Ledley King – in fairness was crocked but could play a bit on a Saturday
George Best – liked a pint & birds more than footballSurely their reputations for this was only earned at the end of their career though. In fact, as a youngster, I’m sure Best was supposed to be one of the hardest trainers.
For Latics, Ramis not training hard (due to injuries sustained) may be understandable. Players in their early 20s who can’t quite break through into the first XI is a different story.
…… They can sack a player for whatever they see fit…..They can only be sacked if they’ve broken the terms of their contract. Given that players are invariably on fixed term contracts, they can be released by the club mid-term, but the club will then have to pay them compensation……….. hence why Holt’s been sent out on loan to avoid such a situation.
One could argue that they could (as anyone could) be sacked for not performing their job to an acceptable standard, but I’m fairly sure that it would be a first in football terms.

I bet Uwe is dreading him and Chris McCann getting fit as that will be two more problems of who to swap and change every week.Hold on Paul, ……you make it so the Manager can’t win. He currently gets slagged off for picking certain players (especially Cowie), and yet still gets slated for making changes when other players become available (ie get fully fit)………… not to speak of the shite he gets for leaving others (Espinoza, Fyvie……even Holt !!!) out of the side.

For a start, I reckon that 5th isn’t the wrong end ! I work with around half a dozen (lifelong) Everton fans, and they’re absolutely over the moon with Martinez (& his “tica – taca”, tippy tappy style).
But so what? He’s no longer our Manager. He oversaw our greatest ever achievement (and for that fact alone, he will always be a hero – never a “Judas”!!! to me), but he’s gone now …………….and I see no reason to wish him ill in his future endeavours.
