I’m sick of having to defend Mr Whelan on here. We were days away from going out of business had he not bought us out. We were at the bottom of the abyss yet he took us on the the most amazing journey. The Wigan Athletic story is the greatest football story ever told because of Dave Whelan, try to remember that before you slag him off next time eh?.
There would have been no club to save only for the fans, who attended the meetings in the Queens Hall in the 1980’s, and who paid money monthly to the club to keep it afloat. The ordinary fans saved the club long before Whelan came on the scene.
Lets get rid of the statue then coz obviously Mr Whelan has done fcuk all but line his own pockets. Some on here are unbelievable. This club would have never been anywhere near the Prem or the FA cup without the guy ffs.
The club would have been extinct without Whelan. Some people on here drive me insane. They’d prefer to be still been at “Good owd Sprinfield Park” watching sh”t football drinking sh”t Bovril under a tin sh”t hit hut on swimming pool sh”t pitch.
This thread is on par with War and Peace it’s that longCupwinners where did I say ALL our fans were the worst. In the title subject ?
ffs
Miserable, miserly, cynical twats.
Losing let’s moan instead of getting behind team.
Try changing formation lets moan at manager.
Swap player lets moan at manager.
Don’t swap player lets moan at manager.
Ticket prices lets moan at club.
Manager hospitalised lets sack him.
Thoroughly fed up of our so called supporters. The fans are venting the disappointment at Joyce when they start booing and not at the players. The vast majority of fans fully support the team but what makes their pish boil is the tactics of the manager.
You’ve got a nerve tarring all Latics fans with the same brush, a few boo and you think you’ve got the right to call all fans “Worst fans in the country” ?. I think you will find that someone who calls his own fans is just as bad if not worse than those who boo.
I can tell with that remark you don’t go many away games cause I’ve heard 50 times worse coming other home fans.
You just stick to doing your impression of the Churchill Dog ,sat there, nodding and agreeing with everything “Oh yes”
Worst fans in the country my harse !!It’s the plastics who have never seen us be crap before that are the problem here. They expect too much and if we don’t get it right are the moaning gets..never ever satisfied and won’t support us.
The club has its heart in the right place and I am proud to be a wiganer whatever, certainly it’s better when we play with style and win but if not I won’t be booing them off anytime soon….I’ve gone for 35years following them without resorting to that, hopefully I’ve another 35 years left in me. Happy clapper or miserable moaning get, neither but it’s better for your health to be a half clapper! Will the real Helen Keller please stand up
We can do anything we want to if we stick to it long enough. Helen Keller
If Bristol win tonight which is possible after throwing a 2 goal lead away at Newcastle on Saturday and we lose against Blackburn which again is possible because we are sh*t then we will be knee deep in the brown stuff.
But not to worry, Obertan and Bruce will be ready for the Leeds game to save the day. If not they’ll be fit & lean, Speedo’s in hand ready for their their summer hols paid for by Wigan Athletic wage department and best bud JoyceI think we should definitely be looking for 7 if not 9 points out of these if we are to give ourselves a god chance of getting out of this while heap of a mess we are inJoyce needs reminding we have to shoot first then ask the impossible, get at least one on target,
I know, I know, I’m probably asking too much there, I predict 1 point a (0-0 draw) from 9 and sod all from the Blackburn game. One consolation, this is as bad as it gets
I heard its sort sort out his “Ingrowing midfield”
No need, I’ll close the door…………………….
It’s off for the momentSpecsavers, and while he’s there he should get his ears done as well
The stumbling block is the stupid idiotic 3 1/2 year deal he was given to him rather than a 12 month rolling like the rest got. I’m sure without this deal in place he would be long gone. To me it sounds like Sharpe was blinded like a rabbit in a car’s headlights with Joyce’s CV that more than likely read like a who’s who of some of the most talented young players in the country non of which will come to Wigan.
I’ve said it before, Stock car driving, Rally driving, F1 driving, similar granted but totally different from each other and all requiring different skills of some sort.
Same goes for managing/coaching a kids side, managing/coaching a youth side, managing/coaching an amateur non league side and managing/coaching a Professional League side.
Only a small handful of managers make the transition successfully and Joyce is not one of them, in my eyes he’s 15-20 years to late for the job and should do what he does best, train young men at Youth level to become top pro’s which is just as valuable as a managers jobs at League levelI have a feeling Sharpe and his henchmen will have been weighing up the situation over the weekend and looking at what it cost to get shut and who’s available to steer the Latics ship away from the drop.
As fans we all complain when were not winning sometimes wrongly but that’s just in our nature as fans simply because we go to football to hopefully watch our team win, celebrate, feel good factor, banter. But on the same token we also recognise that in times gone by we might not have had the best players but we can see when they put the effort in in and the managers trying everything at hand and if it does go our way so be it bit of a moan, dust down and get ready for the next game but at the end of the day were behind the players and the manager.
In this case it’s totally different and it’s all there to see, players are doing as the manager says, fans are trying to stomach it but still cheering them on, board supporting the management. The players right now certainly don’t lack for effort, you can call Max Power all you want but he’s doing as instructed, stifle and harass all over the middle of the middle of the park and by all accounts while suffering from a hernia.
Buxton playing injured while Alex Bruce is still recovering from a serious injury ?, and the method in your madness signing injured and unfit players please explain, are we the new Battersea rehab home for injured, unfit and unwanted players ??.
Obertan is not just fit but also carrying an injury and bringing in players that haven’t played for months quote: WJ “The new players need time”. Little tip WJ , if my car’s on the blink and I’m struggling to get to work I don’t go out and buy another knackered car then send it in to get it repaired I buy something that can “Hit the road running”.If the poor results were based on the lack of player quality or plain old unlucky then Joyce wouldn’t be under any kind of pressure but the proof of the pudding is the match day performance, decision making of the lowest calibre not seen since the days of ping pong Coyle and now there’s rumour of player unrest, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s anything to do with wearing shorts.
I’ve just been looking back through the modern day history of the club and I am struggling to find a worse period were the stats and figures have been as poor as they are now on such a consistent basis.
In today’s business world if you walked into the boardroom and showed the Latics monthly figures and stats on any pie chart you’d be P45’ing it all the way to Brocel House. You’d stand a better chance of keeping your job if you showed a picture of a Pooles pie.
I’m sorry Joyce, I had my doubts when your appointment was made and to be honest I’m sad to say it’s turning out I was right. Training youth teams is not the same as training League team and your like a duck out of water. Good managers all go out in every game to win whether it be a Man City or a non league side or it’s pointless playing the game, your philosophy is not to lose the game as apposed to go out and win this game and right now that’s not what Wigan Athletic need. I would sooner see us go down fighting rather than the try and score against us method you’ve imposed on the squad.
He gave Mandron his chance and under the circumstance (no width no attacking midfielders) I thought in the early stages of the game they worked well together.
Then, the madness of Joyce once more takes over were Obertan plays up front and when a goal is desperately needed removes Bogle to save him (a full 7minutes) and then brings Grigg on.
It’s obvious Joyce doesn’t like:-
Attacking midfielders prefers grafters over any kind of skill factor,
All wingers are secret cupboard strikers, Yanic, Powell, Obertan
He thinks if you win the midfield battle you win the game, wrong,
Doesn’t like wingers,
Prefers 1 forward at a time on the pitch,
Not to lose over let’s go and win this,
Doesn’t know when and who to sub when a goal is needed,
Combine all these and it’s a recipe for disaster.
Let’s see how the vengaboys do this Saturday and if getting shut of Coyle pays off. When he was given the job I thought , what does he have to offer ?. Months down the line I’m thinking the exact the same. Sharpe must question why the hell did Latics give a guy with hardly any League management experience a 3 + 1/2 yr deal ?, who’s idea was that ?. Malky and Coyle got rolling contracts and even though they were utter crap but they had alot more experience.
For me this is as bad as it gets, in the bottom 3, no winning, not scoring, no shots on goal, and a small army in midfield and non with any attacking ability.
If your reading this Sharpe, use some of the Yanic money and pay the guy off. Bring someone in who can play players in their right positions and motivate the players to stay in this division before you end up with venkiboy egg on your face and a told you so………
Lose next week & it might be curtains for joyce. And for Latics in the Championship. I hope your wrong or it will prove Sharpe was wrong in not sacking him weeks ago and the vengaboys of blackburn got it right
Today was the perfect opportunity to gain 2 points on 3 of our nearest rivals.
If we lose next week the vengaboys will have proved that getting rid of your manager can save your season.
For me he has to go, totally out his depth. If Sharpe thinks he’s worthy of keeping his job he needs to go to specsavers, that was as poor as I’ve seen even under Malky and Coyle so please go and thanks for……………. I give up
While walking over the bridge I heard 3 different groups of fellas all saying the exact things:-
No width, all midfielders doing the, same job,
Why did he bring Obertan on and play him up front when he’s a wideman,
Why take off Bogle when were desperate for goals ?, 7 minutes won’t make make a sod of difference.
I’m sorry but I don’t blame any player. This manager thinks that if he floods the midfield we can stifle the opposition. Zero shots on goal is embarrassing. And why the F bring on Gilby for 35minutes when he hasn’t played for months on end with bad injuries. 10-15 minutes would have been enough.
Joyce, you did a fantastic job at Utd but it’s time to throw the towel in at Wigan and fook off, your out your depth. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out were your going wrong.
