JayT which joke, I think I saw something the other day about the villa strikerforce being gary glitters paradise if Houllier signs keane. Young, Bent and Keane.
Was on talksport this morning. Thinks panic buys are wrong. I think if we sign anyone it will be a foreign striker signing on loan. We have gone through most of the season without Moses or McCarthy and therefore those 2 will be like new signings.
We need a link man in midfield who can pick a pass. At the beginning of the season it was McCarthy who was being asked to get further forward. I’m not to sure of his attacking quality but I know Watson is no attacking midfielder to link up play.
Firstly fantastic post about time someone came out and came up with something constructive.
Agree totally I think this lack of positivity in going forward has been caused by some of the maulings we received last season and the beginning of this. I think the major issue with it is confidence. Against Wolves we started abit flat footed at but when we got going, funnily enough after Henry was sent off, we looked a good attacking team and Gomez came into his own. I think we are always wary of conceding and so do not want to over commit, which in the formation we have with just one out and out striker kills us. We need midfielders bursting forward and supporting Hugo.
One final point is just when we play well we move at pace the ball is knocked about with intent. We seem to struggle when we have time on the ball to think. We don’t seem to have someone to pick a pass in the centre of midfield when the play dips so we create space better when its one touch stuff and the ball is zipped about.
Thought he was at top of the food chain in harrods Bruce…. seems he is not!
Vat I think we all are but I don’t think sacking Bobby is the way forward. Our team without McCarthy, Moses, Cleverley is similar to Liverpool being without Gerrard Torres and Meireles (how bad is the liverpool squad). Only we are Wigan and we don’t have a squad full of world class players waiting in the wings and thinking about it neither do liverpool but you get my point.
Not saying the first team are playing well but have you been down and seen the reserves lately? They play some fantastic stuff.
For starters I don’t think Sam would be effective here, we do not have the players for his system. But honestly, from what my mate (a bolton fan) and from speaking to blackburn fans, they thought his style of play was horrible. I remember after the game against blackburn last season members on this site where saying thank god we don’t have to watch that week in week out.
I like every other tics fan is getting frustrated, newcastle and fulham at home should have accumulated to 4 points at least and yet we play as poorly as i have seen us and leave with 1 point. We did the same last year and found some big results which kept us in the league. It is not over yet, not by a long shot and I think that some of the fans on this site must remember who Bob is. He is one of us! /he has had to deal with some dreadful injuries/suspensions and we have missed key players in key fixtures. EG: McCarthy has missed most of the season, Moses will be out for up to 3 months, Hugo and Alcaraz both missed the massive game at West Ham. Cleverley was out against Fulham (I think we really missed him by the way.)
Sacking Bob is NOT the way forward. He has restructured our club for the better. He has removed big earners from the wage bill and made the club more financially stable. (Although Boselli has been a flop and the sooner he goes the better to be honest.) He and all the coaches have got all the players at Wigan Athletic playing football, although he is not the manager of the youth team or reserves we have seen a considerable change in results and improvement in the young players which I would put down to Bob and his team.
No one witness the oscar performance from Duff with that shocking attempt at a dive in the second half. Why wasn’t he booked?
Overall the referee was poor, and to think he was probably in a better position than the linesman for the handball, yet it was up to him to give the decision. Really bad refereeing today. The amount of times our defenders where judged to have fouled their attackers was unreal, with Hangeland and Hughes doing the same.
Big chance to drag Fulham right into the fight and to get ourselves higher up the table. A good turnout is on the cards according to the club and hopefully we will have 3 points.
Although i do not believe we would be certainties to go down, we would need to pick up some decent away results to have any chance of staying in the league. We should not even think about selling Hugo. He scores the majority of our goals and I would not contemplate selling him.
Figueroa is totally different however. Although I rate him, he is sometimes exposed defensively. Attacking wise, he doesn’t usually join in but when he does he looks a very good player.
Being a student student law at University and wanting to get into this area of law, the transfer windows are aninteresting period.
However, the transfer window just brings instability to the players. The mere mention of a players name unsettles a player when a manager is asked about the possibility of them signing for the club.
It is exciting to look at the players linked with clubs and it has become a day in most mens calendar to sit and watch transfer dealings happen in January. Sky is the biggest culprit for unsettling players and managers. Do you remember earlier in the season with Holloway reporting that he had resigned. BThe rise in 20 years is staggering, but when you have been away and seen some of the crowds generated and then we have a big game against Arsenal and 17,000 attend its not very good.
I have seen quite a bit more advertising on the Wigan Athletic fans sites since the thread has been made. My dad has seen a few adverts in Leigh. Hope there is a decent gate on saturday I’ve done my bit got 4 of my mates who used to go in Div 2 days to come along.
I’ll second this. The club seems to target fans already at the stadium, where the vast majority have got a season ticket or are regulars at the DW. Would like to see the offers being shown in the town centre pushing through the offers.
I saw the game last night and he did play well but is he any improvement on Di Santo, Hugo or Moses… I would have to say no. Espanyol are in financial trouble and are openly looking to sell players. We have been linked with a few players from there team, it isn’t necessarily hard evidence but the Martinez links in Spain I hope would count for something.
