It would be interesting to hear Boyce’s view on the appointment as club captain and as a representative of those who may feel marginalised by Mackay’s comments. No doubt anything he says will be vetted by the club but it would be interesting nonetheless. His silence would speak volumes.
Well he re-tweeted the appointment and issued a letter through the club this week

Fair enough but re-tweeting it without comment doesn’t say anything or make his views any clearer.
Did you not read the letter? Boycey knew this shitestorm was coming and released that through the club the day before the appointment
The day before the appointment was made being the important issue here.
He doesn’t mention anything about Mackay being the new manager he is urging everyone to support.

exactly so he is a yorkshireman not a born wiganer so his comment is very funny about lisa :PNot sure how him happening to be born in Bradford when his mother was on a day trip there qualifies him as a Yorkshire man but I think you already know that.

Ha Ha check Whelan out, he has no boundaries and even less tact

I would understand this line if he was talking about rugby:
“I think it’s so important that somebody like the MP – she’s not a Wigan girl by the way, she was imported into Wigan from another area, she’s not a Wigan lass, so she doesn’t understand football.”
Straight from the Malky Mackay school of diplomacy.
They’ll get on well together, him and Dave!Prepare for the backlash.
“Three months after being exposed for his racist, sexist, homophobic and anti-semitic texts, shamed Mackay is handed return to football by Wigan”
Says the Daily Mail!!!
How dare you case aspersions over a fine upstanding publication….!
What’s the current situation regarding him and the FA? I understood he was reported to the FA back in August but I have not heard of any fines, suspensions or sanctions being imposed on him. Have they ruled on it or are they dragging their feet as usual?
Got told by member of coaching staff in first month of season that he had lost the dressing room as he was treating the players like kids. This was then repeated by previous Physio who stated players didn’t wanna play for him. Spoke to these guys regularly over last few years and have no reason not to believe them.
To be honest, that much is pretty obvious. Otherwise, how do you explain, for example, Sean Maloney playing a blinder for Scotland but looking a pile of crap when he has played for us.
Unfortunately, it’s a sad fact that players can decide not to perform for a particular manager if they want to. As well as a fact, it’s an absolute disgrace, in my opinion.
Respect works both ways. Bad management skills if that is true.
Shouldn’t be surprised his performance was so good, he was probably the freshest player on the pitch!
As time passes the enormity of what Wigan Athletic achieved that day in 2013 will begin to be realised.
Jewell, Hutchings, Bruce & Martinez. There was not too much recruitment involved in these and yes, Hutchings was a failure.
Coyle & Rosler were managers we went out to get.Either we have somebody with a connection to Whelan or the club lined up or the decision makers will need to have learnt the lessons when trying to recruit from the market.
Really? Didn’t we have to pay Swansea compensation?
You rarely sack a manager without having someone, or a few, sounded out.
The recruitment of the manager was easy. Martinez was Whelan’s No1 choice and he quickly knew that Martinez wanted to come. As Martinez said at the time “Wigan was the only club he would leave Swansea for”
The compensation was for the two clubs to negotiate, but the end result was inevitable once Martinez told Swansea he wanted to leave.
“Wigan was the only club he would leave Swansea for” was a nice sound bite from Martinez and questionable if he really meant it but what was the difference between the recruitment of say Bruce (second time around) and Rosler for example?
You’ll have to trust me….!
So let me get this right.
They appoint an American lawyer, Michael Garcia, to investigate corruption within FIFA who spends two years doing just that. FIFA refuse to publish this report – I wonder why – but instead get a German judge to review it and publish his take on it.
Garcia then says the report of his report contains “numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations” and FIFA expects everyone to accept this report as being a true and factual representation of the original report.
Nothing wrong with that then!
“Whelan backs Rosler”His fate was sealed :)
Always a good indicator of what is about to come.
