If Massey starts than that simply means no Lowe. Did we wait all that time and pay all that money for him to be back up to Massey.

Doesn’t matter how much time & money we spent etc, Massey is 1st choice IMO. Lowe at the moment is back up.

There were some positives to take from last nights game. I thought Lang worked really hard and never gave up. Jones Mulgrew and Dunkley played well but I thought Stirling struggled along with the lad from Wolves.
I personally think the right back position will be a thorn in Cooks side.
Is William’s a holding/defending midfielder ?. At times it looked like a back 5. He was sat far too deep to have any kind of an impact in the game plus he struggled fitness wise.
But that was a super strong side Stoke put out for an EFL game littered with multi million pound players. We probably had the hardest tie of the night so I’m quite happy with the overall performance.
Saturday will be one tough game but I’m sure if we match them for effort it will be a far closer game than most pundits see it.

Its interesting how we all see things differently. I thought the lad from wolves had a decent game. Lowe as well, but he’s pretty lightweight & was knocked off the ball a few times. I thought sterling did ok – but he ain’t no James sadly. Glad to see Massey back & he should start Saturday. I wondered if that is why he came off in order to be rested?

Lang worked hard, but really wasnt given any service. Jones was once again solid (bar one flap where it almost came out of his hands).

Overall it was a decent performance as you say. But their goal came from our usual flapping at set pieces.

And he has just gone and done it again tonight.

Well he did say he was going to do before the game.

Anyone with half a brain should know unsworth does not have a good management track record. Given a choice between unsworth or cook, I know who I would rather have.

Gotta agree with you big Roy, well said. At the end of the day it’s a business. Bringing in players on big wages ? not for me, DW let Bruce do that and it nearly sent us to the wall.
It wouldn’t have bothered me if we had er gone with Lang and some of the younger lads.
Cooks shittin it playing Lang, Weir or Gelhardt while Bolton played a side against Coventry that resembled a Youth Club side.
Millwall have signed 1 player, a keeper and they go to a Championship fav side and get a point. My point been, it’s down to the manager to get it right with what hes got at hand. Theyd all like Messi, Silva, Dyke, Kane but the truth of the matter is, we cant afford them and as the song goes that’s life.

No more excuses for me, Cook needs to gel these players and sharpish. He needs to stop been loyal to certain individuals and take a chance. Weaning players in ?, crock of sh1t that, they are players brought in to replace certain players that nearly took us down because some are simply not good enough for this League.

I looked at Gelhardt warming up and physically hes the spit of a young Wayne Rooney. I’m sure with 10-15 to go he’d give most of these ageing Chamionship defenders a fookin mare,

Not ready?, my fookin arse neither were the Bolton lads. Our young lads and the young loanees will be chomping at the bit after watching Saturdays shambles.

Brave up PC and lob them in you might just get a big surprise or you can stick with the likes Garner, Byrne, Kipre and the hot cold Windass and Jacobs and hope last year doesnt repeat itself.

I have to say I feel really sorry for Jamie Jones who hasnt put a foot wrong. For me, he should’ve started the season as our number one. I am not overly impressed with Marshall, that fumble against Cardiff was shocking. Is he being picked on past reputations and the fact he is an international? Jones shouldve been given a starting chance, and this shows a worrying trend of Cook. Picking players on reputations, rather than form. You shouldnt do that. Ever.

Time will tell what happens.
Gotta torally agree with you on that one. I think it’s different with keepers, its like no other position on the park and you kinda get a sense of what their about within the first couple of games and how they’ll shape up. For whatever reason, Marshall doesnt fill me with confidence.
Now if he’s sending that vibe out to me then how must the back four feel ?. Jones has done nothing wrong abit like MacManaman but Cook prefers to bypass Jones once again. That must be a sickener for Jones especially when you’ve play so well when called upon.

Were no Liverpol or Utd so I feel Jones should have been given the No1 jersey
and again, not many would disagree if he was bar Cook.

Another strange decision made by our manager and I’ve a feeling as the season unfolds theres gonna be fair few more mysterious eye popping selections coming our way.
I see Fox is now injured along with Pilkington both for the second time in their short time at Latics and were only 2 games in.

When signed I said both their injury CV’s read like War & Peace and been at the age they are it ain’t gonna get any better for them.
Pilkington had no club, and I wondered why we got Fox so easily from Forest. Can see why…..
Both are decent players when fit. Sadly, they are injured far too often. I agree with the pair of you regarding Jones. A very good keeper who marshals (if you excuse the pun) his defence a lot better than what Marshall seems to do. But, in Marshall’s defence (if you pardon the pun again), is it a case of a new keeper having to get used to a defence he isnt too familiar with just yet??

Donny
When have you ever been put down for “having an opinion” to such an extent that you didn’t post?
Can you name any poster who felt that way so much that they no longer post as a result. Someone who was so hurt by having their “opinion” challenged (which is what happens on football forums) that they went away sobbing that people didn’t agree with them. Or maybe people just thought sod it. I know I’ve often thought that.
This whole thread is about Griff et al (and I know for a fact he doesn’t need me to make the point). Surely he is then actually someone who has been put off posting here for whatever reason.

By the way where is Fillmoss and why is he not around anymore.
He tends to post a lot on the latics Facebook pages from what I’ve encountered.

in reply to: GRIFF #180287

Ok…opinions ….heres mine.If Cook continues to F@@@around unnecessarily then the axe needs grinding. He’s been backed financially so can be no more excuses. He has great cover in every position…

Cover in every position but second game in he didn’t use that tactic. He tinkered.
I agree with you. Apart from pilkington (due to injury), the team should have remained the same.

I like cook & from what I’ve read, he made the team watch last seasons game vs Preston all week over & over. On this occasion mr cook, I think it should have been YOU (cook I’m referring too) who should have watched the video time & again as you clearly haven’t learned any lessons. I hope the woeful away record ISNT going to continue.

Anyway, back to griff……

in reply to: Preston Inquest. #180265

Oh well! After last week is it back to cook out???

in reply to: Present squad #180240

As we speak, pilkington is out for a month. Up to Massey or Lowe to stake their place within the team.

in reply to: Present squad #180237
Anyone fancy naming the starting 11 for Saturday I ain’t got a clue.

Well in fairness grumps, it should be the same starting 11 that beat Cardiff. Dont change a winning team & all that. If cook does play the same team, it’s up to that 11 to fight in order to keep their places. What a fantastic headache cook now has this season.

Well done the Royles & IEC.

in reply to: Present squad #180226

Looks a very strong squad indeed!

in reply to: Transfer window #180217

This has been a great transfer window. A lot of folk bemoaned the royles & IEC, but fair play to them.

Vat, I’m really sorry to disagree with you. But what in your opinion constitutes as a big club. You raise some points in your post, but we are far from a big club.

We’re not even close to being a big club and as for the 13k home attendance there were probably 9,000 home fans tops.
I never said we are a big club, but we are not a small club either.

In fact, if you were to compare every club out of the Premier League, and Football League over the last 20 years, we would probably come in the top 30 clubs, judged on successes and achievements.

There are many clubs who would love to achieve what we have and what we are.

Dont judge us as small just because Wiganers are lazy fickle bastards who wont get behind their local club unless its on the brink of achievement. 13k on on Saturday, come May if we have a decisive game, another 10,000 will crawl out of the woodwork, we all know that.
I don’t know why you are getting so agitated about this VAT. If we are perceived to be a small club, whatever your definition of that may be, then so be it. Take pleasure in the fact we’ve provoked a Billy big bollocks club or, even better, one that think they are by spanking their bums.

We sing “Little Wigan taking the piss” FFS so it can’t be said we’re trying to change that perception.
Fair point that, Sammy. Better to boil the so called big clubs piss than be seen as a scalp ourselves, I suppose.

I think we are a great club, by the way. I just wish a few more Wiganers would buy into us and fill a few seats.
Me too! They’re too busy supporting man u, liverpool & the new latest craze – man city.

in reply to: The future could be bright… #180195

We lacked serious depth last season within the squad & it showed. This has been a brilliant transfer window.

Did we managed to sign another CB by any chance?

in reply to: Kieffer Moore bid accepted #180175

Not at all! We have a better, stronger & in depth team to really push on this season. I predict a boring mid – top half finish. You & your mate might not like that, but realistically, that is where we are as a club at the moment. I hope I’m wrong & we sneak into the play-offs or better. But just cant see it this season.
