My mate is an Everton fan and he said some fans booed them off ! He said that there was a lot of possession in their own half with not a lot to show for it ! It was like deja vu when he told me that !

Sky Sports were reporting booing during the game as even with 3 men in the box the team was opting to pass it around rather than cross. He he he.

No surprise though and it’s not like we’re the only ones.
Read the commentary and/or match reports from most of the Ch’ship games so far and you’ll find route 1 featuring throughout.

Our team is no longer the “creative” passing side created by Bob. If it was and if he was still in charge I reckon we just might have pi$$ed all over this division, like some expected us to after the opening day.

It’s interesting because there is a bloke who sits near us who repeatedly makes racist comments. He is bang out of order, but even an opinionated old get like me is struggling to decide how to deal with it.

Are you being serious Griff?? I find it very hard to believe that someone as learned as you doesn’t know how to respond to such behaviour, esp. as you say it’s bang out of order.
Tell em to shut it and if they don’t report em to the club – simple as.

Spot on JR. Anyone (fans and players) who thinks this season is a walkover need a wake up call.

Bournemouth showed us that we still suffer from the int’l break hangover and Donny showed us that we’re going to have to find a huge amount of energy to cope with a game every 3-4 days. Doesn’t bode well for when our Europa league campaign kicks in.

I would strongly disagree that they add to the excitement. In Rugby League it seems about half of the tries go to the video ref. Kinda makes cheering a try pretty pointless as you have to wait for a video board to confirm it.

What’s more exciting? Seeing the ball hitting the back of the net and going mad celebrating or mildly cheering before turning to a scoreboard for 2 minutes?

Note that I didn’t cite Rugby League – nothing can make that game more exciting ;)

the one thing iam looking forward to this season is not being slated by pundits and the media. yesterday on itv was a disgrace no one had a good word to say about us, ok we didn’t play perticularly well but talk about kissing utd’s arse! ditto in the papers today. they will have to find someone else as whipping boys.glad were out of it to be honest.

Like I said on another thread – our FA Cup heroics are already fish and chip paper to most folk.

There seems to be a lot of Everton fans waiting for him to trip up so they can lay the boot in.

Now that definitely does sound familiar.
No pity from this mon tho – he makes his bed, he sleeps in it.

So in the end it looks like most naysayers got what they wanted, with the SIX! substitions turning it into a meaningless friendly.

Performance wise who knows what that signifies? Not very much I reckon, tho I think Utd will “struggle” this season.

But it was still great to be a part of more Latics history and there’s even more to come. Something tells me this season will be special irrespective of the results.

Not sure my Liverpool supporting nephew’s will be making Wigan their second club anytime soon based on that performance, but they did support us all the way to lifting the cup, voluntarily wore my retro shirts yesterday and were disappointed with the result.

Cracking day though – great to see so many familiar faces that over the last 8 years have too often got lost in the crowd and/or been limited by which games they could afford to be part of the crowd of!

Doesn’t matter – it’s still a recognised trophy even if it is down the pecking order.
And don’t kid yourself about our greatest honour – in a few years most people won’t remember that we won the FA Cup. Some have already forgotten.

You’re not seriously suggesting winning the FA Cup isn’t our greatest honour? And if we should happen to win the Charity Shield that would be a greater honour?
No and no. Of course the FA Cup is our greatest honour. What I’m saying is that after a while nobody except us Wigan fans will care that we won it.
Do you care who else has won the FA Cup and when? I don’t.

About time the FA joined the 21st century – just a shame they’ve focused on a complete red herring, and now bought themselves at least another 5, probably 10 years before having to introduce any further tech.

How many times last season was there controversy over a goal crossing the line vs goals incorrectly allowed/disallowed for offsides, fouls, etc? The latter is where technology such as video replay is desperately needed.

The introduction of technology into offside & fouls would turn football into an absolute farce.

leave it as it is
I was kind of expecting that reaction to my post, so how about this then…

In today’s game millions of pounds, including our own club’s money, are risked due to human error and incorrectly allowed/disallowed goals. Ref’s today just aren’t as fast as the high stakes game being played by the 20 year old athletes in front of them.

So what about at least having a video replay if the ball goes in the back of the net? That’s a natural break isn’t it??
There’s plenty of time while the keeper is fishing it out, players are celebrating/complaining and making their way back to the centre circle to judge if the goal was legitimate or not (offside, handball, foul in the box, etc). And/or if a penalty is awarded.

It wouldn’t slow down play and I reckon 90% of the time the decision would be easy to check on video.

Replays haven’t made a farce out of rugby union, tennis, cricket, etc. They’ve made the game more honest, more accurate and added to the excitement.

….for this prestigious fixture…

That’s the point, isn’t it? It isn’t.
Nope, it’s just a meaningless friendly distracting the players from the league.
Rubbish. It’s a genuine trophy and another opportunity to showcase us to the world and remind all the little clubs what they can all achieve.
In all the SAF retrospectives they quote all his honours incl the 10+ C shields.

Am in Kenya and they are showing the game live – with the trailers for the game mocking the fact that Moyes has no honours. They smell an upset here and everyone I’ve been talking to loves us.

Plus you can bet that all of our new players will be itching for a chance to play – it can only be a great morale booster.

Just got to make sure we give a good account of ourselves and don’t do what we did in Cardiff.
