Wage bill won’t be ten million. Top earner at club is Nick Powell on 8K per week. Rest nowhere near that.

Another enjoyable 3 points with some decent football on show. Game drifted last 20 as they had so little to offer in an attacking sense but overall a good solid performance which bodes well for the coming months. Can see why we are even money for the league with some bookies. We look a much better side at this point than the last title winning side.

Perhaps we’ve all got carried away us beating shite teams. Oldham, Bury and MK Dons have only won 3 games between them all season.

Agreed but surely the whole idea of an academy is to produce first team regulars. Still don’t see one player in our line up. Look at young Flores. Looked really promising two years ago now floundering round the bottom division on loan deals. We don’t put any trust in these guys. Similar could be young Lang. Was involved in most of goals pre season. Season starts. Loan him out. I’m not saying its an easy task integrating academy lads into the first team but there has to be the simple equation given the cost that if it’s not producing first team players year in, year out its a complete white elephant. Brentfords model of letting the top clubs nurture talent and clubs like ours pick the ones that don’t make it at 16+ up has to be the way forward.

Could you explain to me how it’s working? I’m looking at first team sheet this season and can’t see a single name on it who is homegrown? Any crackers come through in last 5 years?

For all the shit he gets he’s still a legend at our club and I for one will be rooting for him next year. Bumped into Jonesy recently in Appley Bridge and he absolutely loves the club and said he will be back as Manager once his stint with Belgium ends which he says it will after world cup.

One of the most comfortable away wins I’ve seen in years. Couple of early goals, back in third gear, controlled the game. What more can you say? We look pretty good at 6-1 for the league to me.

An Australian left back signed on loan from Leicester now. In come the loans!

Whether Powel or Bogle are good enough is immaterial. With a week to go until the season opens this should not be the sort ofnews we are hearing.

The fact that this kind of stuff is going on off pitch and players are turning to social media to publicise it really worries me about Cook’s managerial control.

Fair enough if we don’t want players who don’t want to be with us, bit the way this is bein managed is a joke. Not helped by Cook’s comments in the press about McKay or Morsy. Does make you wonder if it’s just injury keeping Grigg, etc off the field.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we start the season with half the squad being youngsters. A far cry from the what we were told a couple of months back about the core of the squad being kept together.

I’m not sure why these incidents would concern you about Cook’s management style & think we need to be careful not to take the players (or player in the case of Power) words at face value.
Power has said that he spoke with Cook in the first week of pre-season & said that if an offer came in from a Championship club then he would like to go. It would appear that neither Cook nor the club in general had a problem with that as he’s been involved in the pre-season games (prior to Notts County) & been used by the club for publicity. Same with Bogle.
The fact that both Power & Bogle have been dropped from the 1st team squads indicates to me that something has happened since then that Cook or the club, or both, are really unhappy with. In the case of Bogle it could also be that the club has accepted an offer & the buying club don’t want him to play in case he gets injured.
It’s normally pretty serious behaviour for a player to be dumped from the first team squad or a case of a player being so bad they want him to quit. I think that its highly likely that players such as Morsy, Burn, Grigg etc.. have also said that if offers come in from higher level clubs then they would be interested but they’re still involved with the first team squad so it indicates to me that their committment & effort isn’t in question but that the likes of Power have done something unacceptable in the club’s eyes.
The fact that Power has gone public in the way that he has & Bogle has issued a thinly veiled “I’m off” statement says more about them as players than it does about the club
IMO the club cannot allow the tail to wag the dog in terms of player behaviour & demands & if this has been the case then personally I back the club even if this sort of stuff isn’t particularly want I want to be hearing about 8 days before the start of the season

Personally I have never rated Power since the day he arrived & couldn’t understand why a) other supporters rated him in Lge1 & b) why he has always been getting linked with “bigger” clubs. I think his performances all last season & the fact that he was dropped in the run in showed that he isn’t as good as he thinks he is
Nothing of what is happening is anything much to do with Cook. Everything stems down from who controls the purse strings and balancing the books. At Latics like most clubs there is far too much going out compared to what goes in. Eg. just look at the size of the backroom staff clubs carry these days. Our backroom staff alone uses thousands of pounds worth of income per month.
Cookie has got rid of entire backroom team. All sport science department at club gone. Told Sharpey forget all that shite we can do it for nowt apparently. Old school!

Given how poor we were last season I’m surprised clubs are in for these two. Power looked miles off the level of the championship whilst Bogle lacks pace and nouse. Norwich game apart he looked out of his depth. Big step up from league two but good luck to him. If they think they should be playing at a higher level and have the opportunity what can we do? Just seems odd week before start of season. No point having these players that aren’t committed to club and want to be elsewhere. How can Cook build a club around that?

70 quid for a kids ticket works out at 3 quid a game. Am I missing something? Can someone show me where other clubs are charging less? Similarly. How many clubs charge less than 270?

How else can the club raise funds if fans are that tight they won’t pay to watch a club that has been brilliant value to watch over the last 10-15 years (we’ve had two shite seasons in that time granted). Can’t think of many activities you can take a family of four to for 35 quid? Even cinema isn’t far off these days. Save your 800 quid and get on WISH FM ya tight gets!

Bloody rubbish Caldwell. Took over a squad full of overpaid shite, cut budget by 50%, team took time to gel given players brought in but played some really good football towards end of season and smashed the league. Awful!
