I agree we where not at the races and Fleetwood are up there being one of the worst sides I have seen at the Dw and I am not impressed with perkins can’t tackle and won’t try to tackle one point of the game he turned his back on Fleetwood coming forward
Are you confusing Perkins with another player?
In my opinion, he’s the by far the best signing we made over the summer.
Fleetwood are a decent side so I’m expecting a good test of our unbeaten home record. They have some good strikers including Declan McManus who is attracting interest from some Premiership clubs. He has however already stated – I don’t want to go to Chelsea.
2-1 -with a crowd of 8599
I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about and hope nothing befalls him before tomorrow that might prevent him playing.
But you never know. Accidents will happen.
2-0, 9,500
Does anyone think we should rest a few against Fleetwood and play a full strength side at Crewe. Surely a trip to Wembley would be of an higher priority than mid-table obscurity.
rest ? you are seriously taking the pish ?? they’ve only played a handful of games this season, there mostly under the age of 30, and they’ve been keeping fit since they were at schoolboy level unlike us lot, they have 3 days to recover ffs.
Yep , I can only imagine your boss saying after 8 weeks in the sun “You’ve been back a month now, you look a bit peakish, take the week off it will be busy next week oh and your on fully pay”
If they can’t play 2 games of football in 3 days there’s something wrong with them. That Wallcott pishes me off, he hasn’t played 90 minutes for nearly 12 months , the majority of them from the starting 11.
Lazy barstewards , get up, get out there , and give it all for the cause!! you get paid a fookin fortune so earn it for Christs sake.
I watched Newcastle last night away at West Ham and most of the Newcastle players didn’t give a flying hoot, they were more bothered about their hair than winning. It was like an M&M Direct catalogue than a football team
Unless your job is to compete physically against other equally trained athletes, then no, your boss will never say that.Modern football’s all about fine margins these days. Most players are at pretty much the same level, so it’s diet, rest, recovery, morale etc that can make the difference.
So if the coaching staff think a 100% fit donnys page is a better option than a 90% fit cup winners, donnys page will start and you’ll be on the bench.
Nothing to do with feeling a bit tired, and it’s not the player who makes the decision whether they play or no.
Sanchez at Arsenal , Ronaldo , Messi look at the games they play in a season. Look at the older Liverpool squads when they won everything. Everything these days has to have a tag or a name attached to it.When I was a young lad and ground working I had no “fine margins” I had to friggin dig till it were done or no pay 12 hr shifts, It’s all crap. Eat well, rest in between games I cant see why you can’t play twice a week for 12 month nevermind once a week for 8 month.
When groundworking becomes a multi-million pound spectator sport supported by hi-tech equipment and specialist medical staff, then I’ll agree with you.Does anyone think we should rest a few against Fleetwood and play a full strength side at Crewe. Surely a trip to Wembley would be of an higher priority than mid-table obscurity.

Not sure if Bradley is a Latics Mon but I heard he was a season ticket holder for The Cuckoos once.Bradley Wiggins is a big Wigan RL fan (Mutty knows this and was taking the p*ss)
He’s also made derogatory remarks about Wigan Ath in the past.
Still, his Wigan RL affiliation is to be expected I suppose. One sport riddled with performance enhancing drugs to another (allegedly).
Richard Ashcroft is a plastic Manc isn’t he?Yep. Man U fan.
Gutting isn’t it?We could have made a fortune selling him off last year ;)
Nah…he’d have been in the Development Squad – loaned out to Bentford with Rob Kiernan, then off on a gimme in the January 2015 fire sale.
I doubt very much that these monitors are worn out of football time so to speak!
You’re right. They don’t wear them after training.
Was talking to a former player in the Spa at Aspull, I asked him about the gadget on his back and he explained what it was. The first thing they do when they report for training is plug um into a laptop or similar that downloads the data for the period since the last training session.
The technology these days is unbelievable, I think that footballers are so finely tuned that it just needs one little blip and they could be out for weeks.
He must have forgotten to hand his in when he left the training ground! They are not used outside of football!
Says who? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I say outside of football I mean that they don’t monitor players away from training or actually playing unless of course there is some underlying heart condition that may need monitoring but that would be done via a doctor. It ain’t some ‘Big Brother’ device that tells his employers what he has been up to!!
An alarm goes off at the training ground when they rock up at Nandos or The Bubble Room in Alderley Edge.I doubt very much that these monitors are worn out of football time so to speak! You’re right. They don’t wear them after training.
Getting relagated 2 seasons don’t make em any world beaters.g c.we have give him a chance. But wheelbarrow I wudnt pay him in washersWhy not?
What exactly does he do that’s so terrible for him not to be paid?
Just to chuck my twopenneth in:Waghorn – he was a strange one. I never really knew what his best position was when he was at Latics. Not quick enough to be played out wide & didn’t seem to have enough movement or nouse to be a striker (& certainly not the right type to play up front on his todd). But he used to impress me when he came on as sub & per minutes on the pitch, his scoring record was good. That said whilst he impressed me when he came on as a sub, whenever he seemed to start a game I thought he disappointed. I always thought he was a very strange signing to be honest – at a time when the club was still hoping to go straight back up I never felt it made sense to get him permanently as there was no way in a million years that he is good enough for the top flight. It just seemed to be a signing that lacked ambition or was an acceptance that we wouldn’t get promoted & then on top of that Rosler never seemed to want to play him anyway but then that seemed to be par for the course with pretty much everyone he brought in
Tavernier – only getting to the odd game I didn’t see a great deal of him but the comments I got from other Latics fans weren’t particularly glowing with one contractor I know through work describing him as an absolute liability & incapable of defending. His last 2 loan periods look impressive on paper to a club in League One but looking at the period at Bristol City, he only started in 9 games out of the 22 Bristol City played from his arrival until the end of the season. Yes he contributed to their promotion every time he was called upon but when you don’t play any part whatsoever in 10 of 22 games its hardly integral or a guarantee that he’d have been a successful starter at Latics this season.
If I’m honest, I’d have liked to have seen both of them at this level to see how they’d have done for us as I thought they’d have done okay. That said I didn’t particularly shed any tears when they were sacrificed either coz the manager didn’t rate them or because it was felt their departure could fund replacements that would make the squad as a whole stronger (rightly or wrongly – only time will tell).
However the fact that both seem to be doing well at Rangers is no indication of how well they’d have done at Latics this term. Rangers & Hibs could probably both give most teams in this division a game (& beat them) but you can’t escape the fact that the rest of the division is a very poor standard. That’s not criticising those teams but when they only pull in 900-2000 crowds & where sponsorship & TV deals bring them buttons in comparison to England they will only be able to get lower quality players on a par with conference/lower league 2It’s not often I agree with you, that pretty much sums up my opinion too!
Perkins … joint MOM against Doncaster, with O’donnellEspinoza MOM at Wembley in THE FA CUP FINAL.
What? Ahead of McManaman, Maloney, McCarthy and Robles? No chance.
Headless chicken was what the landlord of my local called him, he’s a Blackpool fan by the way! Said he will run all day long but when he does get the ball he will invariably give it away! God loves a trier though eh!
He doesn’t move fast enough to be classed as a chicken..
Espinoza was a headless chicken, this fella isn’t in the same bracket as him. As someone else posted, he always wants the ball, doesn’t shy away from wanting it so is more noticeable through the game. First game I’ve seen him so should have a better idea after half a dozen.
You’ve watched his worst game for us by all accounts.Man of the Match in his first two games, and played well last Wednesday.
In the three matches I have seen him in for us he has played really well. Quite a while since someone played in that grafter style for us. Probably Michael Brown or Lee Catermole.
Exactly the comparison I made the other night
I think he’s more Cattermole than Brown, because he can pass more than two yards and to someone in the same coloured shirt.Well what a difference a striker makes. Well two actually.
Perkins MOTM in his Kavanagh Sheridan Brown Bradshaw Cattermole role bossing midfield. Davies looked the part in the partnership with Grigg and hopefully they can stay in that role together.
All together a very positive attacking performance. Just wondering if Gary has lost Bobs number and gave Paul Jewell a ring. Whatever a very Jewell like performance which also contained some lovely passing moves.
Hope that we see the same set up and side on Saturday. Well done tonight GC and the boys.Sorry to disdagree yet again Donny, but it was f’ck all like a Paul Jewell performance other than playing with 2 recognised strikers.
They kept the ball on the floor for a majority of the time, and it was more like the way we played during ‘the Great Escape’ under Martinez.
Just my opinion, obviously (before anyone gets upset that I’m disagreeing with people)
