You lot crack me up, you really do

You’re just like Sky – football didn’t exist before 1990

Of course we all know football existed before 1990, FFS sake some even went to Goole away.
If you could check the age of a lot of the fans that come on here you might find thay weren’t even born before 1990 or 2000 for that matter, so how could they comment on players they haven’t even heard of never mind seen play.

If you want a list of old crap ones that no one has heard of I’m sure LHL, Donny, Griff, me and Garswood could give you a few.

I’ll start the ball rolling with a debutant goalscorer called Richard Brolly, and that’s probably around the 1990 era, I’m sure some will come up with more obscure ones.
Has to be Stuart Whittaker; only lasted two and half games before we sent him back to Bolton ! Horc will remember him.
I would just put that in the bucket of pointless signings along with Jamie Barnwell Edinboro, Neil Woods etc..

Back on topic, today is “Bye Bye Boycey” day.

1,200 tickets sold and more available, so I’m sure anybody who wants to show their appreciation to Emmerson can do so.

1. Boselli cost us a fortune
2. David graham scored goals for fun at torquay then immediately dried up here
3. Rachid Bouaouzan remember him?? Paid over 800k and don’t think he played one minute of league football

Agree with Boselli, but without his goal at Bournemouth we may never have won the FA Cup.
A bit harsh on David Graham. I remember him playing in midfield for much of the time. Our forwards were Ellington and Roberts.

I’d have to put Koumas near the top.
Big transfer fee, big wages (for us), little Impact and took an age to get him off the wage bill.

There is no big issue as far as Holt is concerned for me.
He must be one of the highest earners, but who would really offer for him now after his injury?

It say more about the agent:-
He really thought a teenager was Sean Dyche?
He thought it was ok to take a call from the “Manager” of club to tap up his player directly.

I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

If somebody could just help me out with Caldwell being at the club without playing, being in charge of the under 8’s and then becoming manager, compared to us just basically letting our FA Cup winning captain go a year away from a decade at the club. Anyone?

That’s dead easy. He was under contract, but injured. Then he retired as a player. Then he was appointed manager, somehting he had clearly been lined up to do.

Not sure what your point is? Not a rare occurence, granted.
The one additional point is that Caldwell signed a new contract last summer.
Why did the club agree to this? Because they were probably looking to the longer term to bring him into the coaching set-up, therefore created a dual role.
Ah foresight!
I’d have Boyce over Calamity any day, even if it was brewing up.
An upbeat feeling at close of season has washed away and has been replaced with a tightness around my pocket that is struggling to let my wallet out.
As a player or as a coach or manager?
I heard a bit of the “this is your life” with Boyce. One of the things I heard is that he has never been a good trainer, but always performed on matchday.
This doesn’t sound like the making of a coach to me.

I will forever be thankful for the service he has given and I am sad to see him go.
I personally wouldn’t begrudge him another season, but it has to make sense for both parties.
He will forever be associated with some of our most iconic moments, but his legs have gone. It reminds me of John Butler’s last season at the club and his time is up.

Not being funny Egg but are we in a better financial state than before Mr Whelan? In which way? Money in the bank? Assets? Debt control?

Re-wind to 1994, before Mr. Whelan.
Our crowds and league position were similar to Darlington, Scarborough and Hereford.
We’ve risen through the leagues along with Fulham and have experiences that most of our fans could only dream of.
Even if you do believe that we aren’t in a better financial state would you preferred to stay in the lower leagues and not lived through the past 10-15 years?

By the way, it is obvious that we are in a better financial state now.

I would argue that it is more difficult playing “possession” football in the lower leagues on the basis that the skill level required is a limiting factor on the players at your disposal.

This was evident at Brentford when they started to press us high up the pitch causing many forced errors. Caldwell will have to be very selective in his choice of players if he intends to play that way, which begs the question will that calibre of player be available to a League One club.

A certain Mr. Martinez guided Swansea to promotion from League 1 as Champions by playing possession football.

The guy has made quite a positive impression on me so far in the interviews I have heard.

I do hope he is working hard in the background on putting changes in place.
He has to get new Directors on board, implement the new player recruitment organisation that he talked about etc.

Day to day issues (including interviews) are for others to manage and he needs to focus on his 1-5 year plan.

It’s their job and Latics isn’t their passion like us.

However by showing the Latics history video to the players before the game shows Caldwell is trying to improve team spirit and connect the players with the club.

I hope he looked into the eyes of everyone after that video and made a judgement who is willing to fight for our club.

And finally, Caldwell Cam!! Where was Malky Mic or Uwe Tube?
Let’s remember that it serves a purpose for Caldwell to show the fans he cares for our club. I’ve no problem with that though as we need fighters right now.

In my youth I even bought the video of the Kenny Swain season.
It wasn’t funny at the time, but there is certainly a comedy element to it now.

Egg came up with a name of two players (cant remember their names) – one who’d played once in a league cup tie and once in an end-of season game about 8 years ago, but this one is the first Wiganer to have scored for his home town club for many many years.

Pleasing to see a local lad playing for his local club. I hope he has many more days like yesterday.

I remember Andy Morris scoring in a cup game about 13 years ago. Small, quick left winger but with not much end product. However i think it was an auto windscreens shields match. If i remember rightly he scored in extra time to win it. Might have been Blackpool
Oldham I believe.
Correction. It was Burnley.
