Sorry but the kermit thought he was bigger than the club, well I wouldnt touch him again with a barge pole.Good player but not as good as he or his agent reckons.Fair play to Moses he hasnt consistently stated he wanted to better himself and intends to leave at the first opportunity. When Victor moves on we will carry on what we have been doing since 2005 and bring in a replacement if he is the right guy.
So refusing a double your money contract and saying he’ll go to the highest bidder is a show of loyalty??? He’s done exactly what Charlie did, he was quoted last season that he wouldn’t sign a new deal with us and wanted away.
If you believe what the papers say, apparently his new contract takes him from £10k to £20k per week (i.e. Moses). 3 year deal.
IF he did re-sign, then arguably we’d get more for him in 12 months time (2 years remaining on revised contract)ASSUMING he continues to develop; it would also give him the opportunity to get another 12m Premier League experience under his belt(avoidance of NZogbia /Villa scenario), develop further under RM guidance and earn a bigger PAY packet. Win Win ??
His cash-hungry /get rich quick agent doesn’t appear to see it thus….
On the subject of Bobby and formations, from an ENGLAND perspective what about the team below in formation indicated (as opposed to current 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1)
HART
JAGIELKA, LESCOTT, TERRY
JOHNSON (or MILNER), PARKER, GERARD, COLE
ROONEY
CARROLL(or YOUNG), WELBECK
Thoughts ??
Whilst understanding that its too late in the day to revert to such, feel that the above would make us much more offensive as an attacking force (Johnson and Cole – both defenders, able to bomb on (Cole started out career as LW; Johnson, better attacker than defender (!) with the odd decent goal in him) and less predictable as a team.
With Rooney, Welbeck and Carroll in the team, ability also to mix it up (in to feet, to head, etc.) and play more between the lines …
Would give the Germans something to think about (confidence… ;) )
Reinforcements – Defoe, Oxlade-C, Jones, Baines
Moses OUT (very good in fits and starts…), NZogbia BACK IN (quality and greater consistency, team player)
N’Zogbia. Team Player.
Not really phrases you normally see very close to one another. ;)
Enough of a team player to be recognised by his team mates and be awarded PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF YEAR (and Supporters Player of Year) for 2009-10. B)
Moses, (understandably) still has scope for development where his decision-making (and finishing) is concerned
e.g. West Brom (H), Bolton (A)…Rodallega nearly throttled him (refusal to pass to better-positioned team-mates) !!
Granted, getting Nzogbia back would be a tall order (maybe non-starter), but if it did happen (and Moses went), I wouldn’t be too disappointed.
To witness again the wonders of NZogbia e.g. Arsenal (3-2), WHU (3-2),
and Stoke (1-0, assist) …great moments !Topic certainly stimulated some debate …
Just sell him, he isnt even that good. We should be concentrating on Wigan Athletic, This isnt the Victor Moses show. Let him ruin his career and lets all laugh at the pair of them when he ends up back in the championship.Moses OUT (very good in fits and starts…), NZogbia BACK IN (quality and greater consistency, team player)
Net transfer in proceeds to fund higher NZogbia pay.
Easy !!
My SIX :
1 Spain
2 Germany
3 Netherlands
4 Brazil
5 France
6 ArgentinaURUGUAY (2nd) ????!
France (14th ??)
Thought England were SEVEN (so I recall having heard recently…)Suspect the Wigan climate and culture may have gone against us, bright lights of London…..
‘Okay, London or Wigan…..that’s a tough one?’ I more than suspect that geography and reputation will always go against us in such instances.
Wrong. It CAN be a tough one. Nearby Alderley Edge / Wilmslow is not TOO shabby.
Ask Messrs Tim Cahill, Brad Friedel, Dietmar Haman (still resident) and Peter Crouch by way of example, not forgetting our own Ben Watson. Mo mo Diame would have little cause for complaint where the girls are concerned B)
Captain Caldwell a neighbour of SAF (MU)
If you don’t ASK, you don’t GET ….
Big city lights not ALWAYS preferred option (other things being equal)
Had to do a Donnelly for the title. Reading are on the verge of signing him on a 4 year deal. Can’t help but think to myself that is one missed from us.Agreed. 6 in 12 for Fulham last season.
I suspect his £65k weekly equivalent pay cheque includes his signing-on fee, paid over duration of 4 year contract.
In which case, not too dissimilar from £6m + lower weekly (£30-£40k, e.g. Bosselli) on 3-4 year deal. Cash flow benefit, in fact !
Suspect that our free transfer man, Diame will on something not too dissimilar at WHU.
Suspect the Wigan climate and culture may have gone against us, bright lights of London…..
Still, would have been great addition to the team /squad.
52. No age. Good guy. Sympathies to family n friends. RIP Chris.
Not wishing to be the killjoy but read today (Daily Mail, I think) that Murphy is to be offered another contract at Fulham.
So the mighty Villa are rumoured to be in for Moses. They’d better make darn sure they make a better success of him, than they have to date of N’Zogbia.
Grass always greener … ?
One for debate ….
Moses for (N’Zogbia + £4M)?? Any takers (assuming both parties willing)??
Far from talking Latics down, I am merely being realistic.Wigan Athletic play in a northern, working class rugby town, in a half-filled stadium and are likely to get relegated every year: let’s be honest, that’s what most people think.
Ambitious Premier League footballers do not come to Wigan. We attract young lads from lower leagues, players from other country’s leagues who want to make the step up, and older players in the twilight of their career.
As much as I’d love to think the Martinez/Whelan road-show of recent weeks has done wonders for Wigan’s image, the club will still fall well short of attracting the bigger names.
I appreciate that the promised money from Whelan could be used to blow on one player’s salary, but that money is not unlimited, and there is a wage structure in place at the club for a reason; pay one player £40k a week, and suddenly the whole squad want a pay rise – and the club simply cannot afford that.
I agree that Di Santo’s goal to game ratio could be better, but I’m not overly concerned about it as long as he’s working for the team and the team are scoring. But yes, another striker would be good and if Boselli is up for it, he’ll do for me.
For me, we need another Centre Half as Gohouri has gone and I’m not too confident of Lopez; we also need cover on the right, if as I’ve heard, Stam is looking to leave.
Whilst I agree that J A Risse would make a fantastic addition to the squad, unfortunately it’s Bjorn Helge Risse who has been released from Fulham, not his brother.
Understand from a v good source that our current player of the year tops (by some) the £40k figure toy refer to. Furthermore, that he fancied his chances of a move to Liverpool had RM gone.
Happy with Di S (no issue) – improved goals to game ratio anticipated
Bosselli – not for me (quality addition required…)
Agreed on CB / RWB comments
J A Risse – stand corrected. BH, as good as his brother ??Shame. J A Risse and Pavel P combination would have worked nicely alongside Beausejour and Di Santo.
Quality in depth for our good Cup runs next season and assault on Europe (qualification via Fair Play ?! … ;)
I thought it was Theo Paphitis and Anne Robinson! :woohoo:Better still !
Hands up all those who have heard of Theo Robinson? :woohoo:…..lets see 1,…….. 2,.. 3……………. that’s 3 out of 567 posters who have heard of him, despite playing for a club who finished 12th in the championship last season.
At least most of us had heard about Jason Scotland before his arrival at the DW. :P
Having said that, the lad scored 12 goals last season and is out of a good bloodstock being the love child of Theo Walcott and Paul Robinson.
goodpost
£1.5M :)Would be worth a shout…12 goals last season!
Hadn’t a certain ‘can’t stop scoring’ Jason Scotland scored a few for Swansea (just to dampen your initial enthusiasm a little..) ??
I think the Micky mousers (half yank half scouse) arnt exactly being truthfull,1,If rodgers was there number one choice why not chase him in the way they pushed for bobby, 2,why walk down a street in miami when they where called having talks,in full view of everyone.Cant remember in 30yrs employment ever having an interview walking round town. So perhaps some sort of offer was made to bobby, then they have had to back track because rodgers said if he wasnt 1st choice he was intrested
I have a totally different take on it:
Martinez is approached by Liverpool – as were several managers. Whelan grants permission, knowing full well he won’t accept the job, but fully aware of the exposure it will give Wigan Athletic, Dave Whelan and Roberto Martinez to prospective sponsors, players, potential fans etc.
Martinez flies to Miami and has an informal chat, plus a walk for some coffee and there happens to be a photographer in the side street that they are walking down, who recognised both of them and the significance of the meeting. (Did someone get a tip-off perhaps?) It’s an exploratory chat – nothing more.
Whelan then proclaims that Martinez has agreed to stay (what a man that Wigan manager is) and states publically that he will benefit from increased funding, an indoor pitch, and new contracts for his staff (what a man that Wigan owner is).
End results:
Wigan are permanently in the news throughout May and June – those who didn’t know who Wigan, Martinez or Whelan were do now.
Martinez’s reputation has gone through the roof as he was a front runner for the Liverpool job but turned them down. Players will want to sign and play for such a great manager.
Just to convince them further, Wigan are getting better facilities, which should hopefully also encourage the likes of Moses to stay.
Season ticket sales go up.
Wigan’s staff are getting new contracts, so even Wigan’s Assistant Manager has turned down a Premier League club in order to stay. What a club Wigan is!
Or am I being too cynical?
Sounds like a WICKED plan B)
