Prepare yourselves for the latest version of the one up top illness that has infested our club since the day Jason Scotland graced our pitch
Yip it looks like we are falling for it again.
Other than that, good luck Cooky. We won’t hold our breath.
Another totally underwhelming appointment.
Will be there next season but many won’t be.
Such a shame.donny, Portsmouth scored a few last season so don’t be too hasty in judging this appointment. One up front is ok when used in the correct way, which our previous lot didn’t. Maybe you might be surprised?
I am not judging his appointment. He could be a good appointment. We have had eight seasons of our previous lot not using the lone striker in the correct way and eight seasons of mostly drab boring football. Can Cooky do with this type of football what Martinez, Coyle, Rosler, McKay, Caldwell, Yootha and Barrow didn’t do?
I hope so.
Not making excuses for previous managers, but were they given time to change things around? Some were dreadful appointments for sure,(coyle & yootha) but our manager merry go round is part of the problem.
I’m no lover of boring footy myself Donny but Cooks track record is pretty decent.

Really pleased with Cookies appointment, got a good feeling about this one or is it the Cava I’m drinking, either way I’m looking forward to next season.Cava? You celebrating the appointment snowblind..
This looks like a decent appointment with some logic behind it from young Sharpy. Quite looking forward to next season..
Bowyer would be my choice if he wasa, available
b, a candidate.Done a remarkable job at B,pool.
I’ve been impressed with Bowyer too Nuneaton. His record at Blackburn was good considering circumstances.
Don’t know much about Cook but his win ration is pretty good.Seem like good friendlies these, no glory ones just the level we’ll be playing at next season.
Only ground I’ve not been to is Southport so got to make that one this time.I’m in that hard-core who has been gang since we had 3000 at Springfield, but even I am, reluctantly, going to have to think about things.
It’s a shame, because when you support a club…it’s what you do. You go the game. But I’m just not sure the increase is worthy of how we are at the moment and how we stand as a club. I also think it madness the prices are out and yet no manager in place and a bit unsure what players we will still have. Or will we all fork out and then sell Powell and Morsy on the eve of the season? And replace them with frees from Oxford and Chesterfield, and an 18 year old loan from Leeds?Club is very slow at everything…except trying to get money off us. New kit? Not a dicky bird. Friendlies? Not a whisper. Other clubs think ahead so much better.
Are you going next season Dave, or what?
The suspense is killing me.
At this moment in time, I honestly don’t know. I think anybody with kids who doesn’t want to sit in south stand is being penalised.
To anybody calling me a moaner, I will say that if your some sad bastard with nowt in your life other than football, paying £300 for a ST isn’t bad at all. However, if you have a couple of kids you are having to buy for as well, and in total 2 adults and 2 kids and it’s coming to £800 it’s a different story.
I have no desire to sit in the south stand again, it’s dire and I’d rather not bother. It’s a shame, as it will be my 32nd year of watching Latics. If we do get one, it’ll be week before season and not being rushed into it. I would like to know our manager and squad before forking out that kind of money.
They should have just frozen the prices and avoided this. Never heard of a club putting prices up after relegation. We will have bad bad crowds next season, I am sure of that.
Sympathize with you VAT as i myself don’t want to sit in the South cos it’s dull. So will have to pay for the youngest too but a price increase was inevitable. Young Sharpy made a mistake reducing season ticket prices so much in the first place, he must have panicked i think.
But if he’d have frozen the price of them for the last 2years we’d be paying more or less what we are now which still aint too bad.It was a decent watch last night & good to see some of our old players. Even if some are looking old & filled out :P … Dutch lads looked in better shape, that monkau (apologies if spelt incorrectly) is a monster of a bloke.
Ps, hope the date went ok horc & LHL :P
Nathan Jones (Luton) is the bookies favourite for the next gaffer and after a quick Wikipedia search I can see that the job he’s done is very impressive, But what if Luton do get promoted … surely Mr Jones would keep with the Squad he has been able to assemble in the season and a half as manager instead of starting all over again …So who else is on the list
Michael Appleton
Alan Stubbs
Uwe Rosler
Gary Caldwell
Dougie Freedman
Karl Robinbson (who we should of gone for after Caldwell)Then at 25/1 is Mr Jerrel “Jimmy” Floyd Hasselbaink
I think the Wigan job is perfect for any ambitious manager. We proved last year that we are too good for league one and its only through several bad decisions at the top that we find ourselves in this position and back to square one, so a nearly certain guaranteed promotion from league one will look good on anyone’s CV.
Hasselbaink’s has the ambition to manage at the highest level, He took a big risk with the QPR job when at the time their board where going through managers like one of us lot going through a steak and ale covered in a healthy splashing of gravy … mmm.
But back to the point Hasselbaink plays attractive attacking football … something that we all would love to see from the stands and already has promotion experience in the lower leagues.
Don’t forget the man is a two time Premier League Golden Boot Winner … We can all see the potential Omar Bogle has and the experience Hasselbaink can pass on really could turn Omar into a real talent and a the same time get Grigg back on fire.
I’m sure he will still have connections at Chelsea so loan moves would be a great help next season.
He’s currently a free agent … the board will love that !
I’d love to see JFH take over as manager with Super Mario back at the club in a defensive coaching role.
Thoughts ?
Don’t agree with your comment about “attractive attacking football” 88. I seem to recall him being very defensive and counter attacking style. He used to beat us 1-0 all the time.
Not sure I’d want to watch that every week.Surely an appeal has to be lodged against Huddersfield the 3 points they gifted Blues has clearly affected the relegation places. Stinks the place out this. This happens most seasons Nuneaton watch Chelsea n Arsenal on the last week if everything’s sorted. Nothing will happen to Huddersfield just hope it back fires on them in the playoffs
Thought we played really well in first half, enjoyed it. Second half was more of the usual stuff, did we have a shot on target in second half?.
Their pen was a disgrace and thought the ref was going to book him for diving. Couldn’t believe he gave that and then didn’t give us one on Bogle????Will be an interesting summer to see who takes over the team and what players we are left with. Hope we don’t have another mass turnover of players.. get it all sorted sharpish so come August we have a team that has played a full pre season warm up together.
Well let’s hope we don’t have too many new signings. That’s part of our problem.
I’ll be ther Sunday and next seasonThere is only one man to take the helm. Only one man could possibly begin to sort out the HUGE mess that has been left now. Wigan Athletic can’t buy their way up next season so the players that are there and will be coming in need motivation. A man who isn’t afraid of what people think or try and dictate to him. That man is Roy Keane. There shouldn’t even be any other name in the frame. If The Latics want to survive then Keane needs appointing and given longevity.Interesting one that yosser…. but would be a mistake for me. His track record as a man manager isn’t good, Ipswich would vouch for that.
I’d like the bloke from Lincoln to get the jobAlong with his brother Tyldesley.. can’t say I’ve seen much of Lincoln City this season but their style impressed me in the FA Cup. Not a bad shout.
He bloody well should be!! He should of been there before the Forest game, I’m not liking the way things are being done at the club at the mo and the blame starts at the top and I’m probably Sharpies only fan.I think Barrow is going after the statement from Sharp about him taking over at a difficult time and the players playing for him YES ok but were still get beat every week rant over.Is there a list of speculative options, I ain’t seen much on this matter.
