“The windass woman…Yes! for an older one”
That’s good, I thought that was just me!!!
Can I chuck into the mix Coleen Nolan, Britt Eckland, Amanda Burton, the bird that used to do the Tixylix advert & another one from an advert where some girl brings her boyfriend home to meet her mum & then has a sulk coz he say’s “your mum’s nice”
I get the impression I’ve been thinking about this way too much!!!
Maggie & Edwina were never really my cup of tea, but ol brenda certainly was
my mates still give me stick about it!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Afterall, she has worked her way up from doing the books for Kenyon”
Didn’t Kenyon settle out of court with Stephen Gage when he was accused of cooking the books?
“I have to say I was concerned yesterday, if that what next season will be like without N’Zogbia without a replacement I’m quite worried”
Fear ye not. In the latest Roberto Martinez propaganda interview with the websites, Bobby states that if N’Zogbia is sold it will be on Latics terms & ready made replacements are already in the bag
If Bobby says it, it must be true ;)
Instead of wanting your own team to lose so United don’t win the league, how about hoping that your own team win (that’s what I thought “supporting” a team was all about) & hoping United come unstuck too
That way you get the best of both worlds if it comes true
“Unfortunately our visitors that day, Middlesbrough didn’t care”
Neither, or so it seemed at the time, did many Latics players
“What about Stefan Bidstrup?”
Did he ever play in the premier league???? ;)
Actually, I think Bidstrup gets a bit of a raw deal from Latics fans around from that time. He must have only played a handful of games from what I can remember & personally I can never remember coming away from a game he played in thinking “what a crock of $h!t”
In fact one game he played in does stick in my memory (Colchester away) in which he had an absolute blinder & scored (possibly both goals but definitely at least one)I was born & raised a United fan (I had a season ticket, so did my dad & so did his dad). In 1987 I went to watch a few Latics games & caught the bug
When my dad said he’d no longer pay the increased ST prices at Old Trafford I started to watch Latics full time instead.
I’ve followed Latics home & away for 20 years now in all 4 division & if you cut me open I’d bleed blue & white.
BUT
if Latics can’t win somet, my Man United upbringing makes me want them to win it instead. In games between the 2 sides I want Latics to winI don’t have more than one club, nor do I give my heart & soul to another club as you put it but some things aren’t that easy to shake off completely. To me its no different than someone saying they hate United & want em to win nowt – Latics have no rivalry with United so where does that come from?
He did the very same “jump out with no attempt to win the ball” thing that he did at City for Hull’s 2nd goal yesterday
If Bobby does indeed pick Stojkovic next week then (IMO) it just raises more queries about Bobby’s judgement
If any premier league manager wants him to play in their midfield then they’ll deserve everything they get i.e. nowt
It can’t be any coincidence that our 2 worst seasons in this division have all come when he’s been primarily used as a midfielder, that one manager got sacked after 14 games of playing him there & that we had our best defensive record over the course of a season (I think) when he played at centre half
To be fair to Bomber Griff I remember him scoring an absolute screamer of a volley at home to Stockport once!!!
Also, the fact that during a game he can pick out one good pass & attempt a volley doesn’t really (in my book at least) make up for the many failings he has in his game at this level.
I get your general point but I’d also agree with No1’s point earlier in the thread that when Scotland and/or Gomez play we look a poorer side – or if you’re on the dark side like me an even poorer side!! ;)
In response to Yosser, I don’t think anyone is expecting Stojkovic to come in & have a blinder but he makes so many fundamental errors that i think it has little to do with his lack of match practice. Nor can I see how his inability to speak English transforms itself into a preference for attempting to punch any ball that comes close to him as opposed to catching the freaking thing
If Martinez had actually confirmed that Stojkovic would be playing on Sunday as opposed to just confirming that Kirkland wouldn’t be playing, don’t you think that Tribal football would have shown the “Stojkovic will be playing” quote as opposed to the one they have put up???
Griff – Unfortunately for Gomez he a) isn’t good enough for this level & b) doesn’t have that all-action, battling aspect to his game that would help make up for that lack of ability & which would endear him to the Latics faithful as it has with others down the years (Bomber Roberts, McCulloch etc)
“Gomez has been disappointing, I’ll give you that, but there’s a player in there trying to get out”
Griff – there’s a good player in me trying to get out too. I think at approaching 35, overweight & with knackered ankles its never going to happen but its as likely to happen as it is with Gomez!!! ;)
I know what you are trying to get at with bandwagin jumping when criticising certain players but both the guys No1 mentioned are not, & never will be, premier league quality players in a million years
Paul Scharner has had an “I am bigger than the club” attitude for quite some time now
He publicly told Hutchings to “F**k off” whilst still on the pitch & whilst receiving an instruction from him, he moaned that Steve Bruce “resented” him, we had to listen every summer whilst he told us what big clubs he was going to sign for & this season he has publicly slated the rest of the team on a couple of occasions & told the manager (via the press) where he needed to play him or else he’d be off.
Not to forget a mere couple of weeks ago he (allegedly) scraps with another player in the tunnel at half-time who refused to accept Scharner blaming him for somet & then stomps off in a huff when substituted & leaves the stadium before the end of the game. And not so much as a word of apology from him to the fans or publicly to the manager & the team.
That last one to me is unforgivable & kind of sullies the good work he has done as a centre half & getting a couple of vital goals.
That’s not to say I’d boo him, but his behaqviour a couple of weeks ago could well have been the straw that broke the camels back for alot of people & I won’t have a go at em for giving him stick these last few weeks – Scharner especially hasn’t been shy in coming forward to criticise people in the past so maybe he deserves a dose of his own medicine -
