Exactly. A 1-0 defeat to Chelsea can be built upon, whereas a 8-0 tonking would mean the players would be on a massive downer before the biggest game of the season.
And as for Mr on the Moon – just because I happen to like rugby doesnt mean I cant offer a logical and rational opinion on football, which I also happen to follow.
I imagine that is why I can post on here and you cant post on a rugby board. Grow up.
The game on Saturday is massive. Lose and Wigan will be at least 4 points from 17th place, and realistically 5 when you consider the goal difference.
Birmingham have a game against Sunderland, who have lost 7 of their last 8 games, and with Villa winning yesterday it would mean that Blackburn would be the closest, assuming they lose at Everton.Away to a side at the top of the league who had scored 14 goals in their previous two games against the Latics. Maybe he’d decided that this game was one where the best result he could get was a 1-0 defeat and to keep his goalscorers fresh for the next 6 games where the chances of getting 9+ points are much higher.
I would suggest that Bob is secretly chuffed that neither his key players nor his goal difference took any significant injury on Saturday.
Seeing as everyone has 7 or 8 games to go, then why is the fate of Wigan in their own hands, when its not for others?
I can imagine the Blackpool fans are looking at their upcoming games and picking three wins from their home games against Wigan, Stoke, Newcastle & Bolton. Similarly, Villa fans will think they can get enough points from home games with Newcastle, Stoke, Wigan and Liverpool. Despite their woeful run, Sunderland have 7 games remaining, of which most are against sides below them – I would imagine their fans are looking towards 15+ points from those fixtures.
With 21 points to play for, every position in the bottom half is in the hands of the clubs in that bottom half. The only thing I would say with some certainty is that it will not be done and dusted until the last kick of the season.
Out of interest and purely to even things out, what is the smallest crowd to have attended a competive sporting fixture at the DW/JJB?
They must of took over 6500 like Warrington did last week then
:naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:Strange how the visiting end holds 2000 more for a rugby match than it does for a football match. I thought rugby fans were twice the size of football fans!
I thought the North Stand held 5400, which was reduced to 4500 due to it being unreserved seating for Rugby matches, so I think your maths may be out, particularly when you consider that there were quite a few empty seats in the North Stand.
Secondly, granted Warrington brought around 4000 last Friday, but when you compare how many (few) they take to anywhere other than Wigan and St Helens, you’ll find that over the season, more Wiganers travel to away games than anyone else.
I note you dont dispute the bit about the Latics’ travelling support – however I’m surprised you didnt try to compare it to a to a trip to Bolton for Fulham to massage the statistics!
Any more freebies going for today?
I’m curious to how you have so many free tickets to give away….Have the ticket office taken to sticking a load in telephone boxes instead of the traditional “dial an escort” cards?
I believe a draw is like a lose in rugby? :lol:Not when you are 2pts down with the last kick of the game – a draw is a ‘kin awesome result.
Maybe tomorrow, if our landlords wigan athletic have a last-second penalty and equalise against Spuds, I’ll remind you of that quote Mr Fat fan. ;)
Seems like a good couple of thousand made it, judging by the amount of people jumping around on the terraces after that kick sailed over.
Not everyone travels away, especially when its on tv.
It is a fact that they have the largest number of travelling supporters to away games in their league.
Its also a fact that the Latics have the smallest number of travelling supporters in their league.Note from admin, surely fulham hold this title?
Get over it – there’s nowt you can do about it. Unless you can personally persuade another 2000 or so Latics fans to make a 20 mile trip to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester & Blackburn.we take a good following to blackburn!
2nd half wasnt that bad either!
My local garage has increased the price this week!
They got beaten by a better team on the night.
It was good to see another >20,000 crowd on the DW tonight.
Wake up about what that the attendences have shown a decline from the year 2005 since we got in the prem ?The sharp decline in the 2nd season was entirely down to a greedy chairman almost doubling the ticket prices. At that point, he lost the people who had jumped on the bandwagon. Despite the special offers, incentives and almost pitiful begging, those people will not come back as regulars because they fear that at the first sign of success, the club will hike the prices again.
Since that season, the club has been mediocre at best – hardly setting the world alight, so why would those alienated fans come back to a product that isnt exactly enticing?
Opposing rugby fans hate Wigan because they are the most successful Rugby League club.
Just as opposing football fans hated Leeds in the 70s, Liverpool in the 80s, Man Utd in the 90s, and latterly Chelsea.
The hate is borne from jealousy. Deep down they long to be as successful as the top dogs, and would love to be hated too.
