To those wanting Whelan out, be careful what you wish for. Yes, if Whelan goes, we might see someone come in and spend £10m+ on a top centre forward or something, but does anyone really believe unless we find a super-rich Arab or Latics fan from somewhere, that, for example ST’s will be £300 a year? There may well be more investment in the squad but plenty on here would soon be screaming “I’d go but them prices are crazy”
In fairness to NatDan, I’ve just noticed the suggestions he came up with for a new manger. Curbishley (not the worst suggestion), Davies (remember Derby??), McLaren (did he really do anything recently apart from watch a match holding a brolly), Reid (not managed at the top level for a few years, since he made a mess of Sunderland).
They should all care, but sadly its not always like that, *certain players just dont look interested. Professional pride should come into it, I accept they didnt go out to lose the game, but by christ it should hurt like hell that as Premier League players they lost to a league 2 side. Thats not being disrespectful to Notts, they deserved their win, but League 2 is what they are and we should have beaten them comfortably.
*points at Mr Koumas
In fairness ace, after Canvey Island I would have been one of them, I fully expected Jewell to be sacked before I got home after that game…..what happened after just goes to show what a stupid thing to do sacking him would have been. If you believe in your manager, you have to at least give him a season to make his mark, unless relegation happens then you’re entitled to second thoughts
“Chubster revelling in it”…..yes, they’ve bought a lot of credit to the town in the last few years with all those *trophies they’ve been winning while we’ve climbed our way through the divsions. Aye, the C&W s***e fans have a lot to crow about dont they?
*Counts to 1 and realises thats too many
Stay, it shouldn’t even be a debate, yes he probably needs someone with premier league coaching experience to help him, but he needs time to mold the squad.
I’d ask the “Martinez out” brigade 2 questions.
1) Can you name a side that sacked a manager after 22 league games and went on to achieve what was success for that club in the long run?
2) Spot the managerial connection between 2 results:
FA Cup – Wigan 0 Canvey Island 2
Premier League 2005/06 – Wigan 1 Sunderland 0I rest my case about giving a manager time to build a squad and club into his ways.
Well well, what a suprise, we have a bad night and the stuck record known as “NatDan” turns up. Yet again we get “Martinez out” with not a hint of a way forward should we sack the manager, I’ve yet to read a sensible suggestion on that. No excuses for last night’s performance but I guess had we won by 5 or 6 the likes of NatDan and others would have moaned that we didnt score enough goals.
Very good transfer window for us, especially with all the talk in the last few weeks of Hugo, Charlie and Maynor leaving. Caldwell looks to be a no-nonsense centre half which we need, Moreno might turn ouut to be quiet decent and the Victor Moses signing is a superb coup for us. Credit to Bobby and his staff.
Hopefully, once the new guys have settled in we can push on and start climbing the table.
Maybe he has been to Harrods, been round the back and looked at what he can pick up thats been faulty and rejected.
31 January 2010 at 10:31 pm in reply to: Yesterday’s Attendance/That Lot Loving Our Troubles. #20751I agree that £28 is a lot for a ticket, however its probably no dearer than most clubs outside the big city clubs (not saying that makes it right), but at £250-£300 for a ST you do think we’d get more on.
I’m sure years ago the question was asked “does Wigan want professional football in its town”, maybe its time to ask “do some people in Wigan want/deserve the chance to watch Premier League football”.
Not a dig that those that make it.
Oh and as for the eggchasers loving us struggling, they have looked at their own side lately I presume, werent we a third divison club last time they won a trophy?
I would imagine he’s had the medical, probably cant be officialy confirmed because we cant register the move with the Premier League till tomorrow.
Somebody tell Loudmouth Martinez picks the half time music…wonder what he’ll say then ;)
You’re right about Scotland, whatever you think of him, one thing he does is put himself about and if the ball is played up to him he can make himself a nuisance for defenders.
Loudmouth said…..there has been a distinct silence,on the whelan comment “but i was also not very happy about signing a player not in their fist team even though roberto said he will be a good signing”
A few of us were talking about this and wondered if Whelan is beginning to question Roberto’s judgement in the transfer market, or did Villareal move the goalposts at the last minute. Whatever, I would say is that if the deal was within the budget Whelan promised Martinez for this transfer window, then no matter what the chairman’s view, he must always back his manager.
Spot on that Vat, but we do need stop giving away stupid goals, the laps in concentration have cost us dearly, there are far worse sides in this league, but we dont seem to have that defensive steel and at the other end, be able to take advantage when we’re on top. Today was similar to the Birmingham game, where if we had taken our chances we would have been at least 2 up.
Agree about McCarthy too, obviously he’s young and he’ll have dips in form, but he does look to have something about him.
