to see it if I didn’t have a job. Seems like lots of opportunities for the average fan to get to see it.
Exclusive club is a reference to an organisation that charges me to join before I can now see the benefits of the trophy, rather than the fans who pay week in week out but decide not to pay extra to join the club, and have events with the trophy promoted.
How dare you bring in the charity work as a defence in your argument. That wasn’t my point and I am sure you have the intellect to understand that.
Here is an idea for your official club role. Have the trophy on display at the ground before each home game to allow the paying fans to see it.!

in reply to: where do we go from here ? #123760

The games haven’t been terrible to watch for four years!

The team has done its best to play football, often against teams with much more skilful players. Whilst Wigan have been cutting the size of their squad and their wage bill, other teams have been vastly increasing theirs.

Wigan have found it hard to compete, but not because of any lack of effort from the manager or the players. The players collectively simply weren’t good enough to compete with other squads.

The problem today is quite different. It’s not the lack of resources, it’s the the lack of direction. The squad is overflowing with good midfield players, most of whom have Premier League experience. But the manager has failed to get them to play in any organised manner. On occasions they haven’t been involved in the play at all.

I would be in total disagreement. The issue is that we have a range of poor quality midfielders, that none of which see the need to take control of a game and dominate. McCann is awful, Watson has one good game in 6, McCarthur is missing McCarthey or a decent player to play alongside but puts in a more of a shift than most, Espinoza is class and for what ever reason isnt being given a run. Wingers need to be given the chance, albrighton is rubbish.
Couldn’t disagree more, on almost every player you mention.

Still you’re entitled to your opinion I suppose, as deep and insightful as it was.
Not sure if this is a ‘bite’ reply, but not sure how your view is the opposite of this.

McCann, awful, no insight into games, very few occurences when going forward makes any breakthrough, cant control a game and always chasing the ball.

Watson has 1 good game in 6, please confirm the contratory ?

McCarthur, i rate the player, but on his own out there cant make the impact he is known to do.

I still await Albrightens contributrion that isnt selfish, or indeed skillfull.

McClean and McManaman need to be played regularly for me to try and build form.

To be fair, it does smack of the exclusive club to have these events with the supporters club. Where is the open day to fans to come along and get photos taken and optional donation to charity?
