We will know soon enough whether he was right or not or whether we are good enough to go up or not!
After that performance – definitely not.
I hope we beat Blackpool then lose our last two and finish 6th (I can attend both rugby and football that weekend then) before winning the playoffs.Of course, whether we finish 5th or 6th everyone on here will ask to remain in the Championship and for Derby to be promoted as they finished 3rd and playoffs are rubbish right? ;)
personally i hope we stay in 5th place as i can attend the semi finals as i’m off work regardless whether we are home or away as long as we stay 5th, which i think one more win will secure. I’ve already booked the 23rd & 24th may off.
Just in case!!!!
We will know soon enough whether he was right or not or whether we are good enough to go up or not ! Either way I aint arsed as a part of me would rather stay here in the Championship!same here!!
I just think it is a little unfair on Burnley, they deserve to go up and have been better than us on the whole over the 2 games we played against them !
Fair play & congratulations to them on their promotion. But i too wonder if things would have been different if rosler had of come in at the start of the season rather than midway through.
Out of serious interest does anyone believe he could do a job at MUFC, or is it a step too far at this moment in time.
Burnley obviously deserve to be were they are in the league, however, they have had more than their fair share of luck with injuries, being able to field their strongest team all season. The first time injuries struck to their key players, the wins drastically reduced. [Ings and Vokes being the main crocks]
They have also scavenged a load of 1-0 wins in games that could have swung either way.
If only Uwe had been with us all season, I think Burnley may have had to be content with the play offs. :(
I disagree with the if only bit ! Burnley were 15 points clear of us when Uwe took over and 4 months down the line Burnley are 19 points ahead of us and have also taken 4 points off us! They ground out a good draw at ours and thoroughly deserved their win yesterday. With the squad he has had to work with Dyche deserves all the kudos being aimed at him at this moment!
To be fair to JR, i think his “if only” comment is referring to the fact that if uwe had been with us at the start of the season & therefore starting from scratch, it could have been us rather than burnley in the automatic spots. The fact that burnley have maintained the same points advantage over us from december indicates to me how consistent both teams have been since then.
Should have been given more time IMO. It took fergie 4 seasons before he started winning things, but i suppose this is the sad reflection of modern football.
Personally i’d have thought jewell would have topped best manager with 2 promotions & would have thought martinez would have featured somewhere in the top 5 players given that he was once voted our cult hero from a few years back. No surprise PC de zeuww at the top.
I was 22 at the time and was working at the Co Op Glass Works at Platt Bridge.I’ll never forget the Port Vale game. 3-0 down with 20 minutes to go. Ian MacNeils masterstroke in taking off a centre half Noel Ward and bringing on on Mickey Moore – I think.
Any road things changed dramatically after that and we took them apart and Pey Pod got a hat trick. “Good Friday??? It was Bloody Marvelous”.*
As for the prats who chucked their season tickets into the tunnel and left at half time ……………. some things never change do they?
* – Quote from The League At Last. I wish I still had my copy! :(
I remember going to the port vale & hartlepool games. I was only 7 at the time enjoying my first ever season as a latics mon/kid.
Well i have to work, infact im in work as we speak until 4.30pm tomorrow & wasnt alowed the time off work
At the moment we are one of the big spenders in the league with such a big squad and players in it. Once the pennies run out from the premiership we would be in trouble with our low fan base. So premiership is the aspiration. Also if we had no desire to end up in teh premiership, just surviving in the Championship, it would get dull.
Yay, we agree on something! ;)
Ideally, I would like us to be on a three-year cycle:
Year 1 – Promotion to the Premier
Year 2 – Consolidation in the Premier
Year 3 – Relegation to the Championship…… and back to Year 1.
Alternatively, I’d also be OK with a four-year cycle:
Year 1 – Promotion to the Premier
Year 2 – Consolidation in the Premier
Year 3 – Relegation to the Championship.
Year 4 – Championship play-offs but knocked out in the semi-final…… and back to Year 1.
Not too much to ask, is it?
I’d be quite happy with that myself TBH. I only mentioned something similar to this topuc to a LFC supporter in work the other day. I explained i would be more than happy being a yo-yo team, but your plan sounds good griff.
However, like the comments from the OP, i too am really enjoying this season. Just like the olden days of watching wigan.Paul Jewell fancies us
He fancies anything, him ;)
Wonder if he’ll make a video of it.
That’s not the point John.
We had a great chance to go to go above QPR and even 3rd if Derby had a poor night and we blew it.
Leicester aside there have been some poor performances recently.
Doesn’t really matter whether we go above derby, qpr or whoever, finishing 6th would do me.
Bring back pat gavin
I’m not going to the semi as i cant get time off work, but i’ve booked both the weekends of the final & play-off final……………………………..
Just in case!!!!!
