What a massive result that was today…. 5 points clear now and with Rotherhams run in reckon we are safe…
Hand on heart, how many tics at 14 minutes thought we’d get anything from this game..

That’s a fair point made 77. We just don’t get to see enough of some signings to make a judgement ourselves. If they are that bad then why are we signing them in the first instance? The manager can’t be seeing them himself surely?

Anyone got a clue what’s happened to him? Debut at Rotherham not seen or even mentioned since. Very odd as Everton fans thought he should have been in there team not sent out on loan to us.

Been saying the same for a while myself lowey. We persist with Gibson who’s crap, but won’t give a young loane player a chance? Struggle to understand our transfer thinking of late.

Having watched that game it seems to be de riguer to lie down, have a snooze, pat the floor and put your hand in the air. I’m on the Virgin home and lieing in the aisle.

What was an ok game was spoilt by that poor tactic, and not helped by the ref who didn’t simply say “that’s enough folks”. Poor reffing and poor tactics spoilt what could have been much better.

Shame we missed some great chances, but 1 point is better than none.

I had a good afternoon. Hope you did.

Nathan, Fox in the box, NickyP, Massey, Reece …….. all had good MoM games.

We don’t seem to play well after a national break gg..?
Didn’t close down today and plenty of missed placed passes from both sides.
Which is why I raised an eyebrow with Powell and James being in your mom candidates. Both kept giving the ball away.

Comes across well for me. A steady ship is what we need after the last debacle in this league. let’s hope it all works out.
Didn’t realise he had a tongue. Nice to hear from the invisible chairman. Did he say how their Antony is and how Baby David is doing?
I’ve asked Donny lad and they are both fine. Baby David has just got his first tooth through..

The Chinese / Hong Kong lot generally tend to go about their business in an unassuming way Donny. That’s not always a bad thing.

We’ll be 1 – 3 up at half time. And still 1 – 3 up with 10 mins to go. Then 3 of our defenders, including Jones, will be substituted with 10 mins to go. But we lose 4 – 3. They get a last second penalty.

Love your optimism gg but just can not see us winning tomorrow. Nothing at all in recent performances to give me any optimism..
Would take a draw now.

How does a manager stop players makkng mistakes? The only real option is to drop them. Are you suggesting we drop reece james when he makes a mistake or gives away a cheap free kick?

Are you on about reading game, if so what mistakes are you referring to ssb?

sub choices yesterday changed the flow of the game. That’s what cost us.

When I heard the team news predicted a nil nil but fairly enjoyed the game. As far as nil nil’s go it wasn’t too bad (apart from officiating)

James & Morsy in midfield worked well, Evans doesn’t really do anything and can’t understand why he keeps getting picked. Why aren’t we getting to see Beni Baningime, surely if we’ve brought him in on loan they must have watched him?

Full time fan, part time fan or there today as a freebie fan i cannot imagine too many being happy with that performance. Doesn’t make you a lesser fan for commenting on what you see either..

Our formation leaves big empty spaces in the middle. We are so predictable, go wide every time then pass sideways or backwards? With two wing backs AND two wingers we should be getting plenty of crosses into the box, but we don’t?

I like cook but he’s not showing much in the way of tac tics. Very one dimensional.

jimmy I don’t get to any weekend away days any more due to working Saturday evenings but I subscribe to the Latics player channel and see games every week, there have been some really inept performances away this season but Saturday was a lesson in the john beck school of football it was truly awful and in my opinion everything I do not want to watch when I go to a match, it may have been compounded because Rotherham were the same.

LMB, I’ve seen two games at home since you posted this and got to say I stand corrected. Stoke was long ball, today against the bottom side, not as much long ball but still plenty of hopeful punts up field. Cannot believe how poor we are at the moment and how quickly our home form has turned.
I’m worried, and now think we’ll go down if things don’t change.

To be honest LMB, I don’t see us as a long ball side? Granted, not been an away game since Preston but what I did see early part of the season away from home was inept play.
At home we certainly are not long ball, pretty ok to watch imo.

We can all look at some of the names we used to have in 2013 – 2015 and think they were good compared to current crop. But in reality they were not good enough at that level. Just what we have now is poorer quality which is down to the lack of revenue we generate.

Should Griggs games played have read 46.
Both good strikers, but with different styles. Lone striker role doesn’t suit Grigg and I’m sure if he got better service he’d score more, great finisher.

Grigg doesn’t suit the line striker role???? By his own admission it is his preferred position.
He also scored 20+ goals playing in that role for MK Dons playing as a lone striker. He scored 20+ goals playing in that role for us in his 1st season at Latics. He scored 20ish goals for us last season playing in that position.

I’d say the fact that he’s not had such a prolific rate in the Championship is more to do with where his ability level is than the position he’s been played in. There’s a reason why Brentford got rid of him when they got to that level, why he wasn’t prolific (even before injuries) for Latics in our last visit to this division, why Cook preferred others to him this season and why O’Neill doesn’t often start (or even pick him) at international level
Tyldesley, you’ve totally ignored where this discussion was going and harped on about league 1 stats…

My comment referred to the Championship, and his first time in the Championship for us coincided with a terrible set up, in fact a mess of a team so hardly surprising his goal tally was low.

when did Grigg say he prefers to play up front alone?

IMO, considering the way we play Grigg hasn’t got the physical attributes to play the lone striker role in this league. As I said, if he’s given the service then I’d say he could hold his own in this league.

Mad how some fans now imply he is sh ! te & good riddance?? :pinch:

Other than a blip of a season (2 for Clarke) not a bad record for either of them.

Absolutely agree about the substitutes, and defo a pen. 3 pts all that counts yesterday but will have to improve to climb clear of relegation zone.

Will you please stop harping on about the fekin relegation zone. We are 7 points clear of it, how many games will it take those bottom 3 to get 7 points? They are in the bottom 3 because they are not winning games. You seem to be trying to convince yourself and others that we will be in a relegation fight on every thread.
Relegation was too close for comfort Jr. We were only five points clear before the weekend. We’re away on Saturday so every chance we’ll lose and could be back in it..
