We have a plan for building a successful team which obviously includes recruiting young, hungry, talented players within a sensible wage structure. It is working wonderfully well at the moment and the plan shouldn’t be altered to accommodate Jordi Gomez who struggles to meet any of the above criteria.

I was never one of the “boo boys” but neither do I think that he is good enough to replace any of our current players.

I have always been really happy with our progress but had a niggling doubt about Gary Caldwell’s managerial skills. I always thought he was the right man for the job but suspected that it would take another season to grow into the job. I thought we had been “found out” after watching the Burton game and we were too predictable when facing experienced managers.

After Saturday, I am deliriously happy to have been proved wrong. The formation and tactics were top drawer, showing that he is learning at a great rate of knots.

Perhaps the board is quiet because people looking for genuine debate have given up and left it to those who just want to argue and abuse ….. just a thought like

I love football but I try not to get involved in criticism of players, formations or tactics because there are so many variables and unknowns involved. For example if a player is played out of position, injured, or given a role he is not comfortable with then his performance is affected. Football is about opinions and I accept the fact that other fans are as likely as I am to be in the right (most of them anyway).

However: Considering the strength of our squad, the only explanation for the way recent opponents have been able to completely stifle our play is our predictability. Opposing managers appear to know our tactics better than our players do.

Burton are a very average side with little creativity but they had an excellent game-plan and were extremely well drilled. They starved our creative players of the ball and exposed the frailties of Daniels, Chow and also Gary Caldwell.

I hope Gary will watch the recording of the match over again so that he can learn from the defeat and come up with a way to deal with well-drilled spoilers.

This match was a real test of Gary’s progress – He was against a top Manager and I feel he came off second best by quite a distance.

If Unsworth doesn’t know what the Queen’s Shilling is then perhaps you don’t know the meaning of servile, sycophantic or patronising Sammy. You could be right with drivel.

If you weren’t just using those words to prove how clever you are, then show me where they apply so I can learn the errors of my ways.

All I was trying to say was that when all these problems were created, I wasn’t even born and people like me and you didn’t even have a vote. It’s time to move on.

“The British” have done much to be proud of in the past but unfortunately they have also done much to be ashamed of as well. Ireland is one such place but there are many more, throughout the world, who were exploited and sometimes enslaved.

It is often forgotten (or not known) by people such as Mr McClean that the British working classes have also suffered terribly at the hands of the ruling classes in their pursuit of wealth and power. I am not saying that we suffered nearly as much as the Irish, Africans, Indians et al but what I am saying is that the people responsible for these past outrages are long gone and we that remain have learned the lessons of history. I would like to think that the present day British regret the past and would like to move on in friendship and mutual understanding.

I said in a previous post that James McClean was only guilty of being ill-mannered but, with hindsight, it is worse than that. He is obviously so bitter that it is all consuming and he cannot move on to create a better future for his and our children. His bitterness is causing him to pick fights with people who are not his enemies but those who wish to be his friends.

James McClean is guilty of nothing more than rank bad manners. Knowing his views and his explanation for holding them, he would have gained my unreserved respect by showing his own respect to others.

To those of you wanting a Republic, all I can say is be careful what you wish for (I also said that when people were hoping we would get relegated from the Premier League).

Who would we have for President? Sepp Blatter, Len McCluskey, Griff? … come to think of it, might not be a bad idea – “GRIFF for PRESIDENT”

I’ve never met Fil but I’m sure him being on the pitch would be an improvement to what I have been watching.

On another note, I can remember an Owd Git posting all our problems were over, when all of our ‘stars’ left the club, did that change anything?
I can also remember another poster behaving like a complete bell end towards anybody that didn’t live in his cul de sac, that definitely hasn’t changed. Hopefully he’s back to being busy again.

Well I did play to a pretty high standard back in my youth, many thought I was better than Simon Farnworth but it was he who went onto better things! I have no regrets though!

What a sanctimonious and sycophantic post! Have you ever thought that we might be of a more passionate nature, not a bad trait in my eyes! You have called fans before today for rising out of their seats in your stand and getting animated, well that is a passionate fan and there is nothing wrong with it! Fans come from all manner of backgrounds but come match day they are one in my book and just because some happen to have degrees and the like and work in an office environment, they are no better than say the working class guy who works on a shop floor or on a building site! Football matches are a far far cry from the sterile atmosphere of your typical office !

Not really. But it’s clearly touched a nerve with you. Why are linking the ability to support a club properly with where you work? What utter nonsense. Again!
Of course it has touched a nerve, that is why I responded! I would also say that most office wallowers are more controlled with their emotions on match days and prefer the comfort and literacy of the football forum to air their respective views whilst your proper working class salt of the Earth types are more passionate and like to get animated and into the whole matchday experience! So it’s not really about the ability to support a club, it’s just about different people! You once slated Horc for swearing, well swearing is commonplace on the football terraces, always has been, always will be! That is why many clubs introduced family stands!
Oh my God, that is so pathetic – playing the “class card”. That is definately the last resort of a scoundrel in attempting to win an argument.

Sometimes Fil it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt (with acknowledgements to Samuel Johnson and Abraham Lincoln).
Lincoln or Twain I thought? Actually comes from the bible I believe!
Argument? This isn’t an argument, this is me having a view that I am entitled to, it is Griff who as per usual has become derogatory and insulting and so I have merely mentioned that there are different types of folk who attend football games and they all act differently, he has to understand that!
By the way, the last resort of a scoundrel attempting to win an argument is to pull someone up on their grammar and so therefore I must tell you owd fella that it is ‘Definitely’ and not ‘Definately’! Have a good evening and don’t drink too much port will you owd chap! ;)
You have definitely removed all doubt now Fil – no need to go on. As my my old science teacher would say “Quad Est Demonstrandum”.

It amazes me how some fans view the more positive and loyal supporters as lacking passion because they don’t scream, shout and spit dummies.

As people above have written, there have been far worse performances and situations in the past. Perhaps the “Lightside” have a better understanding of life in general and understand that they must make the best of good times because they know that there are the occasional bad times just around the corner.

There is no doubt Dave Whelan has made some serious errors of judgement lately (some of which we will undoubtedly never know) which have led to the rapid decline of our club from the heady days of 2013. There are so many variables involved and is not as simple as “play two up front”. He has not abandoned us however and I am confident that he will make sure that the good times return in the not too distant future.

The reason that I don’t shout and scream is because:
1. I have seen it all before.
2. Dave Whelan’s heart and wallet have always been in the right place.
3. Mistakes and errors of judgement are inescapable in the real world.
4. I prefer to suffer with a little bit of dignity (Stoicism used to be admired in my day)

PS Don’t ever compare Dave Whelan with those clowns at Blackpool!
