    Well said Weststandjcl ;)

We have a new goalkeeper, a new central defensive partnership, a new full back and a new striker. It was always going to take time to get us playing as a unit.

I think we have turned things around quicker than I expected after the start we made and we are defending a lot better as a team.

We have kept two clean sheets in our two away games, which comes down to us playing 4-5-1 and not 4-3-3 and attacking on the break when we can.

When it comes off and we’re picking up points it’s great especially after our drubbings at White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge last season. I think we can go to St James’ Park next week expecting to come back with at least a point.

The problems will always be at home where we have to force the initiative as the home side.

We were more effective with two up front in the second half (even though it was against 10 men) on Saturday.

In my opinion we should play our 4-5-1 away from home but go 4-4-2 at home.

in reply to: Cheapest Season Ticket #47767

It’s clear we are nowhere near filling our stadium every week so why don’t we look at our pricing structure for juniors?

I know the Junior Stripes membership means a significant reduction, but why don’t we go further and introduce a quid a kid offer until the end of the season? It would be a bit unfair on those mums and dads who have bought season tickets for their children, but think of the benefits it would bring to the club and the team playing in a significantly fuller stadium, while trying to hook our fans of the future?

With my professional hat on, it would be great PR for the club.

in reply to: Cheapest Season Ticket #47760

The fact ticket prices were £35 in 2006 has got nothing to do with our current cr^p crowds.

We just don’t have many supporters I’m afraid. I’ve said this before but our tickets are cheaper than those down here at Swindon Town and they are playing League 1 football!

Aside from our poor fan base, there is also a lot of supporter apathy around at the moment and you can see that from the number of empty seats at grounds around the country.

To be honest who can blame fans for staying away when you see these overpaid prima donnas strolling around on the pitch and then the next day tales of how they have been shagging around are in the Sunday papers. They are hardly role models and England’s poor showing in the World Cup hardly endeared them to the football public.

But back to Latics, our crowds have hit a level (12k ish) and we won’t get bigger home support this season until we start climbing the league, scoring goals and playing winning football. I’m sure though that in a few years’ time we will start to see our fan base increasing as the next generation come through – my son being one of them.
We are a young club and it takes time to grow.

in reply to: Guillem answers my Piscu question…… #47301

If what Guillem says is true, it sounds like Piscu is being lined up as Alacaraz’s new central defensive partner.

Then……Gohouri could move to right back, Stam could move to left back……..

    The permutations are endless :o

in reply to: Our season starts now #46888

It would be a shame if Preston brought more fans to the DW than us :o

I think Wednesday is a prime example of a game where Roberto could change his rigid formation to two up front and have a real go at Preston.

Preston are on a dreadful run, their manager has been banished to the stands and they should be there for the taking.

We should drop the prima donna that is N’Zogbia and play Moses from the start and shake up that midfield trio by playing Cleverley in there to put a bit of hunger back in the team.

    My team would be:

    4-4-2
    Al Habsi
    Stam
    Boyce (at centre back)
    Alcaraz
    Figueroa
    Moses
    Thomas
    Diame
    Cleverley
    Boselli
    Di Santo

And let’s see what happens………..that team should be way too strong for Nob End

    in reply to: Boselli #46554

I think all Boselli needs is time.

We at Wigan should know by now that when you bring in Latin American imports they very rarely hit the ground running and require a “bedding in” period.

We were going to let Hugo have six months to settle in before playing him, but were forced to play him due to Heskey’s absence. How long did it take Hugo to score before he hit a few right at the end of the season? Plus it took Valencia a bit of time to develop if I remember correctly.

Boselli not only has to get used to a new league, he has to get used to new teammates and a new culture. Plus he probably needs to get used to meat and potato pies.

    He’ll come good ;)

in reply to: Piscu saga nearing an end? #46553

Depor Piscu enrolled in dorsal 25, but the player did not appear to understand that his contract had expired. The central training with Wigan, but has not yet been registered. Nebot Santiago, head of legal services of the AFE, the SER said that he believes is right Piscu “contract ended, he was free and can sign with any team. There is an LFP-AFE agreement which provides that if a player under 24 years is gone, there is a compensation for his club (Deportivo requests 1.5 million). The agreement is valid for Spain, but if you go abroad, there is no agreement. ”

Nebot goes a bit further: “Who has to decide is FIFA. The fight is whether the agreement relates to foreign clubs, but I think not. However, Depor could go to court.”

Our media clearly don’t have enough of a grasp of Spanish like me  – apart from Graham Hunter of course who has carved himself a little niche out in Espana.

I’ll be appearing on Revista La Liga next ;)

I do find it hilarious that he was linked with Liverpool a few weeks ago

in reply to: Wigan newspapers #45251

I take your point about the Lopez story, but it doesn’t stop them running a ‘mystery surrounds’ story and then getting a comment from the club saying “no comment”. Or they could run something from the club saying, ‘he’s not training with us until he’s sorted out his contract dispute’ as every man and his dog knows he’s in Wigan.

If they are ignoring the story it just goes to show they are happy to tow the line with the club, and be happy to accept reporting on old news that has appeared on the official website.

I just think it’s a shame that a story which fans are talking about and speculating about is not being covered by the local paper.

    in reply to: Lopez #45111

Okay last one tickmon! I’ve found another article which is implying that Deportivo are more likely to sort out this contract row if he moves to a club outside of Spain.

Very interesting story. It’s got the Spanish press in a tiz – a missing player whose family won’t even say where he’s gone. Might be in Brazil, Belgium or Valladollid but what’s this…..rumours are he’s in Wigan “on the orders” of Roberto Martinez. Well I never :o

    Two months without news Piscu
The center does not appear for weeks by As Pontes, where he discovers no one close to where he is

The environment of the player does not reveal his whereabouts, but says it could be registered this week in League

Where is Piscu? It is the question asked the fans Espanyol after the registration period for players finish in the top European leagues and only the dorsal Deportivo has given, although the player still has not been presented in Abegondo this season.
The As Pontes plant takes two months away. Since the days before the team officially began preseason Coruña (July 8) was brought in Abegondo with Lassa and Laure, Piscu has not come back for training for the sport. Nobody from the club is right to say where you are. Only he was quoted, like other colleagues, and their absence is not justified.
Neither has it been seen since by As Pontes, his birthplace and where his family lives. The secrecy surrounding his whereabouts is total. Nobody says anything. The only words you can hear their loved ones are: “Tranquility, everything is on the verge of being solved.”
Even went to read the proclamation of the As Pontes parties on 16 July, something we had promised months ago. Although there is always one who says that, from time to time, he was seen running around Poboado O, the field of Endesa.
Several have been the destinations where the rumor mill has put Adrian Lopez during these months. Valladolid, Belgium, even Brazil. The most reliable seems to England, where he could have been training for several weeks (it is unknown if still does) in Wigan, on the orders of Roberto Martinez also Spanish.
But silence also chairs the talks with British club-makers: “On this subject we can not say anything,” manage to comment from the English club’s headquarters.
Despite the cautious approach from the player’s environment, one message seems clear: Piscu will be entered in any league (probably English) this week. They have stated sources close to the Deportivo yet.
Although, through courts, Spain could be his destination, since it could be argued that is unemployed, because for non-team players will not close the registration period. The legal battle that could mean joining a national team seems to stave off this possibility. Not so with a foreign league, where it is understood that the fight would be lower, although Deportivo, under the agreement AFE-League, still sought

What I want to know is: who eats the jar? Also, I thought Barcelona won La Liga last year? :?

This is the latest news from the Depor coach……..

    Spanish to English translation
Lotina yesterday gave its opinion on the case Piscu. Attacked the representatives of the players (without going to quote from the youth squad, Eugenio Botas) and said did not understand “the obsession” of leaving the central Deportivo, “a league champion.”
For starters, said he did not recall having experienced a similar situation: “What for me is rather surprised Piscu. I’ve never seen a case. I do not know what happened. If again, by chance, of course is the club that has to handle the situation, not me, because, well, he also called me. I’m surprised. ”
Deportivo coach believes the center has been badly advised, “Do not know why (Piscu) has an obsession to go. I do not understand the players. Depor is crowned champions. They like going to win four dollars more …. Better one-year loan move go spinning life. I do not know why, or who eats the jar, but I think that those who advise players, a high percentage of the representatives, they do it properly. Some are wrong and ignore. I speak as a father. I have clean hands. When my advice is not to win a tough ‘spread.
    Opportunities for young people
Lotina stressed that Depor is a team you are betting by players in training: “They are in a club in recent years out of necessity or obligation is giving opportunities to young people and in that sense, it is very sweet.” And he recalled previous cases of young people marched, including the goalkeeper and defender Fabricio Barragán, who went to Valladolid Deportivo and are now in second division.
Piscu is one of 25 on the list of Sports, which does not include a new front. The tip with the coach who dreamed of never came. In any case, reiterated that the group is very satisfied with that account. “I am delighted because we have a very competitive workforce. Could not come forward, but the president tried and we have three high level front. I can not complain in any way in any line, “said the Basque coach.
Their forwards are Riki, Lassa and Adrian. She put duties: to Madrid, to repeat their numbers from last season, and two others tried to emulate. “We have a player of fifteen or twenty goals, but among all added up. What we have to try is to re-check Riki eight and Lassa and Adrian come to that figure to go adding that among all. ” “I’m sure if the team plays well in front we have players that will make goal. No doubt the talent of the forwards we have. The three have to do a good number of goals. Then there Urreta gonna make sure goals, Juan Rodríguez always makes goals, Guardado, Desmarets, Michel …», spread.
    Morel and Aranzubia
As the physical condition of staff, said, “Michel has a little problem, but in principle it is to play in Seville.” He spoke of Morel “is lagged behind the other and these two weeks without competition we will come good in that sense,” said the Paraguayan. He also referred to the state of goalkeeper Aranzubia: “I do not know if it will be for Sevilla

I would suggest that as soon as they resolve this contract issue, he is likely to become a free agent and then we will be able to sign him whenever we like
