To put a positive spin on things:
1 – My expectation was to be beaten at Bristol and get a point last night
2 – We have three home games and just two away
3 – The outcome is still in our handsDunkley more than Kipre in my opinion.Fox and Kipre would be my choice of centre back partnership especially seeing as Olsson doesn’t seem up to it.
Possibly so.
Interesting though that Cook seems to prefer Dunkley to Kipre.Waits in anticipation of responses claiming Cook doesn’t know what he’s doing! (sigh)
Poor defending has been our downfall all season. At a risk of stating the obvious both Dunkley and Kipre are poor in possession and error prone. When placed under pressure they are even more likely to make errors, which is what happened after Bristol made the three substitutions on Saturday. It doesn’t matter if you have six or ten defenders on the pitch if any one of those makes an individual mistake you are likely to pay the consequences.
We weren’t looking for a summer, just trying to get through a bad winter.
Not unless he puts his boots on and turns the clock back 20 years.
Last night’s results should at least focus the mind on what is required on Saturday.
I actually thought we played well against Boro, Derby and Reading and really should have had more than 1 point from those games but it was the usual mistakes/falling apart at the seams that cost us.There is an apathy and resignation about the way we are playing at the moment and this needs to be addressed. My point is I’m not convinced Cook is capable of changing that.
We’ll see on Saturday.
As I have said I believe Cook is suffering from stress and should be placed on gardening leave and a interim manager appointed.
Division One football was certainly better than the tripe dished up this season..
In relation to your 1st statement: People keep stating we need a new manager, but never give any names. Do you have anyone in mind?
As for the tripe being dished up this season. Yes, it probably is. But we are playing in a tougher league & higher standard than league 1. But the goal this season was always to stay up – however we achieved that goal.
At some point the decision to replace the manager goes beyond a question of “who can we get in to replace him”. If the performances and results are getting demonstrably worse with no sign of improvement then the decision to make a change becomes inevitable. For all the talk of the squad being together and with the manager it is obvious confidence has gone. Cook seems unable to alter that and motivate players to perform above the dross we saw last night and in other recent games.
A loss or even an unimpressive draw on Saturday might just trigger that change. It may be that a caretaker from within the club is put in place, Anthony Barry and/or Gregor Rioch perhaps. I cannot see the club letting things stumble on like this until it’s too late to do something about it.
I don’t think we’re differing here.
In “the old days” wingers were forwards. Full-backs (including the #5) were defenders.
You would never have expected Ray Wilson, George Cohen, Gerry Byrne, Alex Parker et al to go charging upfield.Absolutely gl, and the likes of Ashley Cole who could play the wing back role superbly are few and far between. I once watched Liverpool play at Coventry and as soon as Alan Hansen went into Cov,s half Jan Molby as if by telepathy slotted in at centre half. It was beautiful to watch but these were great players who had the skill nowadays we expect bang average journeymen players to play these multi roles.
Jean Beausejour is one of the best we’ve had at the club for a long time
I fully agree but remember many times on here having to defend him from those who thought he was a “fat, lazy winger”.
That’ll be me missing it then unless the little ones swimming is cancelled
You can do both Egg. There’s the canal and the Dougie within a few yards of the ground, bring your towels and your bathing suits with you to the match!!!
You’ll need to book an appointment at a hypothermia ward or the school for tropical diseases soon afterwards though.
Not much quality on show last night from both teams. Thought we were in control of the game until their fluke of an equaliser. Oceans of space for them to put in the cross. Massey should have been busting a gut to close the player down and stop the cross. We seemed to be strolling around at times. And with a free header in front of goal you have to at least hit the target. Rank bad defending for their winner, from Evans in particular. Even then we should still have been capable of seeing the game out for at least a point but for the umpteenth time this season we didn’t. Expecting a reaction at Reading but I’d like to be convinced it will happen.
That was poor and one team got lucky.
Chubby Browns nothing to fear , your about as funny as a burst pileAnd you’re about as irritating as a burst pile.
What baffled me was why Cook waited so long to change a system that clearly wasn’t working from the kick-off. Is there some law that says you can’t make a tactical substitution until the 60th minute? Morsy and Evans playing the same roll in midfield resulted in one of them, Evans as it happens, being totally ineffectual, eventually recognised by bringing off Dunkley, putting Morsy at the back and allowing Evans more space which was an improvement.
Also interesting to note on the Warriors forum, one contributor trying to suggest it was Latics supporters that did it with the intent of stirring up trouble.
That is the rugby fans “go to” excuse whenever anything happens in the sport. Fans (in club colours) fighting at finals is always blamed on rugby fans be it Leeds, Latics, Hull etc. Baffles me every time.
The prime suspect here is the bloke who took the original photo of the damage. Anybody who goes jogging at one o’clock in the morning has to be up to no good.
