If you have the best and fastest car in a race and you constantly finish last do you blame the car or the driver ?.
Against Blackpool was like going back to the days of Coyle were we have no plan A B or C infact any letter you want to choose.
To watch James never once push forward and try to overlap was unreal. It was though he’d been told theres a bogeyman over the 1/2 way line so don’t go there.

.Even Boyce shrugged his shoulders when someone shouted to him warming up “Look were we’ve ended up ? Hard to believe hey !”..

When teams press high then there’s space to be exploited out wide and in the middle. Our players weren’t good enough to take advantage of the space left and problems. Time after time and the ball was lost or given given away (Daniels was a mess 1st half) by Burton players pressing high up field.

Shorts corners ?, again we’ve not a clue and it costs us a goal. 4 shorts corners and 2 went back to the half way line, 1 went into the box , 1 cost us a goal…pointless when there’s 4 big guys in the box. In this Division nothing fancy I say like they did , they got their win on pure graft nothing else.

Grigg & Davis ?, if the ball gets pumped up to them why were they 10-15 yard ?. Both nodded or held up the ball while the other player was miles away or decided to run away from the ball. They need to be nearer to each other to get the flick on’s not half the field apart.

Junior ?, for me the only player who can offer something different benched and please “he weren’t fit” if he makes the bench he should be ready to come on in the 1st to last minute.

Shooting ?, did we have a shot on target ? if we did I can’t remember,

I think one of our players needs to get the Bieber album in house for this Sat,
Justin in the house !

guess defending isn’t his strong point at the moment, which may explain why he’s out on loan, as the higher up the football pyramid you go, the more is expected of your players.

I don’t give a flyer if he can tackle or not, if he plays like that for us then he can crack a can and light up against the hoardings for all I care. We’ve plenty others who can do the donkey work.

I think we should at least try to secure the loan move till the end of the season. It’s gotta be good for both parties because if Bro do go up he’ll be more than likely surplus to requirements and if he’s in good form he will no doubt command a higher fee.
As for his wages at Bro ? I’d like bet he’s on less than Holt.

What impressed me the most about yesterday was the way players tracked back when not in possession. Perkins stole the ball a few times on the edge of our box and even Griggs getting back to help out. You can clearly see that Caldwell has been working on that after the 2 soft goals at Bury. I said all along that the back 3 or 4 were always been left to their own devises like other players were standing back saying “Go on, that’s your job”.

The passing was precise, players wanting the ball, and Wilchut is like a breath of fresh air with he’s electric turn off foot he can leave defenders flat footed in the matter of a few strides.

also, Max Power, not the greatest footballer but his workrate is second to non. In some aspects of his game he reminds me of a young James McCarthy basically annoying the opposition which is a job in itself , unsettling the other side.

Lets not forget though, Colchester were poor, very poor, arguing, finger pointing, and 4 or 5 players with hands on their hips after 1/2 an hour looked to me like a team with poor fitness levels. The biggest problem now for Caldwell is, he has just raised the bar to a new height and we have to maintain that week in week out…. but highly impressed with yesterday , not just the win or the score but the general all round play and like I said the defending and getting back in numbers was immense.

Does anyone think we should rest a few against Fleetwood and play a full strength side at Crewe. Surely a trip to Wembley would be of an higher priority than mid-table obscurity.

rest ? you are seriously taking the pish ?? they’ve only played a handful of games this season, there mostly under the age of 30, and they’ve been keeping fit since they were at schoolboy level unlike us lot, they have 3 days to recover ffs.

Yep , I can only imagine your boss saying after 8 weeks in the sun “You’ve been back a month now, you look a bit peakish, take the week off it will be busy next week oh and your on fully pay”

If they can’t play 2 games of football in 3 days there’s something wrong with them. That Wallcott pishes me off, he hasn’t played 90 minutes for nearly 12 months , the majority of them from the starting 11.
Lazy barstewards , get up, get out there , and give it all for the cause!! you get paid a fookin fortune so earn it for Christs sake.
I watched Newcastle last night away at West Ham and most of the Newcastle players didn’t give a flying hoot, they were more bothered about their hair than winning. It was like an M&M Direct catalogue than a football team
Unless your job is to compete physically against other equally trained athletes, then no, your boss will never say that.

Modern football’s all about fine margins these days. Most players are at pretty much the same level, so it’s diet, rest, recovery, morale etc that can make the difference.

So if the coaching staff think a 100% fit donnys page is a better option than a 90% fit cup winners, donnys page will start and you’ll be on the bench.

Nothing to do with feeling a bit tired, and it’s not the player who makes the decision whether they play or no.
Sanchez at Arsenal has begged not to be rested , Ronaldo , Messi look at the games they play in a season. Look at the older Liverpool squads when they won everything. Everything these days has to have a tag or a name attached to it.

When I was a young lad and ground working I had no “fine margins” I had to friggin dig till it were done or no pay 12 hr shifts, It’s all crap. Eat well, rest in between games I cant see why you can’t play twice a week for 12 month nevermind once a week for 8 month.
Imagine the stink that would have been kicked up if he’d held back and let the striker through and he scored. He did what he had to do.

Hypothetical, for me he did right he took the option out of the goal scorers hands. A better defender would have cleaned tackled him and a better attacking player would have skipped the tackle and drilled it home but its Div1 football, nuff said

Oi!! Folks!! From what I heard Barnett had little choice. Either do what he did or let a certain goal happen./

Firstly the guy had to control it and get a shot off plus beat the keeper, if he were that certain to score he wouldnt be at Port Vale

Griggs class ??? Sure you don’t mean Giggs. From what I saw yesterday Griggs & Davies will be lucky to score 15 between them. The young lad from City/Huddersfield looked more threatening in the few mins he had meaning pace something Griggs and Davies don’t pocess and something we lack as a team bar Reece James.
your fookin easily pleased, lets not forget the saves are keeper pulled off. I think Sharps quote of smash the 100 points will be no more than a dream. The 2 1/2 decent clubs weve played so far comprehensively beat us. I would have made Huwes stay and play or the reserves you go.

What saves did our keeper have to make? I’m struggling to remember any.
The problem with the possession game is I always think we’re too concerned on keeping the ball and don’t take those half chances to shoot because we’re afraid of losing the ball. We need to eradicate that and use the best of both styles of play.

Gotta agree , I thought Jacobs and James worked well in the early part of the game overlapping but if we are relying on Grigg getting us 15 to 20 then the final ball has to be far far better than it was last night. How many times did players get into a shooting position and pass sideways or back ?. I t was similar at Coventry but their players did pull the trigger only for it to go wizzin past.

Abit er shooting practise wouldn’t go amiss and a bit less crab football

Not all doom and gloom yesterday having had time to reflect.

We looked quite comfortable on the ball, but has some have said already, the build up was too slow and predictable. When we did inject a bit of pace from back to front, we looked threatening.

The other good sign for me was that GC had a plan B. Within minutes of starting the second half, he made a double substitution, one being Davies who gave us more of a direct approach.

Verdict: not the best of starts, but one that GC will have learned a great deal from.
One change for me would definitely be McNaughton in for Kenney. That owd head with young legs still, should be in the starting 11.

I have to agree, I saw things in the last 20 that gave me some hope for the season to come.
And 100% McNaughton in is a must.

To do nout you have to be played to prove your shite not left out or thrown out on loan. As someone once said on here (gobshite) he mustn’t be showing much in training to be left out.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the last time I looked their wasn’t a DIV1 Training Pitch League.
If he does nothing else but scores goals then he’s done what he’s paid to do.
