That’s because out players are too quick to catch..
I can’t really recall any obvious decisions going against us though?
I can recall plenty of failed attempts to win a pen by Jacobs…

I don’t get to too many games these days but at the last game i went to we had a nailed on one turned down against Portsmouth the other week for handball in the 1st half from a Powell free kick.
There was also an appeal from Jacobs in the same half when someone breathed near him

On the flip side, Pompey were awarded a penalty when their mon realised he’d lost the ball & deliberately stuck his leg out to catch Burn when he’d gone past him

On sale from weds only got 1,106 I’m sure that is 200 less than 2 years ago

It would appear that you are right:

What we have now seems to be the new allocation for visiting teams at Fleetwood although curiously it does tend to differ very slightly for different teams – Blackburn got 1,125 tickets

Lincoln took 30,000 fans yesterday. We couldn’t fill our end for the FA Cup final
Wigan people are pathetic when it comes to supporting our sports teams

That’s a load of rubbish. We took great support to Wembley and I don’t recall there being any big gaps. I thought our support was fantastic.

I’ve watched Watsons goal probably a thousand times, and I’ve never noticed empty seats. Just a mass of support.
There were some empty seats near us (top tier right above where the cup was lifted) – not loads but quite a few
If I remember rightly as well, the initial allocation of tickets was 25k to each club. A week or so before the final it was announced that Latics allocation was now 21k or 19k (I forget which) and the balance went to City – that was one of the reasons why the Latics support did not go round the part of the stadium where Maloney took “THE” corner but stopped before it.

That said, what was to be expected? – Latics had a home crowd average (not stadium average) that season of somewhere approaching 14k & needed plenty of day trippers to sell our allocation. You’re not going to get that many part timers or one off “supporters” going when the ticket prices are as extortionate as they were. Why would anyone with just a passing interest in Latics be prepared to pay over 100 quid for a ticket like I had to???

I predict that Steve Evans Peterborough side will play a part in deciding the Champions. They’re good at snatching draws, I can see them being awkward to play for these two.

And Shrewsbury going to Blackpool, I can see the Seasiders doing something there as well.

Peterborough had 2 games sent off on Saturday though so they may be effected by suspension over the next few games

in reply to: Scousers #168002

Didn’t watch the game as its between the 2 teams I probably detest above all others but I have seen the goals this morning & they were 3 really poor goals to give away.

City’s defence looked all over the show for the 1st, as well as it was struck their keeper was really slow & half-hearted in reacting to the second & rank bad defending followed by more poor reactions from the keeper to the 3rd.

As for the “pre-match” – I can see the Mouser’s coach & supporters getting some of the same treatment for the return game

in reply to: Ray Wilkins #168001

As someone who was born & raised a Man U supporter (season ticket & everything up till 89) Ray Wilkins was the first player who ever stood out to me as a kid as being head & shoulders above everyone else on the pitch – and that was at a time when United had Bryan Robson and the under-rated (& often forgotten) Remi Moses in midfield too.

He was absolute class and a player who would probably have played for far longer at far bigger clubs than he did had he been playing today when English football has come more in line with the continental style – It’s no coincidence that he’s thought of so fondly at AC Milan

in reply to: Portsmouth early thoughts…. #168000

Donny, grigg has himself stated that he prefers to play as a lone striker as opposed to being in a partnership.

Nonsense. He would be better in a 4-4-2 with a big lump of a centre forward who can win headers as the ball is pumped forward from the keeper and the centre backs.
I remember it well super stu, when the likes of bobby campbell (rip) would knock it down for the likes of paul jewell to score. Likewise, when the lazy simon howarth would do the same for you or sir andy liddell. Perhaps your right. Bring it back.
Technically we didn’t play 4-4-2 when Haworth, Liddell & Barlow were playing for us. It was a front 3 with Liddell given a licence to roam

Just saying ;)

in reply to: Portsmouth early thoughts…. #167958

We didn’t get into any rhythm, poor passing at times & very slow build up. Fair to say that was one of our poorer performances, but some credit has to go to Portsmouth. Kenny did his homework on us & they chased us down from the front. We’ve not had a team do that to us for a while but when it happens we struggle to cope with it.

When all said and done Portsmouth were lucky to win, and can someone tell me what our goal was disallowed for?

No idea why that goal was disallowed but defending for their second was atrocious.
I haven’t seen it again on the telly but in the ground I assumed it was for offside
Sure I remember seeing the linesman’s flag up but I could be mistaken

Over 100 arrested in Holland for a friendly.
Wonder if they were targeted by the Dutch police or just plain scum.

It will have been a fixture of both I can assure you.
I was at the Euros in Belgium & Holland when it kicked off and know of a friend in one particular bar that the police had chased some lads in. They arrested & deported every single English person in that bar & let every other nationality stay in untouched – it happens on a regular basis so no I don’t believe that every single person out of that 100 will have been causing trouble
In that same tournament (I forget who England had played) but the English ans were herded on to trains back to Brussels (didn’t matter where you were staying) & the police then stopped the train & made everyone depart at the station that was in the Turkish immigrant area of Brussels (There’d been trouble from the Turkey supporters in that tournament & the aggro & deaths when Leeds & Arsenal had played Turkish sides in Europe was fresh in the memory). The police then disappeared & left us all to walk back to the centre of Brussels.
It was the last time I ever watched England abroad

The English people who cause bother are utter idiots but don’t kid yourselves that they get treated well in return – you can argue its a chicken & the egg situation but the way whole swathes of innocent people are treated at times is a disgrace

in reply to: Players contracts #167756

Question is if we were to get promoted how many of this season’s squad would be good enough for The Championship?
Possibly Grigg Jacobs and Byrne, Defo Burn,Morsy,Powell. That’s about it really and that’s just being realistic.

Individually possibly but as a team all of them. We must not make the same mistake we made last time bringing in so many new players.
That wasn’t the reason why we got relegated last season. The squad that got promoted from Lge1 wasn’t good enough for the Championship
The problem was that Caldwell jettisoned some of the wrong players (eg Morsy), sidelined others (eg Jaaskelainen) & the new guys (eg Bogdan) were shite.
On top of that after conceding a few early doors he changed his tactics & became inflexible in his approach to games
Joyce being appointed just compounded the problem.

For me we mustn’t get sentimental about things & if players aren’t good enough for that level they should be let go – take Jacobs as an example. He’s had numerous chances at Championship level (including with us) & not produced the goods consistently enough in any of them. There’s also been times this season where he has suffered big dips in form (like he did last time out in Lge1). He’ll be 27 early next season and if he was gonna show he was good enough for that level he would have done so by now.
A similar (though weaker) argument could be made against Grigg.
And in reality how many of those flogged, released or loaned out have turned out to be really successful where they’ve wound up at?? Probably Morsy at Barnsley & the lad up at Dundee (now Celtic)

The club shouldn’t look at things sentimentally & make choices based on facts and not emotion

in reply to: Graham Alexandra #167746

It looks an odd decision to an outsider looking in but they’ve only won 1 in 13 – judging on how people react on here when Latics haven’t won for a couple of games there’d be a revolution in Wigan if we had the same record & didn’t get rid of the manager

in reply to: Players contracts #167745

I think I’d let Kellett go – didn;t really impress me (when fit) at Lge 1 level so if we go up I don’t think he’s good enough for the Championship

McDonald has had a setback but played last week in that Cup Final v Mansfield so I’m guessing he’s not far off. he also signed a new deal so there’s your like for like with Perkins

Reece James I like & I think we look better attacking down the left with him in that we do with Elder. I’d prefer to keep James & let Elder go back

Fulton looks alright from the brief bits I’ve seen of him but looks a squad player at this level if everyone’s fit so not sure I’d want him at a higher level (anyone brought in should be better than what is already here)

I’d move heaven & earth to get Walton back here next season

in reply to: BURY #167677
Sold over 1,500 holds 2,000 let’s get it sold out

I won’t be there (Farnham v Knaphill for me in a relegation battle) but which end is the away stand at these days as they’ve changed it about almost as many times as Brentford have.
Is it at the end where that small block of flats overlooks the pitch or down t’other end?

If it’s down t’other end half those 2000 seats are below pitch level & you can see naff all

in reply to: Jairzinho. #167674

As far as I can remember, yes he did – & yes it was all part of that supposed link up between his academy & Latics that never came to fruition

in reply to: Can you copywrite a number #167450

It was clearly done innocently enough & by someone with absolutely no interest in football which most people seem to have accepted.

Back to the OP though, it isn’t just the fact that the t-shirt had the number 96 on it – the fact that it also says “Karma” & “What Goes Around Comes Around” both of which were thrown at the Scousers in the aftermath of Hillsborough (coming so soon as it did after Heysel) just increases the coincidence along with the colour, the number & the style of the top
