I think Lostock Hall Latic is alluding towards the football played in those days. Much better and far easier on the eye than this horrible stuff we dish out nowadays.Aren’t you missing the middle sentence donny from your paragraph? In between “in those days” & “much better…”
“When we played 442”
Lots of sideways passing and the lack of anyone taking command in the centre circle made us look toothless and one dimensionalI actually agree with you there cupwinners. 2nd half especially. I saw loads of times when players were making runs down the flanks or onto space, only for whoever had the ball to stop & pass it sideways. I understand that the players dont want to lose possession, but sometimes you just gotta take a risk & be braver.
As for being one dimensional. We do lack that creativity in the middle, that one player who can hold the ball then do a defence splitting pass, a la senor Gomez.
VAT, everyone sat around me uttered the words “You stupid idiot,” or words to similar effect & as you say, even before the ref had even given it. It was a nailed on penalty & as I keep saying, a very stupid & needless one to give away.
We had a good start and looked comfortable then started to let them have opportunities at the back post with a spare man finding space. Then what looked like a con of a penalty (not seen it on tv so happy to be wrong). After that it wAs always going to be tough breaking them down as the sat and defended.
I had several frustrations;
Their play acting
Our unwillingness to run to the bye line and cross
The lack of urgency towards the end
Leon Clarke appearing to wear my boots instead of his own
Powell didn’t appear to know we were losing and had a very rusty game
On the positive side we came back to gain a point from a losing position and no one else gained any points on us, with millwall and Bolton losingClear penalty, no complaints. He pulled him back.
I think all that whisky has affected your eyesight Vat69.
I have watched that penalty award 3 or 4 times in slo mo and I’ll be buggered if Dunkley’s boot lace even touches their mon !
I saw it happen as it happened, he pulled their player back, by the arm, I think. We all saw it in ES6, and people in ES3 said they saw it too. It was clear, and unnecessary, as he was facing the corner flag and in the corner of the penalty area. Daft foul.
Please dont even ATTEMPT to claim it wasnt a penalty, it clearly was!
I hope no one brushes against you when your shopping m8 or you’ll be dusting yourself down every 5 minutes.
It’s a fookin contact sport he put an arm on him and as soon as he felt it his legs gave in like an hypnotist….”3-2-1 Sleep !!”.
Yes I agree, it is a contact sport. But I also reside in ES6 & the penalty was clear as day. Very stupid one to give away, which was also the opinion of everyone sat around me.
If you expect us to be in top half of this league with our budget and crowds I would fuck it off and watch another side as you’re only gonna be disappointed. We are miles behind the majority in terms of infrastructure and size and avoiding relegation will be a decent achievement in a league we have struggled to get to grips with the last two seasons we have been in it.Oh be careful bigroy. You might just get shot down for talking sense.
To call it a shambles is very harsh. It was certainly frustrating as we put ourselves under needless pressure thanks to one Mr dunkley giving away an absolute stupid penalty. Cue Ipswich putting 10 men behind the ball – no surprises there for the rest of the game & trying to catch us on the break. It also didn’t help when every Ipswich player who was “caught” went down as if he had been shot.
We upped the tempo in the 2nd half & had Clarke took his chances, we are possibly looking at a 2 or a 3 – 1 win. There was also one chance which springs to mind where windass was nailed on to score, only for Clarke to take it off his head. As it was, we scraped out a draw. Frustrating – absolutely! But as I said earlier, to call it a shambles is harsh.
I never understood the difference between a club & team captain in all honesty.
He reminds me of a modern day mark hilditch. Not the best of players we have ever had, but certainly a player who always gives 110% everytime he is called on.
It’s a good signing IMO. He can certainly provide our youth that are coming through with all his experience.

Perhaps those vandals have forgot that Mr Whelan helped them out in the past with his finances.
Helped them out??? That’s putting it mildly. He saved their very existence and gave them a ground to lodge in.
I was putting it mildly donny.

I wouldnt exactly say we sit back, although I’m not sure what we’ve done in away games as I’ve not been.
I think we lack that creativity at times, especially as we’ve missed Nick Powell, and until recently, Jacobs and Massey. I like how Morsy drives forward though.
Agree. We certainly don’t set out for a point but as games go on, things change and you have to change accordingly.
It became obvious 2nd half that they would be the more likely side to nick it so first things first we had to make sure we got a point but we still had Massey, Jacobs, Powell and Garner on at the end. We didnt take forwards off for defenders like Joyce would have done.
Agree egg! With 2 minutes remaining of injury time, my dad (who is usually one of the calmest supporters you’ll ever meet) was furious as to why we were just tippy tapping in our own half as opposed to going for it.
Myself on the other hand (who is usually the one screaming to go forward), could see the reason we were tip tapping. I explained that it’s probably best now at this stage of the game to hang on for a point, rather than attempt to go for it, do something stupid & end up losing the game.
I for one dont like James in midfield. I also like how morsy drives forward. And I also agree how we do lack a bit of creativity in midfield – a la senor Gomez.
Dross…..huff and puff with absolutely zero end product. Clarke !….well no better than 1st time round.Leading the line, never won a header, lay off or flick on. Is he really the best we could muster up ???…..Reading win,so did Bolton and on the evidence of the last 2 games it really will be a close shave as to which league we play in next season. Please can anyone really see any positives after that against a really poor Stoke side ???
I am sure some will Derek and you’ll get another blasting for having an opinion otherwise.
Likewise donny, those who dare to have a positive opinion on things.
For the record, the only positives last night was the return of Powell & Massey. With Jacob’s getting a few games under his belt now, we were just missing ***** up front to complete the 4.
Not as shite as Bolton, who lack the forwards we have, thats their downfall, and probably Ipswich’s as well, going off what I saw on Sunday. (They did cause Norwich problems though, played some neat football and threatened to wreck my bet, until Norwich scored two late on)We are shite, but potentially we can be better than shite. Its seeing out the season now and looking towards a summer of reassessing.
If we are better than Bolton & Ipswich, that means we need to be better than just 1 more team.
At this moment we are better than shite as there are 5 teams shiter than us & we have a 7 point gap over the team 3rd from bottom.
Once again. The aim this season was to stay up, then as you say, reassess during the summer & build on it so we can hopefully have a higher position next season.
