Yes his chippy closed but he’s a Wigan Athletic fan more than you or me, Joyce was a gamble (it still might be a correct one) but I’d fight his corner any day of the week he’s a fan and a chairman and I bet he hurts more than us.
Just because he runs the club doesn’t make him a bigger fan than most. Does he pay for his ticket & travel to away matches?
I so want him to do well, he is a young & naive bloke that has a lot to learn. But to be fair, i wouldn’t want to own / run a football club.
Whelan ‘Stopped putting his personal fortune in’ around 2008…..He put PL money and Sky tv money in…..
Whelan has taken out far more than he ever put in.
PL money + tv money + player sales between 2006 and 2013 was over £500 MILLION QUID.
Whelan has screwed us over.
Look back at previous financial statements and you’ll see players wages were astronomical which is why Whelan decided to rein it in. He will have taken a wage from the club no doubt, but he certainly hasn’t screwed us over.
I’m as miffed as any other WAFC fan about our current situation but blaming Whelan is way of the mark.Whatever happened to Bruce? Was talking about Bruce yesterday and came to the conclusion that the two current centre back are playing well enough not to be dropped.
His experience could be a good help though, maybe go three centre backs to get him in and use wing backs. Wouldn’t leave us so exposed then with just the two?
We got rid of:Wildschut, who could get past two or three players in one go.
Gomez, love him or hate him, he was the mon that could deliver that killer pass.
I’d have kept Wildschut but money talks. Gomez was too good for this team nobody knows how to make runs?
Agree with bigroy, I’m struggling to stay upbeat about WJ’s style of footy. How can fans be upbeat about a match that they know we just won’t look like scoring in??January & I thought he was beginning to turn things around. Now he’s got his own players in we look absolutely devoid of idea.
Stats for both teams so far this season are very similar.
Blackburn don’t seem to score many at home, 1 seems to be their average.
Difficult to predict this one, they sack manager & had a good win over Derby. We were poor against Forest but will the players want to give Joyce something to smile about?I’d say 0 – 0 but we always seem to concede so i’ll go 1 – 1.
But we dont score
The last two homes games we haven’t, but we generally tend to score in away games. Last time we didn’t score away was in December.

Well serious as it gets means only one thing for me. Thankfully they found this problem so soon. Wish him well & hope to see him back soon.
Don’t think I’d want my illness (if I had one) broadcasting so maybe the club are or were being respectful.
To be fair, being in the Championship, nevermind the PL should be looked at as being very successful, and at one time would have been beyond our wildest dreams.True enough for around 1500 of us who have supported Latics through thick and thin but the other 8000 regulars this season shouldn’t be taken for granted because they have only ever seen Greed League and Championship football (bar last season).
What we have all witnessed lately though has been a type of football none of us can probably recollect and that’s this containing game even when points have been there for the taking. The lack of commitment to go out for a win and accept one point from games.
To an extent I can understand Joycey and coming in and trying to repair the damage done by Caldwell wasn’t an easy task and to steady the ship before pushing on was his priority but the ship now in march is in very choppy seas and the safety of the harbour seems a long way off so time has come to drop the guard and go for the points. The personnel on board have continuously changed and too many recruits have been brought in that are just not fit which must have destabilised the crew. Every last one of the signings in January have brought nothing new onboard apart from a drain on the wage bill(apart from Conolly). They were brought in to help in the relegation struggle.
So of our 1500 oldies and our 8000 plastics (as some would call them but not me) have an entitlement to air their dissatisfaction.
As you say Horc the Championship and Premier Greed League have seen us kicking above our weight but also could you have ever have envisaged us with 9500 regular home fans. That alone is an achievement and I want to continue seeing our club grow it’s fan base but with more seasons like this debacle I am afraid to say that those fantastic supporters will vote with their feet rather than their voices.
Our fans are simply the best(remember the team running out to that) not the worst supporters there are.
I wouldn’t say the extra 8k fans are plastic donny. You have plenty of kids in that lot who grew up supporting WAFC in the prem & stuck with us, rather than going off to support UTD or Liverpool etc…. Like in the olden days. Suppose it’s a byproduct of being successful
The plastics are the ones that don’t bother with us now.
That performance today made my season ticket seem bad value for moneyWe are obviously going forward as a club and a team, maybe I’m just out of step?? But Joyce Out for me!.
As much as I want stability for the club, I just couldn’t understand Joyce’s tac tics today????? Absolute clueless and I’ve already resigned myself for league 1.
Rudder-less club at the moment. Sharpy is as much to blame, young rich kid with a toy to play with.Wrong team selection to start with, wrong substitutions and more importantly probably the wrong choice of manager in the first place.
We are devoid of any ideas at the moment.
To sum up, we’re shite and we’re going down!!!Us football fans are the best in the world at picking teams……after the fekin match!
Everyone I spoke to today before the KO were going on about finally playing 442, two up front and finally giving the new lads a chance.
I thought individually you couldn’t say they played bad, they just lacked any creativity in their third. One pass too many, a through ball that was just too far or cut out by the skin of the defender’s boot.
Did they deserve to be boo’d? I don’t believe in doing that it just doesn’t do any good.
I really felt we needed to win today to push forward in two winnable away games over the next 10 days, now the players will be on the floor and as disappointed as the rest of us.We need to stick by um though, I’ll be cheering them on at Ewood and St Andrews, I’ll leave the cyber moaning to the usual suspects.
Don’t think anybody is blaming the players JR, Just Joyce. Lowey summed it up in his post! Joyce is setting them up to play his way, and quite frankly it aint a good way.
What bothers me now is I saw two players subbed today who were not happy leaving the pitch. & Believe Grigg booted the ball into the crowd at full time?! That doesn’t look like a happy camp.If we can see it why can’t they?
Feel for Buxton & Burn as both are playing really well but keep getting hung out to dry. Connolly lost the ball in midfield for the second & couldn’t get back. Warnock is too old & slow for a wingback, but would make a great left back.We are all over the place formation wise when they attack which makes it easier for the opposition.
Connolly has been pretty poor recently I think.
Agree with you ssb. Storming start but not much else. He’s not the best of defenders, a modern day defender / wingback.
Since when did we start using wing backs? I see them more tow full backs who venture forward now and again but not enough. As flat a back four as you’d see.Really? From what I watch we do use them as wing backs. Warnock is forever pinging crosses into the box & conolly high up the pitch. Both too slow to get back which creates a disfunctional formation at the back when the opposition attack.
Gentlemen the damage is done over the summer months. With rest and maintenance in the summer the surface would be superb throughout the winter and even less pitch renovation work would be needed in the spring. That is a myth donny. Every May when we play our first game of the new season the pitch looks great. I blame the groundsman, or the manager, which ever one who insists on watering the pitch constantly before & at half time
If we can see it why can’t they?

Another loss……chance to open up gap on Rovers…..get 1pt….don’t give a toss who we get now. This man was a big mistake.Oldham swapped …new man, same squad results improved.Don’t want to see us drop again in a whimper and a new man can’t do any worse can he ???…Come on Sharpie the jokes not funny anymore…he wasn’t,isn’t the man to save us !!!I’m not so sure changing the manager will turn things around Mr B. The buck stops with the manager of course but for me we are a very naive club.
You need stability, and that is something we haven’t had for 3 or 4 years now. Look at the last two transfer windows both seem to have unsettled us. We had a mini good run early Jan winning 3 on the spin, and beginning to look like a good team. then came transfer deadline day, and we’ve been poor since, and now look like a relegation side!
Stick with him, and hope the club be more prudent in future transfer windows.
