At the end of the day Hugo does not deserve his place in the team, both on recent form and form throughout the season. We got the goal but then every goal kick we had was won by an Everton defender which put them straight on the front foot. I don’t think Martinez does himself any favours playing Hugo on his own up there, it doesn’t work, never has doen and never will but if ever there was a case for NOT having all 11 players in the box, that was it today.
As for what’s left of the season, Blackpool have two horrific games to come and I can only hope they take a tonking which could see us move above them on GD anyway. I’d back us to get at least 2 points from the last two games but don’t see us getting much next week, today was the big chance and we threw it away AGAIN through our own stupidity.
The Martinez apologists are the only people who seem to see positives in relegation. Parachute payments are not what we should be building the future of the club on. This group of players with some additions next season on Premier League payments should be able to challenge for fourth bottom and like it or lump it that is currently the height of our ambitions. We’ve suffered through some horrendous signings in the last two years from both Bruce and Martinez which have put us in the position we’re in so it’s not just a ‘blame Bob for everything’ mentality. Should we go down we will lose our better players and I certainly don’t think we’ll be clawing in anywhere near £5M for Hugo, £4M for Figueroa etc as we won’t be in a position to demand that kind of fee.
Bothered about attendances
Love the old ‘getting used to the English game’ line when it’s trotted out! There’s nothing physical and threatening about passing a ball 5 yards without any pressure and failing to do so on a consistent basis. He’s not good enough.
What a game that was! I was only about 12 sat in the stand at the side but Lance Key missed a back pass and Steve Whitehall (I think) missed 2 penalties! Sure Wayne Biggins scored but it was a long time ago!
The rugby were sent an extra allocation of about 2,000 but is it worth getting frothy-mouthed over?? Honestly, if you lot claim to hate them as much as you do, ignore them and get on with your lives please
There’s 2 games going on this Saturday and I’m going to both but I do wonder about the actual home attendance at the DW this week, each to their own though as long as I’m there I’m not too fussed.
This thread is almost fulsome proof of the chip-on-the-shoulder, bitter, grudge-ridden inhabitants that exist in the town. Just get on with supporting either or both sides. I’ve always wondered if people take more satisfaction from the other failing than their own side being successful.
It’s not that he was fantastic, just that we have been so used to the ridiculously slow, patient build-up that to see someone pick the ball up in the centre of the field and drive at defences has surprised most of the crowd! For too long we’ve only had N’Zogbia doing this but from wide positions where he is easy to nullify. Drive at a defence from the middle of the park and you should have options either side of you and another to just go on your own and shoot. That type of player behind the front man is what we’ve been crying out for.
I was embarrassed that the Latics don’t do anything like that. Anything that gives the club some sort of identity in the town should be encouraged and again shows why the rugby will continue to consolidate their crowds in the town.
I would like to see how the East stand would react if Kevin Davies ran and jumped onto the advertising boards after scoring a last minute winner!
With retorts like that you want chucking off the board.
Is this thread for real?
On the Gomez front, as the second half started, within 52 seconds he had given the ball away and a free kick. He needs sending to play 5-a-side in the soccerdome over the summer to get some lumps kicked out of him and toughened up.
N’Zogbia needs to think about learning to travel with a ball before he can fit into a top 4 side. You can have all the skill in the world to get a defender off balance but if the next touch is 20 yards out of your feet then it’s no good.
Im sure the same could have been said about Valencia and he hasn’t looked back  [/quote]
Roll your eyes all you want, Charles hasn’t got the right attitude to make a fist of it. Too much petulence.
