Griff, we made arsenal look good. I lost count of the times where we had nice possession of the ball but then failed to make it out of our half because of misplaced passes – we were then constantly on the back foot. We lost the game before the game started particularly when we started with the Chuckle Brothers in the centre of our defence.

We started the second half slightly better but only because Di Santo gave us more of a presence up front – Rodders didn’t have a kick in the first half. Di Santo was getting very frustrated though when our midfield failed to spot the ball over the top when he had made a good run. He and Al Habsi were the only two positives to take from today – oh and McCarthy on the bench! Why didn’t McArthur start by the way?

Despite missing my train back and seeing us roll over and allowing Arsenal to tickle our bellies, the worst part of the day was being patronised by smug Arsenal fans on the way home – ‘you don’t travel well do you, I knew your away support was bad..’ one harped on.

    Smug cockney tw~ts!

By the way Charlie didn’t look interested. I think I was sat in front of his brother with a load of other Frenchies. He’ll be off in the next couple of days.

It ranked alongside our worst ever performances on the road.

We were scared of them right from the first whistle.

Absolute pants afternoon and to top it all off, I missed my train so had to fork out for a new ticket!

You are right about the loan quota Bath we have two loans, so unless Cleverley goes back to Manure or we sign Ali, we won’t be getting anyone else in on loan.

This is the stumbling block and is possibly why we appear to be dithering at the moment in the transfer window. If we have to pay a little bit more to get Ali, let’s pay it so we can shift someone in on loan who might nick us a goal or two.

Ali has been for me one of our few shining lights so far this season and is one of the major reasons why after our two early season horror shows we are not shipping goals like we did last season.

Our club will always have to sell players to balance the books, but why would we do it now when we are fighting for our lives.

It hardly makes sense to get rid of our players now when we still have a chance of securing our big pot of Premier League money for next season.

When we sold Palacios and Heskey we had just had a fantastic first half of the season and were well on the road to safety, plus we were offered money that was too good to turn down at the time.

No club is going to offer the true market value for our stars as you very rarely get any big business done in January. It will all be loans with views to permanent deals in the summer. If we hang on to Nnnnnn’Zogbia (as Stuart Hall calls him) then we will probably get a few million quid less for him in the summer, but if he helps keep us up, how much more money is that worth to us? Same goes for Hugo.

I don’t think we’ll do any other business apart from getting someone in on loan to replace Boselli as we have good midfielders coming back in McCarthy and Moses and another back-up front man in Di Santo. We are also well covered in defence.

However if someone came in for Figueroa………. :D

I agree, but he obviously is not happy. I looked on his Twitter page and I don’t think he was a fan of the climate before Christmas

Anyway, looks like his move will go through according to this latest report from Italy………

Genoa – Get the tones of a true story of the attacker, the South American telenovela Mauro Boselli landed yesterday in Genoa to join the Gryphon. In the evening he had come to halt by the medical staff due to a muscular problem that was supposed to hold the former Wigan for at least three weeks, but after his meeting this afternoon with Fabrizio Preziosi, Ballardini and the prosecutor in the case seems resolved. Most likely in the afternoon, the player will sign the contract until June with Genoa as soon as possible and we will make available to the coach. For a striker who comes, or so, there is one that starts today and Rudolf has left the ladies of Pegli moved to Bari in this case the formula is that the loan back to the dry base at the end season.

I love all our players

    Who? Boselli or Martinez?

in reply to: Rodders and Figs #55321

The Birmingham Mail’s Villa reporter says the Figgy and Rodders link is pure nonsense

in reply to: Rodders and Figs #55279

I think if we do get anyone in it will be on loan with a view to a permanent signing in the summer, much like Boselli’s situation at Genoa.

We will more than likely end up with someome like Moreno – highly rated young kid who hasn’t quite hit the big time but has potential.

I mentioned on another post that Marco Ruben who we were going to sign this time last year is now playing regularly for Villareal and has scored a few goals so I’m always optimistic that one day we will find that little gem who is going to get us all excited :o

in reply to: Boselli gone on loan for now…… #55268

Nice to see you giving Martinez some praise LMB, but I think this move has more to do with his agent and the player himself than the manager.

It’s his agent who has been shouting his mouth off in the press in Italy and trying to spark some interest from Bari and Genoa.

To be fair to him, he has done a good job as we get shot of a player who doesn’t want to be here and get almost all our money back if he scores a few goals between now and the end of the season.

The question now is whether we sign someone permanently (as it’s not like we have received our Boselli transfer money back) or do we get someone else in on loan to replace him which then means we have to sign Al Habsi permanently or get rid of Cleverley.

    Interesting dilemma!

in reply to: Nigeria in for Moses #55267

I would be very surprised. Lars Lagerback enquired about him before the World Cup and was told he wasn’t interested in Nigeria.

in reply to: Rodders and Figs #55266

We should get shut of Figgy. He has become a liability and his body language as Barmby stole in off the back of him to score Hull’s first on Saturday said it all.

He has gone backwards. I say get what money we can for him.

As for Hugo, we can’t contemplate selling him until the summer. I would rate him around £10m on his own. People may say he doesn’t score a shed load of goals, but I think in the latest Opta stats he has had as many shots on goal as Drogba but the only difference is, he is playing in a relegation-threatened team where he is having to shoot from long range because we don’t make enough decent chances for him.

I can understand selling one of our worst performers to our relegation rivals, which is what Villa are this season, but not the player who is our top scorer.

in reply to: Boselli gone on loan for now…… #55244

Depends what kind of player he buys. If he were to get someone like a Tuncay who can play in a few positions, it will work.

The problem is that we bought a predator who relies on having a shed load of chances in the box. In our formation our lone striker needs to be an all-rounder.

I can’t see him dropping Hugo as our main front man and Di Santo is his back-up so I would think he would look for a player who is comfortable playing behind a front man or supporting on either wing. I think to that end, Tuncay would be perfect.

in reply to: New striker…….. #55091

Very good point, but IMO he has to if he wants us to stay up this season. We need more of a goal threat,

I think he’ll give him one more chance to get us that striker who is capable of scoring……

in reply to: Boselli’s loan (which may lead to a sale) hots up #55089

Genoa want to pair Boselli up with one of his former Boca Junior teammates Rodrigo Palacio.

They hope to conclude a swift deal as they have injury problems, so this one could be done quickly!
