That performance on Saturday was pathetic. Did you actually go?
Hold on, you’re moving the goalposts again. Are you talking about the result or the performance?
I never questioned the performance and I agreed with most of your post. And although I wasn’t there, I heard and read enough from trusted friends and online commentary/reports to know we played badly.
But that doesn’t mean it was the worst result in several years. And just because the calibre of the other teams/competitions I’ve cited are better/worse than what we’re debating, that doesn’t mean those results were less worse.
How can you say that losing 3-0 to Donny away was a worse RESULT than losing 3-2 to Swansea when we were 2-0 up and blew any last hopes of survival, or losing to Zulte when we were 1-0 up and blew our chances of progressing in Europe?aughable…we are after all talking about relativityErr what’s not relative about Blackpool, Swansea and Wolves – and even Chelsea given the timing of that game? As for the 2 cup defeats well folk on here weren’t thinking they were laughable at the time. And Zulte – we’ll if you step back and look at the bigger 80 year Latics picture then yes that was worse than losing to Donny.
I was also going to list Derby as Jimmy mentioned, tho as it was around the time they were hitting form I decided not to.
We have no right to be beating any other team in this division, esp. not “Ch’ship relegation fodder”. Not sure if you remember but we were Prem relegation fodder not that long ago – did we not have any right then to beat some of the big teams we did a couple of seasons ago??
Not professing to be the “Bertie big bollox” team that others teams/fans think they are has always set us aside from the Leeds, West Hams, etc of this world. Hope that isn’t changing??
Go on then. Last 3 years. Give me some worse defeats than a 3-0 against Championship relegation fodder? We may play like an average championship side but our best starting eleven should be more than a match for anyone in this league.
Fine, I’ll bite some more even though you’ve conveniently limited the “several years” time range to “a few years ” to avoid results such as the 9-1 vs Spurs.
Blackpool H: 4-0
Chelsea H: 6-0
Palace A: 2-1
Swindon A: 2-1
Wolves A: 3-1
SWANSEA H: 3-2 !!!
Zulte H: 2-1Don’t forget that all 3 bottom clubs won this weekend vs. tough opposition. This league is wide open – get used to it and enjoy it. :)
Lineker in Short List t’other day was accusing Neville’s MNF show of appealing to the geeks whereas MOTD was more generalist and that s why they where the most watched show by a long mile.
Er no dumb ass – its cost the vast vast majority of folks don’t have Sky or BT so have no choice but to watch the dumbed down, generalist, unintelligent, subjective dross they serve up , or they just have it on while they’re waiting for the just as poor Football League show. Plus the big 4 pandering clearly swells the numbers.
MOTD has one less viewer this season. One of the things I was pleased about by being relegated was to not have to watch that tired old format any more.
At least Sky and BT are trying different approaches with live audiences, journos and refs rather than the boys club of has been players and media-friendly managers.
undoubtedly losing 3-0 to Doncaster Rovers is the worst result for this club in several years.Couldn’t agree more with everything else in your post, but that last line? You’re joking right??
Is Maynard actually any good? Don ‘t know much about him and t’internet is coy.
Remember he is only 19 and plays for Utd, so at that age and with that status it’s not surprising he’s quite arrogant.
I don’t dislike him for it though – I find his interviews quite amusingWhen I first saw him play in Bruges I thought he was a bit lazy, uninterested and didn’t ‘t break a sweat. But I’ve since seen that he is head and shoulders above every other player we, and most other teams, have, so prob doesn’t even need to hit full gear in most games .
.
Im finding it hard to understand that we are letting a striker go when we are light up front. Is Uwe close to signing someone?
ditto
BUT in Uwe we trust
Agreed and even more baffling is why he’s never been given a proper chance to show what he can do. The evidence is there in both his loan spells that he can find the back of the net.
With the exception of injured Watson, it looks like all the above are starting, incl JB. Even Fyvie is on the bench just like in the final.
Speaks volumes that Uwe – well done!I love how the games come thick & fast, love the unpredictability of the league how anyone can beat anyone, love watching games again with a smile on my face & have a renewed passion for going to games again as every game is exciting, there is no corruption in the championship compared to the premier. So do i miss the premier league – a resounding NO!!Couldn’t agree more!
Just scroll down this list and feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up as you get nearer to the bottom. :cheer:1 of just 22ish winners since the war. Shame they’ve only put down Wigan and not the Athletic though. All the other teams have their full name.
No back tracking from me Griff, none what so ever. I was merely just stating the point that the title of the thread and the first post indicated something different than what you and others thought it meant. Maybe there was a subliminal message in there, who knows.
If you decide to look into a comment deeper and make it read what you want it to read then so be it.
Like I say, no back tracking at all, I still hope he fails as badly at Everton as he did with us.
I do realise its probably unlikely as he inherited a better set of players and has also borrowed a quarter of his team from other clubs.
Great post Horc, got your point of view over without the need to make childish insults towards others on here who may have a different view, well done.
.
Spot on JR. The Martinez detractors on here by and large only point their insults in one direction – BFB himself. However, the response to this tends to be insults back at the detractors themselves.
Anyhows – back to the ambiguous topic itself: it appears an ex-Wigan player thwarted a 3rd defeat very late in the day. Not unlike what he’d done to us under Bob a couple of times. A great fight back by Everton (as Bob and the media have made it out to be)? Or perhaps signs of a bit of a wobble given the defeat to Sunderland a couple of games back?
I have heard a rumour we are tracking a lad called Wells at Bradford City (42 goals in 65 games) might be a good acquisition.
Wells for me , lets put the coin down and put an end to this goal drought.
Heard that rumour about Wells too Horc – I’m wishing it happens and he comes here to score a bucketful.
I think we should be concentrating on our impotence upfront at present and the fact we are still in the lower half of the championship rather than the fate of our ex manager. Some people need to focus.
Lock this bloody thread please somebody !!!!!!!
And what exactly do you think our merry band of Cockney Latic-ites will achieve by collectively concentrating on our lack of firepower and focussing on/discussing just the one topic vs several that are close to our hearts, hmm??
Perhaps we can subliminally contact the players and will them to score…or maybe Uwe will see so much discussion between the 16 regular posters on this board about our goalscoring problem that he’ll realise that its a key issue and tap into our collective wisdom eh?
If so I’m well up for doing my part, and if locking this thread helps me and our strikers to focus then bring it on. Let us know when you’ve got a plan – until then I’d like to continue enjoying this and other pointless but amusing threads ta. ;)
A day we will remember for ever. It will not happen again so enjoy the memories…Technically yes that day will not happen again. But if you’re suggesting that that type of moment will not happen again, why not? Did we ever think that anything we’ve experienced over the last 35 years would ever happen??
Perhaps not again in some of our lifetimes, but never say never…last time I looked we were still in this season’s FA Cup ;)
