I’ve never got why this is the case…did she not know you were a footie fan til after you dragged her up the aisle (or down the register office or whatever….)?

Since when has logic ever dictated how a woman acts????

I told my now wife within a couple of weeks of meeting (we met during the close season between the Championship promotion & the Chelsea game) that Saturday’s are my football day & always will be – likewise the odd midweek day too. “Okay that’s fine” said she.

Doesn’t stop her whinging when I go & “leave her” on match day (watching or reffing). I think she & her ilk think that as you become more committed, get married, have kids & all that, that you’ll realise where your priorities lie. The problem for her is that I’m well aware where they lie!!! ;) :P
For instance I’m presently getting grief as she’s having to take most of the half-term as leave to look after our daughter coz I didn’t have enough spare yet I found enough to book 3 days to go to Maribor. My statement that she was the one, the day after the cup final, who told me that I’d have to do “at least one European game” doesn’t seem to wash
The woman of the species is indeed a strange beast

As a keeper coming out in a situation like that you have 2 choices:
1) To go out to the ball as LMB suggests in his original post
2) To go out to the ball in the way that Peter Schmeichel pioneered which I think was developed from his time as a Handball keeper

The problem with the first option is that it makes it much easier for the attacker to score as you’re giving them much more of the goal to aim at. The problem with the second option is that once you’ve committed, unless you make really godo contact with the ball, you are going to clatter the attacker & the momentum of your legs is likely to carry on in the manner that Carson’s did.
The mistake IMO wasn’t that he chose the wrong option when going to close Gosling down but that he misjudged the bounce of the ball slightly meaning that he went over the ball & connected with the man first. For me that would just as likely have happened had he gone in side on & he would also then still have caught Gosling & given away a penalty.
He adopted the same approach for Ince’s chance later on & made a great block. had he gone in side on I think Ince would have scored

In my pre-marriage & kids days, I used to hate St Patrick’s Day falling on a Friday or Saturday night when i was out with my mates. Quite aside from the afore mentioned idiots in stupid hats all pretending that they’re Irish, it takes an ice age to get served at the bar coz they’re all supping Guinness & it takes about 4 times as long to pour as an ordinary beer.

Guy Fawkes night used to be $h!t hot in my school going years (up to 1991). Every group of mates with their own bonfire, nicking stuff from other people’s, then a few joining together & making the mother of all bonny’s & your own firework display of which about 50% were duds. The fire brigade were never big fans of it for some reason, then around the early 90’s people started to moan about the environment & it was finally killed off by Health & Safety and insurance companies refusing to ensure some of the big uns you used to get at rugby clubs & such like. A great British tradition killed & relegated to firework displays which coz you don’t burn a Guy on top of a great big fire, no kids ask what its all about

Halloween was nowt when I was a kid. Trick or treating was forbidden from my parents (& those of all my mates) coz it was “begging”. A few used to do it but not many & the tricks normally involved some mid-teens lobbing a couple of bangers at some old bloked house who’d come out effin & jeffin at em. There was certainly nowt in the shops about it. I blame satellite/cable TV & the availability of all the US kids channels where it’s shown as a massive thing.

As for mother’s & father’s day – a couple of years ago I saw posters advertising “Grandparents Day” cards & presents in Clinton’s & St Helens a couple of years ago. Thankfully now I’m a father that one seems to have died a death

Oh & being an atheist, Crimbo disappeared as a celebration for me when I moved out of my folk’s place. No decorations, trees or nowt in my flat. That’s proving harder to get rid of & winds my catholic wife up no end when I fail to get all giddy about “putting up the tree” & planning to spend a small fortune on presents for all & sundry. The missus doesn’t take to kindly to me mentioning that all the Xmas stuff she insists we fork out for like the tree, decorations, mistletoe etc.. & even freakin Father Xmas are all Pagan symbols & really should have no place in a Christian celebration. It grates that I get dragged out of bed on the day itself to spend an hour in some cold church somewhere from 9am coz she wants to have a family tradition, but at least that has some relevance to the holiday itself. For me however it just represents 2 free weeks off work every year & having to buy new keks for the sudden expanding of my waistline

No longer letting people on waiting list !

…it just gets better

That suggests we are a lot of tickets short of what we need

How exactly do you “prove” travel details if you rang up for a ticket?

“Proof” of travel details to me means handing over an invoice with your details on it! Which is what I had in my hand yesterday. Which was not asked for to put me on the waiting list.

So I’m on the waiting list without proving travel, presume others will be as well.

Bottom line in this debacle is the club totally underestimated the demand for tickets and did not put measures in place to reflect that.
The tickets could have been reserved pending receipt of travel details which could easily be provided by e-mail, fax or in person within a (for example) 2 week time frame
With underestimating demand, it would appear so!!

in reply to: club statement to help supporters !..if only ! #122329

You should have added that:

“by adding your name to this list & us making a request for additional tickets from NK Maribor, there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that any more tickets will be forthcoming. Other clubs have made similar requests from NK Maribor in recent years and not received any further tickets. In light of this therefore we urge fans not to pay in full (or with a deposit) any travel & accomodation arrangements until they have been able to purchase a match ticket”

Just that your “statement” is very open & could give encouragement to people to book as further tickets may well be forthcoming

in reply to: Maribor Match Tickets #122328

They are additional to the allocation of standard tickets – and that’s fact.

Putting my pedantic hat on, I can no more take your word of that as “fact” than I can take the word of the poster who said only around 300 tickets went on open sale   ;)
I believe that it’s true & you probably know someone at the club who has told you this but it would help to stop people throwing accusations at the club if they stated clearly that the 150 VIP tickets were an additional amount
I think the club should also have announced this package in advance as the timing of the announcement stinks however well intentioned it may be
The club website states that 642 went on sale to season ticket holders and that a further 150 went on sale as part of the VIP package.

Here:http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/13-10-15-maribor-sells-out-in-an-hour-1114890.aspx%5B/quote%5D

That’s fair enough & I’d seen that yesterday but to the already suspicious it seems odd that these have not been offered for any of the other games in this manner.
Again a statement along the lines of what Standish has put in terms of wher these are & therefore the need for strict vetting of who they go to would have been better than – “We’ve sold all the tickets but there are 150 if you wanna give us £495”

For what it’s worth I don’t think the club have done much wrong. I don’t know how the phone system works & that may not have been their fault.
They should possibly have also requested proof as to travel details in order to ensure that the generally accepted way of ST holders etc getting first dabs wouldn’t be circumvented by people without ST’s getting ST holders to get em tickets by just quoting their (the non-ST holders) travel details

Go on, you caught me out there. I’ve made it all up…or maybe I was talking to the temporary second assistant groundsman and he gave me the info.

(It’s not like you to be pedantic is it? ;) )

All clubs who play in European competitions get the option of an allocation of VIP/Exec seats and this is precisely what these ticket are.

And yes, the club could have timed it better, and then there wouldn’t be a need to explain where the tickets came from.

But they didn’t and whatever action they take now will p1ss someone off down the line.

You see!! I know that temporary second assistant groundsman too & he’s always talking b0ll0x!! ;) ;)
The thing is though, as is obvious by this thread, some people have very suspicious minds & you saying something is fact isn’t gonna prove that its fact unless the club confirm it unfortunately
Plenty of people have posted stuff on this thread as “fact” when it’s a load of rubbish – just on this occasion I believe you for once!! :P

It clearly isn’t irrefutable, but nor is their defence and assumption that she was abducted – based on a couple of sketchy stories from people claiming to have seen a man carrying child.

The behavioural focus is his article doesn’t stand up alone – as people do behave differently, but it is relevant when combined with the other ‘evidence’.

Until something is proven, it’s all just opinions – and I happen to have formed mine some time ago.

To be fair, if the parents story is true then the other 2 options that I can see is that Madeline either wandered off or was abducted. If she’d got out of the apartment it’s likely that she’d have either been found & taken back, had an accident & died or been abducted by someone on the street.
Regardless of how patchy their story is or how some things seem not to stand up, abduction is one of the 3 most likely scenarios
I agree that it’s all just opinions but the behavioural focus of his article doesn’t stand up at all & it forms a big prop of his theory. Take it away & their argument starts to crumble
Same thing with the dogs – they don’t always find something & they aren’t always correct but the author ignores this coz it doesn’t support his argument
And like I said he doesn’t provide any explanation of where the McCann’s could have hidden Madeline’s body out of sight, sound & smell of search teams for 3 weeks before putting her in the boot of a hire car.
Same with the inference of Kate McCann not answering the questions put to her in the formal police interview. He dismisses it as somet like “I know there was a lawyer present & giving advice but still.. surely she would have wanted to help the investigation & he didn’t.” It’s pretty certain the lawyer would have virtually insisted she answer nothing & if she had nothing to do with the disappearance (other than leaving the child unsupervised) then answering all those questions wouldn’t have helped one jot anyway
There’s just as many holes in his argument when you dig into it as there are in the McCann’s

I don’t have any opinion on what i think might have happened, only on what I know happened – I’ve done jury service about 10 years ago & there’s no way that I could convict someone based on what this journalist puts up here.

[I must hold my hands up and say that was a cock up on my part, I realised well after I had posted it that it could/would be open to abuse

To be fair LMB the whole “just state your travel details” system was open to abuse as they weren’t asking for proof.
The people who stated your package who aren’t on it would probably have stated it anyway, or the easyjet flight to Ljubljana, or the flights to elsewhere

I would doubt anyone thought we would get more than the 642 initially but actually on open sale yeterday there weren’t that many, as stated elsewhere. I doubt the club could have done anything more initially about the amount of tickets we got.

In terms of being out of pocket by booking early, you would have been more out of pocket than a £95 deposit, if you’d have waited till now for an easyjet/lufthansa flight or the day return had been full.

To be fair you have no idea how many went on open sale yesterday. Some poster has put “x” amount were given to suchabody, “x” amount to someone else & 300 (or whatever they put) on open sale. They have no idea how many went on open sale either & their figures are just plucked out of thin air so I wouldn’t go off that.
A friend of mine went down to the ticket office at 8am yesterday & had his tickets by 10am
It is easily possible to sell 642 tickets in an hour & 15 minutes to those there in person & those on the phone

Yes it would cost you more waiting until now to sort travel arrangements than paying a £95 deposit but you would be paying that money knowing you were going to get in the ground & watch the game, as opposed to forking out £95 & watching it on the telly in your house – that is what i meant by being out of pocket

The 48 questions Kate McCann wouldn’t answer – and the one she did.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1041635/The-48-questions-Kate-McCann-wouldnt-answer–did.html

I formed my own opinion on this a long time ago.

Have you read this one? http://www.cwporter.com/mccann.htm

Warning: this article investigates why the writer believes she was not abducted. If it’ll offend you, don’t read it.
There are some inconsistencies in the story & some unanswered questions but from teh three quarters of this article I managed to read yesterday, the author is basing way too many things on the behaviour of the parents in the immediate aftermath i.e. why would she do that? Why didn’t she do this? Why did she say that & not this? Why is his version a bit different to this other blokes etc… therefore she wasn’t abducted
That ignores the fact that if the official version is correct, both parents would have been in a blind panic & not acting calmly & rationally. Different people react to different situations in different ways & certainly don’t act how an impartial observer looking at it some time later thinks they would have reacted.
Likewise it’s well known fact that different people witnessing the same event will give differing versions of what took place – i remember the coppers coming into my school & during the talk, someone barging in doing some role play of being a mugger & then they asked us all to write statements. Not one was the same & people had the bloke with different coloured hair, different coloured clothing, different height & all sorts.
One thing that the author completely overlooks (or I may have completely misunderstood) is the blood/smell of death etc.. in the hire car. The car was hired 3 weeks after Madeline went missing if I’m not mistaken. Given that the police were swarming around that area, complete with sniffer dogs etc.. where on earth do they propose that her body was stashed for 3 weeks?
IMO if the “evidence” is as irrefutable as this author says then they would have been charged. despite 2 national police forces looking at it, they haven’t been.

The only known “facts” are that the parents left 3 children under the age of 4 unsupervised in a holiday apartment whilst they went otu eating & drinking & 1 of those children disappeared

Jay – based on Zulte, how on earth did the club not anticipate demand? And if the club had done everything they could then how do you explain the phones and the shonky travel details policy??

Sorry but there’s no way that the club could have anticipated the demand based purely on the Zulte game.
Yes we took 2500 to that but that wass to northern Belgium which someone could drive themselves to there & back in under a day. It’s likely that most who were looking to go to any Europa away games would have said “I’m gonna go to one” (all my mates did) & so chosen the cheapeast, easiest & nearest.
Maribor is a heck of a long way further & into eastern europe, meaning more time off work & more cost & so they would expect demand to be somewhat lower – which it no doubt is.
No doubt they would have looked at the info on various Latics fans websites & seen that there are still places available on both the fan organised trips & thought that was indicative of demand.
They had/have no way whatsoever of knowing how many people have independently booked on flights to Ljubljana, Graz, Zagreb, Venice & various other places.

In hindsight maybe the club could have asked for us to register an interest with them in advance for tickets for this game & put a different system for purchasing them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though

in reply to: Maribor Match Tickets #122302

Something went wrong with the phone system yesterday & i can understand those who got caught up in that being miffed at missing out on a ticket. The club should apologise for that – whether they could offer any of them any of the 150 VIP tickets is open to debate as it’d just lead to a flood of people claiming it affected them & I suspect demand would again outstrip supply.

In fairness to the club, the official advice given to us supporters shortly after the draw was for people not to book & pay for any flights, hotels etc.. (& presumanly book leave at work) until the club was able to confirm ticket & travel details, locations, kick off times etc..
Had people followed that advice (I didn’t & knew the risks) they wouldn’t now be out of pocket if they haven’t got a match ticket. Yes the club was asking for this info yesterday before releasing tickets but I know from a friend who phoned the ticket office on Monday that if you hadn’t booked anything (coz you were waiting to find if you got a ticket), they would take your planned itinerary as a kind of deposit & release the tickets to you when you confirmed that these had been booked. Again, following this route no-one would have been out of pocket.
The big problem with asking for these details (either those already booked or planned travel) is that the club had absolutely no way of checking these details (other than knowing how many seats were available on various flights to various destinations on certain days) & so really you could have told them any old bumpf. To get round that the club could have asked for proof but some people would have complained about that.

The club can’t be blamed coz they only got given 642 tickets &/or the fact that it seems some people took a post on here that we’d get as many tickets as we wanted as gospel even though that poster stated that this had not been confirmed officially. I do think though that when they put the selling system in place they had no idea how high the demand would be for tickets.

The timing of the VIP package announcement stinks a bit as I said yesterday coz it does look a bit like “All tickets have gone but if you’re desperate we’ve got 150 more but you’ll have to chuck £500 our way to get em”. That said, people are jumping to an assumption that this 150 has come off the 642 total when in actual fact, nobody knows this for certain & they are just as likely to have been an additional amount

in reply to: Maribor Match Tickets #122237
Agree its been handled very badly , again .

However , more tickets are being negotiated and will eventually go on sale to anyone needing one

maribor wont want empty seats and the police wont want supporters travelling without tickets .

The plus point here is its still a way off with plenty of time to accommodate everybody’s needs

Judging from how their ground looked against Rubin Kazan and where the empty bits were, I would imagine that if home demand for tickets doesn’t increase substantially then it wouldn’t appear to be any problem to give Latics an entire end without pissing any home supporters off.
It does however still leave people hanging about for god knows how long with people chasing em for the remainder of their package costs whilst they still don ‘t know for sure whether they will get a match ticket.
That’s not Latics fault though & it’s only right that Maribor see if they can sell em to home supporters first. That will probably also be why the tickets have gone on sale so early.

Agreed though that Latics seem to have made a right mess of selling the tickets. & I still think the VIP ticket release timed when it was stinks
