Whilst i agree he has every right not to do it (as are his beliefs and rights as a human) i have to completely agree that the fact he deliberately turned his back and showed his disgust for it was a step too far. Everybody knows his stance on it and knows he wouldn’t have crossed his arm over his chest singing boisterously but he has started playing on it now, Letting everybody know every time it’s time to do it again. The show of petulance was (well petulant) but i agree. He should have just stood in the line and bowed his head. The Americans wouldn’t have had a clue what was going on but he made that much of a scene everybody couldn’t fail to notice.
Are you sitting down Yosser? I agree 100% with that. And I’m a MacLean fan.
Plenty haven’t done much in their time at Wigan, generally because they didn’t get played due to a succession of managers being inept.
Do you really believe that a succession of managers working day-in day-out have chosen not to pick players because they cannot see what you obviously can?
Yes I genuinely think he does.
Yes I do, backed up by the fact that none of these players played enough, none of those managers are here (sacked) and we are now in division one.
Mark my words those 2 will do well and Rangers will have nothing but good things to say about them. Oh and before anyone says Scottish football is cack and 3rd division standard, that’s what division we’re in and they would have made a big difference this year. We’ve made 1 good signing and made several bad sales.
Yet the coaching and management staff that are here now are happy to let them go and I think they’ve probably noticed that we’re now in League 1. Thye’ve also seen these players – and their attitide – day in day out on the training ground for quite a while now. I’ll take their judgement over yours.
Neither have done too much in their time at Wigan, but if wages were not an issue we would probably keep them as they both would certainley do okay in this league.Hopefully the transfer money and the saving on wages will allow Caldwell to get in replacements of a decent standard.
Correct! Waghorn, in particular, was starting to become the new Roger Espinoza – nowhere near as good as poeple seemed to think he was. Or himself, by all accounts.
Clean sheets on the washing line………….. ‘blowin’ in the wind’.
That’s a starter for ten if ever there was one.
What is it with women and clean sheets? They always seem to make a point of how nice it is getting into bed with clean sheets, or is it just my Mrs?
She’s never mentioned it to me
Big dave been bolton today he a doctor.so called on wish fm. Get him has our team doc.
Please tell me you typed that with your feet.
Cheers SW. I thought it was only me.
Made perfect sense to me, worryingly. That’s why I’ve stopped coming on here. It’s bad for my intellect
I wouldn’t blame him or any of the others for not wanting to play for us after their shameful neglect but at the same time we need him and others of that ilk to stay rather than bringing in journeymen footballers and non leaguers. At the end of the day it comes down to us, who hold their contracts, to say it’s here where’ll you’ll be playing your football, for the greater good of this club.
Yes, because that’s exactly how football/footballers operate.
”With the club reporting that season card sales for this season have been very healthy”https://www.eticketing.co.uk/wiganathletic/details/event.aspx?itemref=3020
There’s a lot of green dots on the availability chart.
Why don’t they come out and say how many have been sold rather than an ambiguous statement like this. There was a rumour going round that less than 1000 had been sold by the early bird deadline last month.
Similarly, someone on here claimed over 8000 had been sold, but if that were the case, I doubt this £199 price guarantee would have been marketed.

I heard that around 5000 have been sold against a figure of around 7000 that were sold last season. Not bad, really.
Getting a bit embarrassing this post now. Bobby has only ever spoken positivley about the latics and with our current situation its now becoming a bit of a joke.
Ian, I see that you are new to this board; maybe never watched the Latics or know enough about our beloved Roberto’s demeanour. Yes Roberto only speaks about Wigan in a positive manner; but then he speaks about everything in a positive manner. Example; we lose to Spurs 8-1 and his first comment is that we can take positives from the game. It was like this, week in & week out; to the point it became a tedious bunch of spin. He must have the most rose tinted spectacles of all time, so much so that he was continually blind to the reality of a situation ( just ask the Everton fans ).
Don’t get us wrong; we worship Roberto as a Latics Legend, but his positive blinkered stubborn approach eventually took us down. I personally thought that he would be the perfect Chaiman & Ambassador for our Club. Great player, nice fella but misguided as a football coach & Manager. He may have lead us to victory in some great games, but then had his worst game of all against Swansea when it mattered the most. Myself & my footballing mates have spent a fortune watching the Latics since the NPrem days; so we are entitled to our say and our opinion. Keep following the Latics and you might eventually understand.
And this year’s award for most arrogant and condescending post, goes to…
Deepdale – 9.89 miles.
DW Stadium – 9.34 miles, so although I may have a PR post code, The DW is more local to me by over half a mile.
I won’t however be walking there next season.
Touched a nerve, has he? ;)
Not at all Griff, as a Wigan ‘red’ you should know things like that don’t bother us football fans.
PS Chorley are my local side anyway, not Nob End. There are a few Latics fans who have jumped ship tp Victory Park from all accounts.
I see what you did there. Doesn’t make it any less boring.
Houses or sit on it for a few years after a few attempts to change the plans to housing. Then as allways Chorley B.C. will give in to the big rich man because the site will have become an eyesore and expensive houses will be even more expensive and the original investment will be turned into a massive profit. Seems strange that there was money available for this project but not for Jordan Rhodes etc when an investment in a proven striker two years ago could have given us a quick return to the Premier and therefore the Charnock Site being developed. To the football club the investment in Charnock Richard as been about as usefull as the investment in Riera Delort Holt and co. Charnock Richard as not seen much football yet and us as fans didn’t exactly see much football out of those three either.
What nonsense.
The training ground has been in the planning since Martinez came back to the club. It was the dangling carrot that kept him here, and Whelan had even gone to the trouble of visiting other Premier League clubs’ training grounds to see how they’d done it.
It’s obvious the club needs one to attract players and develop its own academy players. It’s a long term investment – much more so than selling to a developer for a couple of million.
The problem is though, the club didn’t plan for 2 relegations, and the yearly income has dropped from £40 million-ish, to – once the parachute payments have gone – f’ck all.
The training ground will happen if we get promoted, they just need to allocate what little money they have elsewhere at the moment. If we don’t get promoted in the next few seasons, yes, then it may end up being sold on.
As for Jordan Rhodes: Blackburn were never going to sell to one of their rivals, and came out in the media to say as much. The guide-price for Charnock Richard GC when it went on sale was around £600k (not exactly a bank-breaking amount) and it had already been bought before Owen Coyle was given the job and the Jordan Rhodes rumour appeared.
And as for the proven goalscorer – that’s what we thought we were getting when we signed Grant Holt!
Are you still banging your head against the wall with this lot, Jonny? Fair play to you, you’re a more patient mon than me

Forget to renew, lad?
Ah, nostalgia, eh? You can’t beat a good willy-waving contest
Got my season ticket weeks ago but cowie is the worst ever player to play for wigan athletic before anyone says what about etc etc from years ago bur at least they had fight even if they was shite but cowie in my opinion has nothing truly awful
Don’t talk utter shite. He wasn’t even the worst in last season’s squad.
No wonder most people with any intelligence ever bothers with this site anymore.
He was one of the worst though and eventually the penny dropped with the equally shite manager and he was duly dropped! Might do ok in the 3rd Division but I wouldn’t hold my breath!
In your (highly debateable) opinion, of course ;)
As Johnny has stated, it could be circumstantial but he was pretty poor and I am not the only one who has stated that!
Maybe you’re all wrong. Maybe you’re not.
Your the one who is talking shite griff cowie can not pass head tackle or shoot yes he runs about a lot but let’s be honest you can get 50 gobshites from the soccer dome to do thatThat’s a great appraisal of a player’s ability, can’t compete with that analysis.
Well done, you
