I don’t think Cattermole necessarily wanted away, I think he was kind of forced out when Whelan saw pound signs in his eyes. He didn’t give that many free kicks btw.
To be hoest anything over the £4.5 million we paid for Hugo would be good business.
Can’t believe how much stick you give Hugo!!!
In a team that has struggled, playing out of position he is still going to get into double figures for the season. Tell me another left winger in the Premiership who can boast that return????? And in a better team playing with better players he will score for fun.
So lets sell him cause he’s that bad we will have no problem replacing him another Jason Scotland or even Moreno???? If he leaves he will score more goals next year than those two put together.
I think there’s a certain sense of looking at Caldwell’s challenge through Latics tinted specs.if I’m honest I winced when he put the challenge in & half expected the red to come out but regardless of that no media pundit I’ve heard since the challenge was made has said that he shouldn’t have been sent off – and that can’t all be anti-Latics bias
Sky said at the time it was a very harsh sending off. If that is a straight red how long before we play touch football that was nothing more than a good strong tackle from a committed player.

I have heard people say it! I have also heard people saying that it was very harsh.
It wasn’t a sending off even in the most tinted of specs and even if those specs were bias against wigan.
If we appeal…It gets rescinded…end of. I guarantee it.
Martinez has said he will appeal.
No chance mate we will probably get relegated now for having the cheek to question a top referee
I think we should appeal, I also think we will win the appeal and get it rescinded, as I still believe now that it was neither a foul nor a red card. I think it’s a fair tackle and they get made week in week out in football matches, the only thing Caldwell did was go in hard, and that is not against the rules. What did Atwell wnat him to do..Let Tevez run past him?Why waste our time with an apeal? Over the course of a season we are on the receiving end of some shoite descisions and it never evens itself up.
James we are little Wigan a small fly in the Premier League ointment and we are about as welcome as a dose of clap!!!!
Impressed by a good performance by Jason Scotland. McCarthy looking class act.Not at all sure about Melchiot instead of Boyce though.
But a fighting performance. When ever have we gone into 4 minutes of injury time at 0-0 and thought “we’re going to win this”?
Priceless result not a great performance but one game when the result was everything.
Oh and thanks Pompey we needed that!!!
What you say makes no sense at all. If I was a manager tracking a player from a different club and his performances were poor and he wasn’t trying/playing well I would soon end my interest in him as it would surely mean he isn’t good enough, right? So, if other clubs keeping tabs on our players means they will just give up playing for us and not put in a shift then i’m sorry but they’ll end up missing out on the move they wanted because what manager (in the right mind) would sign a player who isn’t playing well?
N’Zogbia has been our best player for most of the season but has looked quite poor in our last 2 games (Bolton and Villa) and is now ‘injured’. If he doesn’t want to be here then sell him, simple.
McCarthy is still a kid, he’s shown his potential and Roberto has worked wonders with him, slowly introducing him into the team. We have to try out best to keep this lad.
Hugo isn’t worth what Villa are rumoured to be paying so that’s good business.
Figueroa has just signed a new contract so, looks like he’ll be staying but if not, I don’t rate him all that highly anyway so it wouldn’t be a major loss in my opinion.
Kirkland, for me is rubbish! If we get £5m from Sunderland for him i’ll drive him and help him move house!
Scharner is out of contract in the summer, if he chooses to go fair play, he’s done well here and has seen his contract out and I for one would wish him well but hope he stays, good squad player.
Sorry Alex but why are you not bothered about players being sold? Last year up to the January sales we should have walked into Europe then after we hardly won a game. Have you not learned that we sell players to other clubs for a big profit then we replace them with poorer (in most cases) cheaper options. We will get found out if not this season eventually and all your apathy towards player sales will come back and bite you. If all the players are sold that you mentioned and we pull in say 30 million how much do you think the manager will get to spend?
I for one don’t want to be watchin Swansea cast off’s Athletic next year thank you very much. Lets try and keep our players as most of them owe Wigan a huge debt of gratitude for the privilleged life style they now enjoy.
Possibly.Martinez’ long term aim is to obviously build a squad capable of playing football the way that he likes; right now, we’re nowhere near that. We have the basis of a squad, but it is very young and inexperienced. On paper, our starting XI is decent, and if the league was played out on paper then we’d probably be a comfortable mid-table side, but after our strongest eleven, we have very little. Slowly we are progressing and developing the squad with the acquisition of very good players in each window and Martinez is, little by little, building a squad of players capable of playing to his ethos. But right now, we have very little experience and team selection is limited.
It’s a risky game, obviously, and if we go down this season then it will have proven completely futile, but if we stay up we put ourselves in a position to strengthen the squad again – not just in terms of quality, but depth too – and hopefully, or rather theoretically, we’d be in a position to push on a bit.
Managers need time to create a team fit to play football suited to their style, and Martinez has faith in his system and methods, and is obviously willing to persist with his beliefs despite getting tonked by Bolton and potentially being in a relegation battle, but he does this with the long-term in mind. If we stay up, his patience will be rewarded. If he abandoned his tactical ideology as soon as we go one down, then we’d never get anywhere.
He’s had two transfer windows, and been unable to shift a lot of dross that Bruce brought in during those (which will have severely hindered bringing players in), so I’ll refrain from waving the ‘Martinez Out’ banners just yet, and give the man some time. (I’d never actually wave them, because I’m not a moron, lol).
That’s my tuppence worth, anyway.
Why do people keep going on about Steve Bruce and his bad signings? Some may not have worked but he signed some real quality Palacios, Cattermole, Bramble to name just a few.
Anyway your defending the man who signed Gomez,Scotland, Ayma
i know phil you can not make it up can you?. are these people who come out with these comments care in the community or did they have a big cup of magic mushroom tea before the game?… we lose on saturday then the backlash will be relentless trust me!If we loose on Saturday which I don’t think we will then our manager and team deserve a backlash cause the Dingles are absolute shoite!!!!!
…we will be 2-0 up and all will be forgotten. ;)
And if that is the case, there will still be posters on this board thinking up reasons why it was a bad performance and why Martinez should still be sacked anyway.[/quot
Not true I’m afraid!!!
I would hazard a guess that all the fans who post on this sight would love Bob to be a success and us be in the top ten our team playing great football and going to Noblot and winning. But to all of the above we aren’t and after Saturday apart from the odd blip (Liverpool) we are a poorer team now than when Bob took over.
And that is why people are not happy and I’m afraid the stick he is getting is well deserved.
Who are you calling a? I’ve defended Martinez and still will. Why does that make me a?
We are loosing 4-0 and our Spanish super manager takes of Hugo and brings on Hendry Thomas a defensive midfielder!!!!!!! Presumably for damage limitation what the hell kind of a desition is that.
People paid good money today and we were awful and bringing Gomez and Scotland on makes us worse these 2 are absolute rubbish and just prove our manager is clueless because if he had any idea they would never get a game.
That really doesn’t answer my question. Why am i a pri ck?
I’m the one thats supporting our manager and team during this difficult time. I’m the one thats being positive about our chances of survival. I’m still fully confident that Martinez will keep us up and kick on next year.
In contrast, your the one not supporting the manager, constantly berating the team and just general overeacting after every defeat.
If that makes me the pri ck then i really need to reconsider my outlook on life.
Sorry M P MCMURPHY you have your wires crossed if you read my post I never even mention you. I certainly never called you a pri ck.
The only person I have a gripe with is our manager as you can see from my post.
14 March 2010 at 12:44 am in reply to: Reebok is 6 miles from Wigan…So why wernt you lot there? #26348To watch a pathetic shambles parading as Wigan Athletic……?I dont know what bugs me most,
The teams apathy…………or…………..the `plastic` fans apathy!
I paid good money today and I feel robbed, we were absolute shoite may be you should take that into consideration before you critisise people for not going as today is the norm this season.

It’s time to go for that Spaniard to go.
I mean only beating the 5 times European champions 1-0Wigan Athletic should be scoring at least 14 goals against teams like this.
The 4 5 1 system does not work as I’m a personal friend of Steven Bruce and he has assured me of this.
It’s time to bring back the Jeweller.
Quality post bet you have had that written for months just waiting for a Wigan win.
It was a great result well deserved and we should enjoy it but 1 win does not make our season. Kn*b!!!!!
…… Jabba the Hut being choked out in star wars!http://www.premierleague.com/page/Home/0,,12306,00.html
Just put your cursor over the story in the headlines section.
I’m glad Bob’s not worried, that makes me feel a whole lot better
Hats off to Bob for doing the interview, especially how things are going at the moment. Unfortunately after having read the interview I can’t share his positive out look.
I want to believe we are heading in the right direction that Gomes and Scotland will come good that we are building to push onto the top 8 but I just don’t see it. As the season has gone on we have got worse look at our points tally we don’t look like scoring and can’t defend which is a bad mix.
Bob was a legend as a player but know matter how many fans forums he does and what a nice man he is and how great his fantasies are he is just not up to the job. If we give him another 3 transfer windows we will be well and truly stuffed,if not this season he will take us down with his poor signings, tactics and awful substitutions
And know matter where we are I will still be a season ticket holder but I would prefer it to be in the Premier League.
