Let’s just hope then that playing in front of their new boss, and the Sky cameras, makes them turn on the style and get us the win.
– Clean sheet
– 5 points clear
– Just 1 point vs Hull should see us pip them to 17th on 33 points and GD (provided we don’t lose by more than 1 goal in our other games)
– Gohouri looked solid
– Scharner won’t start again
– Arsenal’s title bid is all but gone so there is a ray of light for us on Sunday
– Chelsea should have the title wrapped up before we go there, and with their players thinking about the FA and World Cups that should mean we can scrape a bonus point at the Bridge!Do you think he’ll spit his dummy and not appear for us again?
And for James to note – there was cheering at the DW tonight…. when that board was held up.
Straight down the tunnel he went. A legend in his own mind.
Yeah…Insulting our longest serving player and cheering his exit. Great. Have a bad game and latics fans hate you… No wonder people don’t want to sign and no wonder players want to leave.
Longest serving doesn’t = quality. And I’m sure the cheering wasn’t just referring to today’s game. Plus 15,000 odd fans can’t be wrong.
That said, it felt like we lost a our momentum after he went off.Apparently had a spat with McCarthy in the tunnel at half time, with Kirky and Bramble pulling them apart.
Wigan Casino Royale ;)
Relegation.I beleive our future is with bobby and if we go down so be it but, hows this for a thought.
Our first game in the prem was chelsea, (as the new champions) at home and on TV.
5 years later and our last game in the prem will be Chelsea away and they will win the prem league by beating us and send us down.
perfect symmetry and i bet its the game they choose to show live.
I had the same thought about Chelsea bookending our premiership years…but then realised that even if we do get relegated that doesn’t mean we’ll never be a premiership side again!
On balance a pretty disappointing result for us I think.
Yes they might be drained for Wednesday and only looking towards the final…but more likely they’ll be brimming with confidence. Plus, what better way to prep for the FA Cup final than 5 no pressure premiership games that you can treat as training sessions?
I’m way less confident now about us getting a result against them as I was before today.Fair play to Pompey tho…brilliant achievement considering their situation and always good to see twitchy face get beat.
oh ffs. look, i was pi55ed off after today, the goals we conceded would not have even been made by schoolboys, but we were told at the start of this season that it was all about survival & if we can do that, the aim was to push on from next season.
i disagree with martinez being labelled as clueless. yes, he might be tactically naive at times, but he is still learning at premiership level. next season is the time to judge, & if we are in a similar position again next season – then act.
everyone is entitled to their opinions, but why can’t we just get behind the team. there are 5 big games coming up & the lads need our support. :D
Tell the Manager an the Players that. our fans are behind them we have all season its not been a easy ride us supporters tha knows?you heard the saying thats wearing thin tha knows?
Not sure some of the players really give a damn…just gone 2-1 down and Gomez, in plain sight of our fans, is smiling and having a joke.
Didn’t Ozzie transform into Dave from Skem / Vat69?
What about mitty and Dylan?
Since when were Cattermole, Palacios and Valencia the finished article when they joined us? Wigan turned Palacios and Valencia into the high value players they are today…and in contrast just look how far Cattermole has progressed since jumping ship…
As for Emile – whilst without doubt a great player and a a talisman for us – he’s been past his best since his 3rd season at Liverpool!!No games are played on Easter Sunday as i recall.
Couldn’t agree more. 10 years of team building destroyed in 1 season, by an incompetent, stubborn, man. There are better managers in the Wigan Amateur League. Whelan must bear some of the blame. He appointed him, and should have admited he had made a wrong call, as he did when he appointed Hutchins, and sacked him at Christmas. I have never been as dissapointed after watching League football for over 50 years.Give over. If that’s your argument then why didn’t Whelan sack Jewel in his first ever season or in our second prem season when we lost 9 games on the trot?
And as for 10 years of team building – hah! Apart perhaps from a decent pre season summer under Hutchings and maybe 2 half seasons under Bruce we’ve done no team building in he last 5 years…more the opposite…thanks to an “incompetent, stubborn, man” called Dave Whelan.
I’m not saying Martinez hasn’t got it wrong…I said in pre season that I was concerned about his appointment. I think he has blindly followed his principles and part of that is down to the fact that he hasn’t got anyone of note or experience to challenge him.
He’s also been over ambitious by trying to play a progressive formation and style with players who aren’t yet capable, but without any plan B…again cos he has nobody to provide any challenge or different, experienced thinking.Hmmm…I’ll reserve judgement until after Saturday, as we’ve been in this position before and failed to get back to back victories.
If we lose, like we did after Villa and Chelsea then I fear this will have been another freak result and we’ll be back at square one.
If we draw we’ll have to wait until we’ve played Villa and Burnley to be sure.
If we win then I’ll be quietly confident about us surviving for a 6th straight season.
As a fence sitter I have to say that whilst loudmouth’s style of questioning aligns with his username, the nature of his questions are valid.
I’m very keen to understand why Roberto thought it wise as an unproven top flight manager to be supported by coaching staff who have less management experience and success than himself.
I can understand him needing players (e.g Gomez, Scotland) who support him the dressing room, but surely a wise old prem head amongst his coaching staff wouldn’t have gone amiss?
I’d also like to understand why he’s afraid to change his style of play just to suit his principles. It’s clear that not all of our players are suited to a passing game – in the interests of survival shouldn’t he play to their strengths rather than stick to principes that aren’t working?
Thirdly, can he explain his comments that losing by 1 or 4 goals doesn’t matter. It’s clear that GD will play a part at the end of the season…did his comments affect the players into thinking it didn’t matter if they shipped 3-4 more after going 1 or 2 nil down? Did he not look back at some of the previous seasons of our and others survival through GD and goals scored?
To all latics fans sod to the watching game in pub and get down to the d.w and back the lads against bolton, Have a few beers a good shout what a better way to get over valentines day rubbish :D
Noblots ground was empty today.
Probably cos they’re saving their pennies and voices for Wednesday. They’ll pack out their end and will no doubt outsing us with their one song.
