I think it was another player ( surname that sounds like a grimy Cumbrian town) that allegedly offered to have a one to one private ‘meeting’ On the field near springy.
I thought he came across as quite cocky and full of himself at that evening event 8 years ago and seemed that when he was at the club also in my view.
In the promotion clinching game against Mansfield town at springy in 1982 I witnessed him screaming blue murder at some young lads that encroached on the pitch after a goal was scored , he was playing that day .it wasn’t nice to see and I can still picture it to this day.
Bear in mind that this was a huge game at the time to celebrate the clubs first ever football league promotion.
Most players and managers welcomed that kind of thing back as long as it was peaceful back then and I remember running on after Mick Quinn score his first ever goal and him thanking us for the adulation.Never understood the decision to let this fine striker leave and what we wouldn’t give to have a player as good as he was today .
I went off him completely when I witnessed that reaction from joyful supporters celebrating an important goal.
Brian Clough was also very scathing about him in his books also.Oh how times have changed, when we sold our best ever striker (Mickey Quinn) to a bigger club (Stockport). Who would have thought back then that the mighty Rossoneri would one day be courting one of our players. We allegedly paid Stockport to take him off our hands according to a bloke at a Larry Lloyd tribute night in 2012.
What a decision that was if true !I thought April fools day had come early.
He has improved massively though this season and has been one of our best players and has tons of pace.He is a utility player and in my view seems better in attack.
Used to be common for managers back in the day to utilise defenders as make shift strikers when times were tough.
Mick Lyons of Everton is a classic example.
Try anything , we are down in my view unless he makes radical changes. Will get a laugh or two I knowGeldhart, Weir into the first team squad with Geldhart into the old Powell role.
Can’t make my mind up between Windass or Garner but here’s one for some debate Robinson as an out and out striker .
He has proved he has attacking qualities , has pace , and has already scored and also looked lively around the box.
Off the wall but he is still learning and proved already he is a good utility player who looks better in an attacking position centrally.A six yard box striker is what we need very quickly.
Not had that since Will Grigg was here but that is what is needed now as we waste so many chances from wide positions with nobody to score the scrappy chances.
A loan signing probably the best option given the precarious state we are in.no point changing anything now.
Same bunch of ‘strikers ‘ and slow paced midfielders And more importantly the same board of directors.
The record is firmly stuck , wish I could be more positive.
I exclude all the under 18s from the above ( they will be very important next year )Broken record again and again.
A dreadful inept performance against a mediocre mid table side and stuff the stats we had no punch in the vital areas.
I have said it many times now this bunch is arguably the worst we have had for many a year and I don’t think it is salvageable now whatever happens.
I saw more heart , effort and belief from our youth lads in one minute last Wednesday than I saw from that bunch in the entire game yesterday ( Naismith aside ).
They have tried everything and it still doesn’t work and sadly I’m now resigned to league 1 , we just haven’t got enough of what is required to survive.
A depressing place to be at this stage of the season .Geldhart was caught in posession a few times however when he did get on the ball his impact was devastating particularly when the ball is in front of him.
Has the rare ability to create clear cut chances out of nothing and he did that on several occasions and but for their very good and extremely busy goalkeeper could easily have bagged a couple.
I hope and trust Cook was there last night because there are several players amongst this lot that could easily be in the first team squad and should be.Great performance from our superb youngsters tonight.
A lot to look forward to and signs are club is building a brilliant youth policy and Geldhart and Weir first team standard already in my view.
Really enjoyed that tonightbest performance of the season in my view in all that is required to get results at this level.
Battled hard throughout the 95 minutes and also managed to see the game out resulting in avoiding the last minutes cock ups seen previously.
Windass had one of his better games in the shirt and good to see us have the required luck for once.
Positive stuff to start the New Year and long overdue!!!A deck chair to sit in his back garden because he hates going away from home.
Just not good enough !!!
Pretty patterns but no quality and another game with no cutting edge and devout of character.
Going down like a lead balloon.
GoneOfficially the worst team in the championship statistically and pressure at boiling point ahead of the Blackburn game.
No more “ it is what it is “ and “ we go again “ Bull s*** the broken record has played until the half way point of a dreadful season so far and it is critical now
No more flannel and smokescreen they have to go over there and come back with three points , end of !!!!
I have suspected for some time this team has no character and I suspect the final confirmation of this will be tomorrow night.
No more to be said really !!Is that Steve bleasdale that was on the infamous ‘big Ron manager’ documentary ?
