Watched the game on TV as I live in Surrey. Thought we were poor for the first 70 minutes, couldn’t seem to string passes together, the off the ball positioning was terrible but all in all, we looked like a team who has had very little game time. Our defence isn’t good. I have no idea what Kienan was doing for the first goal, he should have been tight, instead, got pulled out of position with ease. The second goal, how can Sammon, who was knocked to the floor by Ramis get up, run past Ramis and score (through a lucky deflection of his arm)? Boycey has been a great servant, but it’s time for him to be on the bench and Perch, he has been in more positions than an illustration in a kama sutra book! Where are the left backs that we have?

On the positive side, the last 15 minutes were more like it. I thought Forshaw has the ability and will get better. I thought Kvist was decent and looked strong on the ball. How Riera is being kept out I don’t know, as is Waghorn…both looked strong when they came on…and backs up the argument of why would Rosler change the side from Birmingham. McLean was looking sharp which is good considering he hasn’t played this season.

I like Rosler and think he will turn this around but he should have realised after the 1st 45 minutes how Ipswich were setup, very strong in midfield and defence and hitting us on the break – Typical strong Mick Macarthy team. He should have switched to a more pressing 3-5-2 using Delort, Riera with Mclean and Waghorn supporting from the wing areas and Forshaw supporting through the middle, instead he stuck with 4-3-2-1 (because it wasn’t 4-3-3) which Ipswich contained comfortably. I think Rosler has changed too much too quickly and now is forcing game time for new players at the cost of losing matches.

…mind you, if we kept the new players out of the side, we would only be moaning about how they are not included (Just like we did under Martinez!)

Do you think that Barrow will adopt the style of Martinez or do you think he will continue from the last game…it will be interesting to see…

apparently, he is still being paid by Chelsea (about £100k a week) so I don’t think RDM would want to start a new job because that will be the end of his payments…

I would say our best 11 at the moment are:

Nicholls
Barnett rogne shotton
Boyce Beausejour
McArthur Espinoza/Gomez
McManaman McClean
Powell

Well, lets look at that. We lost 5 players that had some meaning to the team for the FA Cup/Prem:

Kone
Di Santo
Alcaraz – when fit
Figgs
Mccarthy
Robles

in summary, we brought it

Fortune & Holt
Barnett
Shotton
Rogne
Powell
Carson

So which one of the players we brought into the club is significantly worse than ones which left?

I am not saying we have a much better team now but its not much worse and I didn’t expect to be 13 points behind the top 3 in the championship going into December, playing 4 games more than anyone else in the league should not cause a good team to lose 13 points.

I don’t think it is the players at all. The tactics by this clown are indefensible. How can you change a team so much that used to have about 50 to 60% possession and string more than 2 passes together to a team that has 37% possession at home and hoof the ball? There is no game plan, no plan to keep the ball, players being played out of position, players who should be playing not playing….do I need to go on?

When Bob first got the job, it was plain to see what he was trying to achieve…and it was drab at times, but you could see a plan and what he was trying to build…can you honestly say that about Coyle?

Having worked with many Bolton fans, I thought it was sour grapes when Coyle was appointed and Bolton fans were telling me about Coyle being a poor manager due to a lack of plan, players out of position, no real tactic….Hard to prove them wrong at the moment isn’t it.

I cant see what good it will be keeping Coyle. We will finish the season in the bottom half and then watch the players leave the club.

We have played 4 games more than other people in our league….apart from Burnley and Leicester who we have played 3 more games than because of their involvement in the league cup..

…so poor excuse really

Holloway?? what would that achieve?

At best, we would probably get us in the playoffs…he certainly wouldn’t help us survive in the prem.

The best option I felt we had went to Fulham as Jol’s number 2, then Poyet….If the rumours are to be true with Mike Phelan (and I don’t personally believe they are) then that could be a good option but quite a risk.

Whelan cocked up with this appointment and should have gone with someone with a similar philosophy to Bob…not a boot it all day philosophy.

I think the month of December is going to be critical to who we sign in the transfer window. I don’t think Whelan will want to pay large or any amounts of cash having watched the games we have. I think when coyle arrived, Whelan said the plan was to be in the prem for 2 years…may be this was a business plan, steady the ship 1st year, launch the offensive the following year…maybe without coyle?? (Hopefully  )

I would have Martinez back in a flash….I don’t get this Bob bashing going on here…arguably one of the best managers in our history. The downheartedness I feel at the moment with our current management and the way we play is unbelievable….if only we kept Ramis, Caldwell and Alcaraz fit all season, it would have been a different storey maybe…

Roll on the next 6 months then we can remove the incumbent management and push for promotion back to the Prem.

[quite poetic for a Wednesday morning B) ]

Although I agree, I wouldn’t want Redknapp near our club, he is right saying we have a stronger and deeper squad. We have a team that bar injuries to Caldwell, Ramis and other defenders, would have stayed up last season and a team that won the FA cup….now we have a stronger team, cant string passes together, hoof it around and are mid table fodder…its deeply shocking and if anyone can defend that, well, I will be amazed!

Should never have appointed Coyle as Manager (Director of football maybe ;) ), I will always support my team through thick and thin…but I can’t say the same about the Manager.

I just want him to leave/resign/get the sack…..terrible appointment in the first place and those who know me also know I said this when he was appointed.

I cannot get my head around why Whelan chose him knowing that his style of play would be in contrast to Martinez and everything that Martinez setup…

I was a massive Martinez fan because I could see what he was trying to do on the little funds he had…it was frustrating at times, but can anyone say it has been less frustrating this season so far? If anyone thought Martinez didn’t have a clue, I can point you in the direction of a number of publications regarding football strategy and statistics, with one of the books stating that Martinez is a thought leader when it comes to football strategy…maybe an earlier post on here, suggesting Whelan’s reluctance to back Martinez financially, is correct.

I for one will be made up if Coyle goes…but it will have to happen before the year end.

wurriors are no bruce springesteen nor a club well known around the globe like we are
leigh stadium would be quite sufficient for such a small event, or even one of the other big named rugby clubs
infact why dont you stick to some sport from down south where you belong and stick to shandy drinking you southern tart ;)

You would be hard-pushed to find another club competition in the UK this weekend that attracts a higher attendance than the one that will be at Old Trafford tonight.

It may not be full, but one things for sure – It will certainly be more than 4 times, and possibly more than 5 times the piss-poor crowd that bothered to show up at the DW on Thursday. Now that was an embarrassment – almost as bad as the 12181 that showed up for your first ever league cup semi final.

God help your crowds if you get through the group and folk actually have to pay to go! ;)
You’re right Mutty. The 12,000 home fans who turned up last Thursday night is woeful in comparison to the approx 12,000 (but more than likely less) Wiganers who turned up for the Semi Final of your entire season’s efforts against Leeds a couple of weeks ago.

All things aside, it was a great win for Wigan RL and from the Pampas of Argentina to the jungles of Burma, I’m sure they are still talking about what a great send off it was for Pat Richards.
I thought she died ages ago….I thought at the time Eastenders wouldn’t be the same again….
