People stand entitled to their opinion, I being one of them and it will be the first time in 30 years, through the thick and thin (some of you ex scouser/mancs commenting won’t know what that is will you?) including a season ticket when Kenny Swain was in charge, that I will feel the need to voice my opinion through not walking through those turnstiles.
All of the good feeling from the end of last season and looking forward to everything this one brings bolloxed in one horrible managerial appointment.
Gutted tbh.
I’m intrigued.
Why do you hate him so much? What has he done to you or Wiganers in general to make you not want to renew your season ticket?
I think I’ve made my point clear and my reasons.I completely dislike the fella and him being ex-Bolton is just an aside.
Live by what I said. I won’t go while he’s there simple as that and I’ve been going for 30 years through thick and thin but this one has bent me over and dry bummed me.
With all due respect, if you’ve been going for 30 years and are now refusing to go because Owen Coyle is manager, that’s just a little bit pathetic.
So if we get promoted at the end of the season, will you still refuse to go?
Some of the quotes on here are laughable, as if he’s the only mon ever to take a club out of the Championship.Ex-England manager, 2nd in command at United, European success story or
Blithering, spitting, snarling jocky noblot?Plenty fish in the sea, this ones not even a trout.
FFS WIGAN GET A GRIP
Is it the Bolton connection that you dislike?
We’ve had plenty of ex-Bolton players and an ex-Bolton manager in the past.
At the end of the day, we don’t know what goes on in these behind closed doors meetings, and decisions may be made on the managers’ expectations, demands, or what the applicants’ ambitions are.And no, he’s not the only manager to get a team promoted from the Championship, but he probably the only who applied for the job who got a team promoted from the Championship.
Does anyone find themselves completely underwhelmed by the candidates , what ever our differences on Martinez at least it was a roller coaster of excitment massive highs and desperate lows, perhaps we need some down to earth realism and a steadier ship, but the only thing that springs to mind with is its going to be ever so dull after the past 4 years.Sadly, I agree with you!
I see steady times ahead.
Christ, this forum is going to get boring with nothing to argue about.
Why ?Just an inkling.
I’m now starting to think Coyle might have got it.
Five best ( or at least the ones that impressed me most) players I’ve seen live:
Zidane, Henry, Giggs, Beardsley, Cantona
the problem they have is they don’t get the income from the SLP/TV rights that we have had, and that is why they in dire straights.
It seems to me “the problem” they have has got nothing to do with income but everything to do with living beyond their means, which is something Wigan Athletic, Whelan if you like, has been careful to avoid.
Its everything to do with income, as I said 250 million plus from the premier league helps.
Imagine how we would have competed with the clubs that get massive income via gate and sponsorship without the premier league income, that is what Hearts and all other Scots clubs have to do to compete with Celtic, even Rangers could not manage it on 20k less gates per week than Celtic.
Its no coincidence that all the medium/small clubs in the Spanish and Italian leagues are on their arses.
But the Scottish clubs don’t have to try and compete with Celtic, nor do the Spanish clubs have to compete with Barca or Real. Those clubs run away with it season after season.
The smaller/medium sized clubd merely need to compete with the clubs around them. So if one starts to spend irresponsibly, they all do it? It’s just poor management.
£250 + million income from the premier league has helped somewhat.
Maybe so LMB, but you have to credit Mr Whelan for getting us to a position where we could get that income.
If you read the link you may see that just as much has been invested by previous owners in Hearts, the problem they have is they don’t get the income from the SLP/TV rights that we have had, and that is why they in dire straights.
Stop being so defensive not one WAFC fan disputes that without Whelan we would not have been on this journey.
I disagree. There are many WAFC supporters who choose to turn a blind eye to the fact he saved the club as it gets in the way of their criticisms of him.
Although, I tend to think those who do so have a personal dislike for the man or simply don’t know anything about a pre-2004 Wigan Athletic.
And for the record I wasn’t accusing you of not giving Whelan credit. The word ‘you’ in my post could have been substituted for the word ‘one’.

He became the bookies’ favourite because Joe Public is backing him.
Most of the people placing these bets have as much influence or inside knowledge as me or you as to who will get the job.
Re Henriquez jibe, I just thought that at a time when we needed points he could have been utilised because the the other options were not really firing on all 4 cylinders ! Having Cleverley on loan clearly aided his development ( We will have to watch this space re Robles )and I hope that Utd will offer him to us again but this time with the promise of some match time and with Coyle’s previous help with the aforementioned duo it could just sway them ! The more I think about Coyle stepping up to the plate, the more I like the idea ! :)He certainly got Burnley promoted and had them playing decent football.
The only thing that puts me off him is the criticism he gets from some of my Bolton supporting mates.
I’d still have him over Bruce.
I don’t accept coppers ! I tell them that if it has come to coppering up then they can keep them as they probably need them more than I do ! Any shortfalls are however added to the next clean ! :)
Talking of coppering up, do you fancy saving your pennies for this: http://www.indietracks.co.uk/%5B/quote%5D
I have a few weekends away strategically booked and what with my week in Austin I don’t think that Shona would be too pleased with yet another disappearing act ! Remind Nicola to phone her re ‘Tropic’ ;)
I’ll remind her tonight. A couple of her mates are showing an interest too.Looks a nice place, UNESCO world heritage site and like you say close to Porto and Braga.
Saying that probably not the ideal place to hang up a ‘Ashton Goons On Tour’ flagI’m already shuddering at the thought of what we’ll see/hear on some of these trips: ‘You’re just a town full of (insert insult here)’
That sounds like we’ll be drawn in a pot with Freiburg and Guimares which is a bit of a pisser tbh
Saying that I’d take Bordeaux and Valencia for away days any day of the week
No – we’ll probably be in a pot with them, which means we won’t play them. We’ll play one of the top 12 at least.
Yes that’s what I said
My point being I wouldn’t mind going to Freiburg or Guimares
I’ve been to Guimares. Not much there, but Porto is an hour away it’s a fantastic city. -
