No, actually I fucking love to say I told you so.

Mutty ,you do know we sold Max Power to Sunderland in the first place. We knew all about his strengths and weaknesses well before you did.

Interesting observation there Phoenix, but I respectfully disagree. There are several places that have both superleague and football league clubs (Hull, Leeds, Huddersfield, Salford and Wigan), but there’s only two where more folk watch the rugby year on year than the football (Salford & Wigan). Salford have only been a league club for about 3 years and their ground holds 5,000. I looked at Horc’s post re average attendances:

Our average attendance this season 12,210.

This is our highest annual attendance for 8 years

        2023 our average was 12210 (R)
        2022 our average was 10371 (P)
        2021 (Covid)
        2020 our average was 10,592 (R)
        2019 our average was 11,663 –
        2018 our average was 9,152 (P)
        2017 our average was 11,772 (R)
        2016 our average was 9,467 (P)
        2015 our average was 12882 (R)

Excluding 2020 & 2021, when superleague was under covid restrictions for attendances, would it surprise you that in 6 of the 7 seasons listed, the average attendance was higher for the rugby?

        2022 – 12280 (12210)
        2019 – 11015 (10371)
        2018 – 11479 (11663 – the only one lower)
        2017 – 13189 (9152)
        2016 – 13636 (11772)
        2015 – 13911 (9467)
        2014 – 14101 (12282)

Mutty ,you should be asking why were there only 11,000 on for supposedly the biggest team in Rugby League instead of trying to score pathetic points. You seem to be obsessed with Wigan Athletic , I think it’s probably down to jealousy. Despite all we have been through our fan base remains strong and the support yesterday at Derby was absolutely phenomenal !

Muttty , I hope there’s someone to keep you safe and sane .. after that nailbiting ‘ victory ha ha ha ha ha last night .. in front of a packed 45.60% crowd

I’ll re-visit this post after next Saturday. Here’s hoping the worlds most watched sport will draw more than a tin-pot northern sport only played along a motorway linking two counties does.

Imagine the embarrassment if it didnt.

Mutty , we are playing in Division One it’s not a like for like comparison. We will probably get around 10,000 . Can you imagine that for a level three Rugby League match.

Legs may have gone and he may well have struggled to get into the team but he is another ‘old head ‘ that has gone . We need two or three experienced players in the squad to guide the youngsters and I am now seriously beginning to doubt that we have enough experience to get us out of this mess. Derby were fearing McClean would intimidate their players and the simple fact is he probably would have done. I am looking at the squad now and thinking who can give us that steel when things are not going to plan, when our backs are against the wall ? Hope I am wrong and I hope we can bring in replacements but this is a massive blow just as we are about to kick off the season.

The cost of ticket and travel will be more on Saturday at £20 than it would for Bolton at £34. And those are adult prices – the coffin dodgers get in cheaper – and can get to Bolton for free on the bus.

So Bolton exploiting the fact that Latics fans don’t have to travel far is acceptable ? weird kind of logic. So when we come down to your gaff at Peterborough are we to take it match tickets will be say £15 to compensate for the additional travel costs ? ..dream on !

As we all know and it’s a way of life, we all go someday as will danson
We could see problems in years to come if not sooner
Way I see this and I don’t blame him I think danson got earache from certain people to better save the latics or the rugby could be out on the street
I feel it was the stadium only that he is really interested in and was pushed with his back to the wall sort of thing
And now he has it i fear we will come a cropper further down the line
When something does happen to him
We know that the rugby can’t sustain the up keep of the stadium alone especially has their crowds are on par if not lower than ours and play less games than we do due to their league only having a small number of clubs
But concern with me is in the future when a buyer is needed to replace danson due to some sort of reason or another who ever buys the rugby might not want to buy us but will have the stadium I presume
Unless we have it in writing the stadium is in contract with the latics then that’s another story
But I think these rugby men will sort it their way and we end up in the shit
Will be harder for us to find a buyer without the stadium as our asset
Yes I am gratefull danson bought us and saved us but what was his agenda just to make sure rugby still had somewhere to play
I don’t think it was really in his heart to do it for us hope I am wrong but I never trust these rugby men when it comes to the latics and never will

Got a horrible feeling you are right Bicky. I did say at the time we need to look at the motives for Danson buying us. We will have to see how it pans out !

Correct, because they knew they wouldn’t sell the club without the stadium so they combined them. Didn’t have to as they didn’t with Euxton or the chippy. If we didn’t have Christopher Park then they’d have never sold Euxton.

Prior to that … They weren’t, they were two separate companies.

Did Latics own JJB Sports or DW Sports? No, they were two different companies owned by the same individual.

The stadium has always been an asset of the football club hence the reason Begbies insisted the two were sold together. The two companies were set up purely to facilitate the administration and upkeep of the stadium. Like I say Egg ,you are clutching at straws.

Couldn’t care either way, but that was how begbies explained it to me during admin.

Legally the football club owned nothing. The same individual owned them all however.

Makes sense business wise and allows you to move money around you may not be able to move around otherwise. As mutty says, from your left pocket to your right pocket.

I mean, Newcastle don’t own LIV golf do they, but the same people own both.

Is this the same Begbies who insisted that that club and stadium should remain together and not be split into separate assets ?

And that is what I suspect will happen again unless the council amend the lease.

It was never listed as an asset though (it is now) it was a separate entity owned by the same people that owned the football club under an umbrella company Wigan Athletic Holdings.

They owned 5 businesses, 2 of which were sold off in admin neither of which were owned or an asset of WAFC legally.

I think you are clutching at straws there Egg.

Danson will keep us within our means and spend sensibly. Fans may not like it if we start to stagnate in L1, but the financial future is more than secure.

As for the stadium, it doesn’t really matter who owns it in all honesty when the owner owns both clubs, however I suspect that it will become it’s own legal entity as it was before Whelan sold to the Chinese.

A company was set up for the maintenance and administration of the stadium for the benefit of both clubs but it has always been an asset of Wigan Athletic.

If that changes to a shared stadium the football club should be significantly compensated by the Warriors.

Rather like taking your loose change out of your left pocket and putting it in your right pocket.

I know Danson will own both clubs but they will still trade as two separate businesses. At the moment the stadium is an asset of Wigan Athletic. If he ‘gifts’ Wigan Warriors 50% ownership it is going to cause a lot of bad feeling. Rather than bring the two clubs closer together they will be further apart than ever.
