is there any way when you log in to reply to a post to get the site not to redirect back to the forum index page?
Someone at the club told me that it wouldn’t be out before July 10th & from the tone of the e-mail not any time around then, so I’m assuming the back end of July/start of August as a release date
Its a difficult one to comment or pass judgement on this
I don’t know about that. You’ve not done too badly![/quote]
Maybe “comment” was the wrong choice of word!!!! ;)
What I guess I was trying to say was that I can understand why he would leave but by the same token I can see plenty of reasons why supporters should expect a bit of loyalty back from him
So with that in mind if he does go I’ll neither slag him off (there’s a first time for everything!!!) nor send him on his way with my best wishes – its just one of those thingsIn light of the “I told you so” posts that arrived on here following the Stoke game I may be tempted to do likewise if he does go just to do a bit of stirring   ;)
It is a pity we are looking. If Martinez would have used Sinclair to his potential i would be a different story. He for me is the player he has got wrong the most. I think i speak for most people there.I’d have to disagree there – a bit at least
Bobby used him as a winger despite what he says about our formation being flexible from 4-5-1 to 4-3-3, most of the time its 4-5-1. On the chances he was given there he wasn’t good enough & I doubt he ever will be in that position at this level
As a striker he may well turn out to be a world beater, but never in a million years will he be the type of striker who would be successful as the lone frontman. So in that respect as Bobby seems pretty rigid in how his team will play I think the club was right not to sign him permanently – if Latics played with 2 or 3 up front then possibly I’d agree with you although next season will probably prove one way or the other on thatIts a difficult one to comment or pass judgement on this – even as a darksider
In the cold light of day, its obvious that when he speaks to Villa that they will offer him a far bigger wage packet & transfer budget than he will ever get at Latics. There’s not many of us who, if we are honest with ourselves, would turn that down so I’m not sure that we can expect Bobby to either
On the other hand, I’m also pretty certain that Bobby knows that no other chairman and fans (I know he gets regular stick on here but its never developed into open revolt on the terraces) would have stuck by him for 2 years through some of the results, performances & barren runs that he’s had whilst at Latics & that if he has anything even close to that in the first 6 months at Villa he will be out on his ear – albeit with a big, fat, pay off from Mr Lerner
In that respect it boils down to £ signs or job securityWhen it comes to passing judgement on any decision Bobby might make to go that’s also a difficult one
I’ve already said that even as someone who bleeds blue & white I would find it difficult to turn down Villa in favour of Latics if that was my job, so i can understand if he leaves
However, on the flip side he has received unstinting backing from Whelan when any other club chairman would have turfed him out long ago so part of me thinks that loyalty deserves some reward on Bobby’s by staying.
Likewise Bobby has spoken of nothing but his love for Latics since arriving, how he’s one of us etc…. And more recently he’s spoken about only allowing players to leave for clubs in European competitions. Villa don’t fall into that category, with the players likely to leave their this summer I don’t think they will next season either & Mr lerner seems to have tightened the purse strings since allowing O’Neill to splurge out – in that respect to leave at the first offer he gets would seem like somewhat of a slap in the face & more than a tad hypocritical. he does however have previous for that.My other worry is that no matter what I might think of Bobby’s managerial abilities, if he does stay I think the majority of our more sellable players will stay. If he goes i think they’ll all look to go too & then the club really will be up poo creak without a paddle
I’ve no idea whether the story is true or not or whether Bobby would want to go if they did want him but hasn’t he turned them down once before to stay with Latics??
I seem to remember that at the end of his original (playing) deal with Latics that he turned down the offer of a new contract as he said the club wanted him to take a pay cut (the club said it wasn’t a pay cut but that his new deal didn’t include a signing on fee).
Anyway one of the clubs who offered him a deal was Athletic Bilbao & it was reported that that was where he was going only for him to turn up at Latics for pre-season training & sign a new deal. John Deehan said somet along the lines of “I thought he’d left & gone to Athletic Bilbao” which probably says alot about his managementWhether Bobby ever regretted turning them down I don’t know but I’m pretty sure that Athletic Bilbao almost won the league that year.
isn’t it Bilbao who only sign players from the basque region? coz he fits that criteria – not sure Mark Hughes does though!!Im not sure i would be held to ransom by a skint Bolton. 3 million sounds about right but any more and they are getting carried away. Petr Cech was 7 and Pepe Reina 6 million. How can they suggest their third choice keeper (almost aged 30) who has made 10 first team appearances in six years is worth 5 million?I really hope we get him but i wouldnt have the p*** taken out of us by that lot!
Absolutely spot on
If the Bolton directors seriously think he’s worth that much then they should be putting pressure on Coyle to play him coz, as good as Jussi jaskiwotsit is, they wouldn’t get £5mill for their first choice keeper at the moment
Alternatively if its Coyle setting the asking price then you have to question the sanity of anyone who keeps a keeper of that value as 3rd choice – I doubt any club in the top flight would expect to receive that price for their 3rd choice keeperThe £3mill should be a take it or leave it offer & I don’t think any of his other alleged suitors would go much higher than that either
Britain’s got tallent and x-factor are just commercial machines, aimed at providing low level entertainment, at best a Kareoke and pub tallent nights , so that the stupid masses can buy into it and make the producers and owners money.Congratulation on them for making money on this, but how stupid are the people who like it.
If somebody likes a programme (& the acts it pushes into the limelight) then who is anybody else to tell them that they are stupid for doing so??
Lets crucify him before he,s even signed eh? for crying out loud. We really know how to roll out the welcome mat. Can we actually sign him before we ruin him please?Bleeding hell – are people not allowed to express opinions now??
Correct me if I’m wrong but the original poster asked if anyone knew anything about him. some people have merely replied to that & they get jumped on as “writing him off” or “crucifying him”
If he signs he’ll be welcomed & given a chance to prove himself. In the meantime if someone asks for an opinion in him then people should be free to give that opinion regardless of whether its good or badThe only time I’ve ever seen the bloke play a full game was the play off final last week & to be honest he didn’t impress me all that much – certainly if viewed in the sense of whether he’d be good enough for the top flight.
His touch & control were poor at times & he didn’t seem overly blessed with pace. On top of that he looked like a poacher as opposed to someone capable of playing up front on his todd as he’s liable to have to do if he joins Latics
Looked like a good lower league/championship striker but not someone who seems to have that extra bit about him to be a success in the top flight
How many times have people uttered the words “I’m not going again/I’m not renewing my season ticket” at the end of the season only to go out & get one in the end??
I suspect the amount who don’t actually renew or who cutback will be far lower than the amount who have said so to that survey
Take United for example – 22% of season ticket holders saying they won’t renew?? Ai reet as soon as it dawns on them that when they give it up they’re unlikely to be able to get it back for some time they’ll renew alrightIn all seriousness I can’t see Fulham being interested in Bobby
If they are however & they dangle a big wedge of cash in Bobby’s face with the promise of transfer funds he can only dream of at Latics it would be interesting to see if he turned it down
For all his talk of loyalty & how much he loves Latics (which i don’t doubt) at the end of the day its his career & if he views an opportunity as a chance to better himself then I believe he’d go for it – as would IAston Villa “get gates of 65,000 every week” according to Burridge :liar: :liar: :liar: :liar: :liar:
Did i just hear right on ssn,one of fifa puppets said England would have got my vote if they would have given the falklands back………….FFSApparently it was Julio Grondona (Vice president of FIFA & an Argentinian) who said that when asked why he hadn’t voted for England’s world cup bid
He is also the same person who many years ago made headlines in the press:“FIFA executive committee member Julio Grondona, an Argentinian, makes disparaging remarks about Jews’ ability to referee football games. He comments, “I do not believe a Jew can ever be a referee at that level [the Argentinian first division] because it’s hard work and, you know, Jews don’t like hard work.” Grondona will not lose his position at FIFA, but will later become senior vice president of the organization. I disagree with you over Alcaraz, I think he is a class act.His problem has been ‘trusting’ Caldwell and sometimes Figs to do their jobs.
Sunderland was a prime example, after Caldwell had been turned inside out for two of the previous goals he was trying to cover his captain. Its been happening all season.
With all due respects that is a load of codswallop – he’s a ball watcher (or at least that’s the phrase I think we used to use at school).
Taking the Sunderland example that I gave, even if he thought that Caldwell wasn’t up to covering the guy going down the left wing, its rank bad judgement to think that the situation will be improved by leaving the man you’re supposed to be covering to go & “help out” thereby leaving someone completely unmarked & bearing down on goalI think its a lack of nous that’s making him do it as opposed to “not trusting” other players to do their job but even on the off chance that it is the latter he needs to worry about putting his own house in order before worrying about how other players do their job.
Some of his passing out from the back has been woeful at times but its somewhat harsh to criticise him for that coz he wasn’t only one who struggled with that
