Obviously the recinding of a red card doesn’t affect the match in which the card was shown but can affect the fortunes of the team that were hard done too as they don’t suffer a suspension.

Personally, I like the way it works in Rugby League. Each and every match is reviewed from start to finish and if the referee missed something then the powers that be are able to bring the player to task and charge him. There’s nowhere to hide. Rio would have been done for kicking Torres, Rooney would have been done for elbowing McCarthy and Muamba would have been done for trying to break McCarthy in two.

Officials make mistakes but if we have the technology there to see the incidents clearly then we should use it imo.

What I don’t like about the RL way of doing things is this putting an incident “on report” business. To me that’s a cop-out for referees and gives them an excuse not to make a decision for fear of it being wrong even though they may have seen it very clearly and warrant a sending-off. Introducing that into football would cause no end of controversy and chaos with players manipulating the ruling to their own advantage.

Well I’m genuinely gobsmacked at that decision but glad for the lad given all the unnecessary hype and hysteria generated by the media.
Maybe the FA felt that way too and decided to send out a message that they decide what action should be taken and not the journos and Sky pundits.

I can understand Whelan trying to defend McManaman to lessen the impact of whatever ban is coming his way but unfortunately he isn’t the best at PR. No point saying the ref saw the incident when he’s already said he didn’t, unless Halsey has been put under pressure to say he didn’t so the PL can intervene and “justice” can be seen to be done.

On Ryan Taylor I believe his nickname whilst at Latics was Trigger due to him being thicker than 2 short planks

Not difficult to believe if I recall some of his mumbling post match interviews…[/quote]
He must be pretty thick then for him to receive such an accolade from fellow football players.

That challenge by Mirallas on Miyaichi last Saturday seems to have fallen under the media radar which I believe was also deserving of a red card, in fact in some respects more so than yesterday since there was intent there bourne out of frustration at being 3-0 down to Wigan.
The fact that we won and the focus was on poor old Everton going out of the cup seems to have made everyone overlook what a bad tackle that was, hitting him shin high, out on the touchline with the ball going out of play and causing ankle ligament damage that ended his season.

can they ban him after the match hope not

That all depends on whether the ref says he saw the incident or not & Pardew seems to be indicating that he didn’t
If Halsey views it and says the Newcastle player who seems to be blocking his view meant he didn’t see it then yes they can
In all honesty it winds up looking horrendous but it started off as an honest & genuine challenge for a ball that was there to be won. He got to the ball first, won it & it was as much the momentum of the Newcastle player as it was McManaman that caused it to end up being what it was
It is also perfectly possible for a player to have his career ended by a legitimate challenge
Or maybe it’s the sherberts I’ve had after just watching a full recording of the game (missed if dud to baby sitting duties!!) that are clouding my judgement !’
Even my double vision didn’t miss that handball though[/quote]
It must be the sherberts TL. It was a very bad challenge, maybe mis-timed if you’re looking for excuses but reckless nonetheless and I fully expect him to get a three match ban.

A charter train will be able to wait until the end of the game.

                    Kick-off 5.15
                    Full time say 7.10
                    Extra time ends say 7.40
                    Penalties end say 8.00

                    The last train back to Wigan is;
dep 19:58 Wembley Central [WMB] arr Watford Junction [WFJ] 20:28
dep 20:46 Watford Junction [WFJ] arr Wigan North Western [WGN] 23:04

You could just catch it after extra time. But it won’t carry 30,000 passengers, more like 500.

You’re not Richard Branson are you?

But they do care don’t they, otherwise why ban posters who go on there to argue the case for Wigan Athletic in the same way the likes of you are allowed to voice your opinions on this forum.

Also if I’m not mistaken,Crewe’s goalkeeper in the Boxing Day fixture was Bruce Grobelaar !!

Not too sure if it was the same match but I do remember him getting booked before the game started for marking out his goal area.

Edit: That game was at Gresty Road not Springfield Park.

My main bugbear is the back line and I would like to know what the defence coach gets paid for because whoever it is just isn’t cutting it for me !

Has anything changed ? Deja vu ! Somebody somewhere needs to put their foot down and start whipping them into shape because there are too many errors week in week out from certain players !

Maybe you’re just the man for the job. You should get yourself down there and bang on Martinez’s door. Speak for yourself Sammy, although this post is not to the liking of some i think it is well constructed. That’s what a forum is for to discuss football and where people can voice their opinions.[/quote]
Firstly James, I wasn’t speaking for anyone else other than myself and neither did my post suggest otherwise.
I’ve come to the conclusion that filmoss is a miserable, pessimistic sourpuss who enjoys telling everyone how poor a team we have. Now, I’ve never met filmoss so I might be wrong but until I do, and I’m not losing sleep over it, I’ll stick to that opinion. You mentioned his post was well constructed but most of it is a quote by, I presume, Martinez from 18 months ago, but it could be the defence coach. Not particularly well constructed there then!
I suggested to filmoss that he might be the very man to put his foot down and whip them into shape seeing as it is quite obvious to him that this is the reason for our defensive frailties this season.
People watch the team they supposedly support for 90 minutes – less if you’re filmoss – maybe every two weeks and think they know better than the manager and his staff who work with the players every day.

Notwithstanding my dislike of all things ManU, I thought that red card was harsh, and it changed the course of the game. Before Nani’s ill-timed challenge, the game was evenly balanced, but afterwards there was only ever going to be one winner.

It did spoil the game from a neutrals viewpoint, which could have gone either way.

Harsh, probably, but correct if you strictly apply the laws of game.
I wonder what Ferguson’s reaction would have been had a red card been shown for that same challenge on Nani by, say, Suarez?
