I was actually talking about this on Saturday.
I get the feeling Whelan WANTS us to go down.
Why?
Because if we picked up a £20 million Parachute payment, and then sold the likes of N’Zogbia, Rodallega, Figueroa, and Alcaraz, we would probably break just about even withe the debts we have. This would then allow Whelan to sell us and walk away with the money, rather than paying the debts off.
I also think they BELIEVE we will go down, and that is why we still haven’t signed Al-Habsi, and will not sign anybody in this transfer window. I think they are reluctant to sign anybody on a contract, not knowing what league we will be in.
I think your onto something there Vat, and I’ll take it one step further it’s why Boselli has been loaned out to get him off the wage bill. May be he did not have a clause in his contract were his wages were affected by relegation. Bob says six months away will do him good IMO we wont see him play for Wigan again.
I bin wtchin `latics for 40 years and without doubt the hardest player ive seen ere is JORDI GOMEZ! ;)
Hard faced more like cos the man is stealing a living at our club
Yawn!
Come on James were’s your sense of humour
i dont understand what martinez is on about either and was sober as a judge sorry cant help.why was it the last game on anyway thought was a decent game bar the ref,he made some really strange decisions! He talks utter shoite to hide the fact he is clueless.
For me it has to be Graham Barrow hard as a coffin nail that mon.
R.I.P Nat
We are a third of the way through the transfer window and that will be halfway come Saturday and so the question is……Is there going to be any signings ? I aint heard anything apart from the Lopez freebie ! My main concern is the keeper situation, are we going to get Al Habsi ?We also need a striker if Bosselli leaves.
Why not Hodgson WITH Martinez ????????Would be a great idea, the master and the apprentice but it wont happen. Bob will no way accept someone coming into help or undermine him as he would see it.
For fook sake what do people want? In todays climate of mercinary players who dont give a flier bout anything else but themselves Mike Pollit stands out. Has he ever moaned or made demands? He has always behaved as you would expect a reserve keeper to. How many clubs can say that they have a brilliant back up goalie eh? I think we been blessed in that respect and tho Polly may not be the best keeper in the world he is certainly one of the best clubmen this team has ever had. The lad has done what he was paid to do and just gets on with it to the best of his ability. Mike Pollit goes down as a true Tic in my eyesSo does Andy Liddel but surely you don’t want him playing. Do you :o :o :o
I made the original post based on his ability to play in the Premier League at 38 not on him being an all round great guy.
This deserves to be bumped back up i think.Any Comment Hindley?
Well done Mike Pollitt.
Did very well in his brief role as substitute last night but I still don’t think he should be on the playing staff.
First things first – great bit of bravery from Kirky tonight and hopefully he’s all good. However, tonight must put to rest the Kirkland vs Pollitt debate and justify why Mike still deserves his contract.
I’ve lost count of the number of times Kirky has let goals in by falling backwards and letting balls fly through where his head and body would have been to stop them. Had he been up against Elmanader’s shot late on then they’d have defo had a second – full marks to Polly for staying almost vertical.
Pollit did well when he came on but surely a brief cameo does not as you say put to rest the Kirkland Pollit debate.
Kirkland for me.
After last seasons shambles of a performance there, I’ll give it a miss thanks. But Vat after the high standards we have set ourselves this year our performance will be awesome
you should do your research thoroughly into the subject before making a fool of yourself.
these are the actual points totals
2010/11 19 games 20 points
2009/10 19 games 19 points
2008/9 19 games 28 points – bruce pre the big sale
2007/8 19 games 16 points -hutchins(4pts bruce)
2006/07 19 games 22 points -jewell 2nd seasonmy point is
the only man who’s points total was slightly worse than martinez was sacked after 17 games despite the fact his team played better football than the rubbish served up now – he didnt get ousted out of both cup competitions, a 4-1 hammering from a championship side or 2 disgraceful murderings against a 3rd division side – he didnt get hammered 9-1, 8-0,5-0 twice or 4-0 against the team that was bottom all season
jewell suffered from second season syndrome and had lost much of his 1st. season squad.now you asked what my point was – i think i will ask again—— what improvements can you see ?
I’ll concede 2008/9, but your wrong on 2006/7, we still only had 19 points until February.

The point I was making is that the thing in common with these points at this stage (except this season, because who knows…) and the fact that we didn’t get relegated. So except for one season, we are no worse off, or even better off than the previous years survivals.
Some people have a vendetta against a representative of Wigan Athletic Football Club and other than a dislike for his ‘style’ can’t really come up with anything new to say other than insults. You see how I managed that without calling you names?
100% effort from every player, play your best team and play with passion and pride that is what I want and expect from my team. We will never be the best team in the league but if the players give everything and were still not good enough I can accept that.
But IMO we could be so much better with someone else in charge even with the current squad.I think that we are one of those looking at a loan move for Beckham. He would be a good acquisition for us as he can pick a pass, something we don’t seem to be able to do at key points. If it isn’t silly money, we should give it a shot.

The stats you quote are for newly promoted teams, not teams who have been in this league for the number of years we have. The official stats over the last 8 years say differently: http://www.transferleague.co.uk6 seasons in the premier league is an amazing achievement for a club that can only average 12,000 home fans FFS. Do some of you expect to be here in another 6 years when attendances are so low? You must be deluded!
We averaged a lot more than 12000 home fans until Bob became boss and bored everyone to death.
I still believe Martinez can keep us up.Granted, if we were to have lost against Wolves and Arsenal I would have wanted O’Neill at all costs.
McCarthy is back in 3 weeks.
Boyce back next week.
Moses back late Feb – early March. All of those players will help us a lot starting against Hull in the FA Cup when hopefully Boyce gets his 1st game since October.
We don’t even need N’Zogbia to stay up, we’ve beaten Spurs and ‘big’ Hartlepool without him …. why not Bolton, Hull and Fulham ?
As shown yesterday we have nothing without Charlie and if he goes in January we are well and truly fooked.
